In the midst of their fall the newly branded Emmortals, Angel and Demon alike, discovered that, be it by benevolence or schadenfreude, they were not quite like the humans they had grown accustomed to watching over. Many of them were afforded abilities which often proved necessary to survive in their newly corrupted worlds. Thus a division of races was created.
Angels come in several breeds:
- Seracs are the common form of Angels. In order to survive in Heaven, a world where the only natural source of heat is the light of the stars above, they have been given an affinity to ice and water.
- Archangels are a rare type, identifiable by the halos that normal Seracs lack. They are believed to be the closest thing still left to the old immortal Angels from before the fall. Although they lack the ability to manipulate the elements of the fallen world, they are looked upon with great honour, and are believed to excel at anything they do. In return for this ability they have much shorter lifespans than most. At the time of their Ascension, they are said to return to Diespiter.
- Fallen Angels are not a natural race, but those banished by a Grand Emmisary become this. Their wings are stained with black, and they are shackled to a dark halo as a reminder of their crime.
Likewise, Demons have similar groups:
- Cinders are the name for the common Demon. Where Seracs manipulate water and ice, Demons control Fire and Brimstone. In Hell, a world barren of any natural water source, their bodies have adapted to resist the striking heat and thirst.
- Cubari, a term for succubi and incubi together, are a recessive breed of Demon. They are known to be invariably attractive and charming, and have a reputation for feeding off of the emotions of others.
Finally, the outliers:
- Nephilim are the children of Angels and Demons each. They are a hated existence, welcome neither in Heaven nor Hell. It is believed that Diespiter Xemself despises them so much that Xe afflicts many of them with the Nephilim's Curse, a condition not unlike vitiligo.
- The Sins are not quite a race in and of themselves, so much as they are a power that manifests in others. There must always be 7 in the world at all times. When a Sin dies, the power moves to its closest blood relative, or somewhere entiely if there are none. How each sin manifests can vary between individuals.
