cuz we on that desert now, whattup

so anyway events = done which means it is finally time for me to focus 100% on mapping. everything i've done so far was just sort of jumping the gun early so it hasn't been a focus. now it is.

unfortunately as well all know Tourmaline is a Very Big Map and those who have attended my streams know i have taken a magnum 3" 12-gauge shotgun and blasted myself in the foot with these dunes because they are approximately as tedious as all getup. so it's gonna take a while.

my current plan is to probably just take a day next week, drop on an audiobook, and slam-jam it all out in one 12+ hour session.
maybe a couple days if i'm weak.

for the first few years, i pretty much exclusively worked on this game in class. i could usually get a majority of my uni classes that would let me take notes on my laptop, and by "take notes on my laptop" i mean pretend to take notes on my laptop while actually just working on the game through every lecture.

in retrospect, i realize that was a pretty perfect set-up. language and visual processing are handled by two very different parts of the brain, so it's more than practical to do something like that while listening to the instructor. lectures kept me interested through mapping, and mapping kept me awake through lectures. i think, also having done that for so long trained me to work that way. i've noticed that with visual work like mapping and spriting, i'm a lot more focused on it when i have some words to listen to on the side.

hence the audiobook (or alternatively: lectures on javascript, japanese grammar, digital art, etc). it's such a great use of time, 10/10 highly recommend. so although it'll take forever, i'm looking forward to recreating this approach.

as an aside, although mapping is pretty simple to stream, i've kind of gotten the feeling that just doing the dunes and cliffs of tourmaline for the like, fifth time, is getting pretty old. you guys can tell me if you feel otherwise, but as it is now i might drop off on streams until i get done with the desert (or else we might have some for DPTG). we'll see.
