mapping is an art. and i am an artist.

peek these hot digs on tourmaline.

beautiful, right? i'd call it just about done. please contain your awe.

so this is usually how i start maps. kind of how digital artists use a sketch layer before really getting into their picture, i just scribble out a general area and shape for how i want the map to be.

it is not usually quite this messy though. this one is a bit different-- i'm working at the most zoomed-out level possible and each screen there is still just a fragment of the map over all. because of how big it is, it's a lot harder for me to get a sense of its total shape, let alone where in the map i'm working on right now.

so, adapting a new technique, i marked out the screen edge borders with purple (it is just my empty/background color) and then marked out edges every 75 pixels or so down and across the map, so i can at least sort of see where my zones are. then i also mapped out where the cuts in the map are going to be, and general outlines for cliff/other obstacle/area shapes will be.

so as of now i should have enough to go on to start getting down and dirty with the details of it... and make it actually look like a real map!

however, sprites have been formatted, finally, which means we've started on the canon shinies! together we did about 41/108 yesterday, but i doubt that pace we'll hold. we'll see how long the rest take!
