Unused Badge Designs (Patreon)

The above image is the badges that are used in the game. You've probably seen most of them before, or all, if you're a naughty self-spoilering person who's looked in the game files
(don't worry, I would be too)

But this isn't all the badges that were made for Reborn. These are actually the "Season 2" badges.  You can see them in a different format here , which our trainer-card generator automatically pulled them from. 

The icons in the top left were sundry trainer card things-- Beat the league, Retry Token, One-Up Token, Entered X-League. The icons in the bottom row were the X-League badges. They're literally just the main badge in front of the X- League Symbol... but it did look fancier. 

In order from left to right, the badge owners and their names:

...Most of those are the same in-game, but for those who aren't leaders in the game, such as Anna, Bennett, Laura, Sigmund and Arc both, their respective counterparts took over their badge designs. 

Here's the Season 1 badges.

You can see the tokens are there again, but this time oddly spaced. That's because this was the era where we were making trainer cards by hand. I spent many hours copy pasting these icons from this file.

From left to right again:

You'll notice that for the six leaders that carried over from Season 1 to 2 (decided via popularity contest at the time), their badges didn't change that much. They were updated to Season 2's silver-border style, and some of them changed their coloring a bit (Titania's became darker, Hardy's greyer to be more stone like, Luna's uses a prettier black).

Everything else was lolreplaced. Looking at these now, I don't miss any of them-- except perhaps the Mythic Badge. I like it's design better than the Treasure Badge by far, but Treasure suits Saphira much better.

An oddity: So we went with the Season 2 badge designs in game, meaning in-game leaders like Julia who weren't in Season 2 got the Season 2 badge design. However, they still give it out under their own proper badge name. So Julia gives you the "Volt Badge" but it's actually the Pulse Badge that Sigmund and later Arclight gave out. The same is true for Florinia (gives out Blossom; calls it Canopy) and Shelly (gives Monarch, calls it Cocoon). In the case of the Blossom and Monarch badges, you can see their color themes even match Laura/Bennett a lot better than they match Florinia/Shelly.

A couple exceptions: Radomus calls Anna's Millennium Badge by it's proper name because Mind Badge was a stupid-ass name and therefore I have elected to ignore it. Further, Aya calls her Blight Badge the Venom Badge. This was actually an oversight I noticed while writing this post. She will properly announce her badge as the Blight Badge from E17 on.

For the rest of the Season 1 badges, may they rest in awkward pieces.

I'm planning to make another post soon about the inspirations behind some of the choices for the badge designs themselves. Many of them are obvious-- wow, Volt Badge, lighting bolts, so original-- but others aren't so much. Are there any badges you're specifically curious to know why they look the way they do?
