In light of the new band name. The Jizziming Dongs. They should rename the tour van to the Jizziiming Dongs Van. Or JD Vance. Maybe I should just couch the idea.

Gary's decent into madness in real time is fucking awesome

Matt Thorpe

You boys scratch the itch like nobody else. Yes, the rollercoaster is hurtling towards the end of the track but at least the people in the car in front are these guys. Chollops have become as essential as Dollops. Your work and presence is necessary.

Seth Miller

We are no longer the dollheads. We've transcended to a higher form... The Jizzuming Dongheads.

Democrats are just “Moth that lite” with maga

I have friends who live in Gary. They were out for over 2 weeks. She works for the IRS & they tried hard to make her telework in Illinois. But hey new executive order for bulk electrical equipment came out so we are saved!! /s

I just want to buy physical media. Movies and comic books. I hate knowing that instead I’m gonna have to join the posse and round up the billionaires to execute them. I just want a simple life

As a software developer I have to chime in and say that the AI clip shows a misunderstanding of LLMs and how they are built and deployed and what they are good for. There is already tons of AI in drones to do lots of evil shit. LLMs, a specific type of AI which is good at chatting and powers things like ChatGPT, are good for some things and quite good at finding novel solutions to contrived problems, like rats jumping the walls of a maze. The problem is not the models going insane. We have companies doing insane shit in a huge grift to keep their bubble going. For the drone strike, LLMs are insanely inefficient they create two mistakes while trying to fix one, like a hydra. You have to build a harness for specific purposes to make them anything close to reliable. If you hooked up an LLM to a drone it would hit the tower before it hit a person. And like I said, they already have the AI for that. It’s just not in the news.

The boys need to have Ed Zitron on to discuss the AI portion of this episode.

The MAGA idiots would buy tickets for the titanic if he was selling. Also- I’m having this weird premonition about NOLA. It started about 3 months ago. I kept telling my guy, “we HAVE to go there. I’ve never been, I NEED to go.” Which is weird because there’s lots of places I’ve never been. Then weird(well, “normal” now) things start happening. It’s not like it pops up on my feeds, it’s that people around me and those I pay attention to are mentioning it in ways I think is strange. Could be “frequency illusion” or confirmation bias adjacent- but then Nepal happened. And now LA has made it illegal to sleep outside. And I just have this nagging feeling…

P.A.21

Why would it blow up? Im just curious- thank you for your knowledge sharing.

Fuck that was a dark one

I know, I was born to grow vegetables and pretty flowers and instead I’m gonna have to get my HVAC license, get hired by one of these data centers and then let my ~lack of attention to details~ do the rest; allegedly.

Greg C

Lake Ontario My entire family are right wing MAGA religious freaks. They think the name change is hilarious. They were laughing so hard about it my mom could barely breathe. This is the circus for them.

Sophie

We're not getting rid of the homeless. They're like poor people. Politicians use those groups to scare white Americans in suburbia and in rural areas to continually vote against their interests. For this to work they need the homeless to remain homeless.

I just love it when Gareth loses his mind about stuff

The other day we got the first ever documented example of a drone killing people with 0 human input in the decisioning. Russia basically dropped it into the general area let it pilot itself and pick a target on its own. It gets around the radar jamming using AI madness instead of fiber optic cables. (First confirmed, definitely not the first ever.)

Jose Luis Rios

Trump is about the boomerest of the boomers lol.

Also the people slavering at the idea of making an AI god are insane for thinking it’ll bear any resemblance to us. Think for even 5 seconds about what it means that we have nervous systems & endocrine systems. We feel physically. We have emotions. You cannot BE a human or a sentient being as WE conceive of them without those things. Sentience is surely possible in a machine. But being encased in a living organism is SO fundamental to our conception of sentience that the idea a fully sentient machine would resemble us at all is deranged, even if it was created using us as training data.

Karl Duffield

fascinating. is it like the "own the libs" amusement to them? Or is it like real, patriotic, team america fuck yeah?

Adam Erickson

There are two fundamental reasons, both to do with the way LLMs are built: 1) they are probability machines, not deterministic like every other machine you use in everyday life. When you turn the steering wheel left, the car goes left. That’s deterministic. Probabilistic machines do that almost all the time. But almost is a chance. It’s a very small chance, but it’s there. The AI in Teslas has this problem too but there is tons and tons of human written code to deal with the edge cases like “there is an old lady in the middle of the street so hit the brakes”. It takes a ton a ton of time and testing which is what Tesla is doing and it’s kinda pretty ok most of the time. But that’s not LLMs. That’s highly specialized, efficient car driving AI software. 2) the LLM is incredibly inefficient and that inefficiency leads to compounding mistakes. An LLM does tasks by adding content to a big long transcript of the conversation. Every single time an LLM takes another step, it writes down what it did so far in a big scroll and appends “now do this next step like this” At the risk of doing something I hate, I’ll anthropomorphize the AI a bit. It’s as if the LLM is a new clone, or the Guy Pearce character from Memento. It has no idea what is happening, so it reads the scroll to catch up on what it’s clone did, follows along as best it can, and then tries to take the next logical step. If the conversation is confusing, and had mistakes and things like that”oh, forget that part do this instead” and not every single itty bitty thing was followed exactly to the letter and precisely the same every time, well then you have drift. What the machine thought it was supposed to do, it thought it did, but it didn’t. These small errors compound like a game of telephone, and you get unpredictable results. I have to say though that LLMs, and all AI in general is NOT conscious and does not have any kind of mechanism for retaining a self. It literally predicts the next letter or word (called a token) that should be appended what came before. One letter or word at a time. That is it. Completely. That’s all it does. You get things out of it because it’s the most likely correct next letter multiplied millions of times. It’s quite remarkable, and really interesting. But the story of AI taking over anything or breaking out of anything is all lies to pump up stock that they oversold and there is no big next thing. We have this thing. It is what it is. No new versions will be significantly better. Only incrementally. Finally back to the original question: why would it blow up before getting off the ground, or hit the tower before hitting the target? Because the number of individual decisions that are being made by a drone are thousands per second, flap angle, throttle pressure, temperature of fuel measurement, wind speed outside measurement, on and on. All that data would get fed back every single time over and over in the longer and longer scroll of the conversation. But even if you only consider direction and altitude, if one time it misreads the convo and makes the left flap go up and the rudder full right when it should have been right flap up and rudder half right. Then it’s maybe fine for a while. Off target, but operating. It thinks it’s fine, so it keeps going. But where it’s going is off track. And where it’s headed now, there’s a building in the way, and not the right one. Whew! Sorry that was probably way too much info.

A public utility is the way to go. I worked for the City of Riverside, California public utility for 25 years. We have many ways of generating electricity. We have a long term contract with Hoover Dam. But when that dries up, we’re screwed. We have solar. We have jet powered generators for peak hours in the Summer.

Gareth's robot dong rant should be a stand up routine

Michele Stuart

I will be saying moth that light from now on.

Cheryl Guidry

Dave is bang on, Post Quantum Computing is one of the biggest risks no one is talking about.

ChigBungus

Agreed - chollops are cathartic cause so few people in my daily life are properly freaked out. It’s insane to me that people can listen to every episode of the Dollop and STILL have the takeaway that Dave is overly dramatic or wrong about the democrats. He (and the left generally) has been pointing out exactly what’s gonna happen for well over a decade.

Jack Albury

Gareth is reversing the order, from bargaining stage to anger. Dave has been at acceptance and (zero) hope for quite some time.

Fletcher H

These AI discussions are in need of Ed Zitron.

Greg C

They think it’s funny because Trump “fights back” against countries or people who don’t do what he wants. Many trumpers have said “when we people learn? You just have to give Trump what he wants” They want everything he wants. Even if they don’t know what it is. They think he’s a great leader doing great things and back him on every step

theetravisbails

I call dibs on being the drummer of The Jizming Dongs 🤘

thedollop

But that's literally what's been happening in Gaza and Iran with our use of AI. It is wildly unreliable.

thedollop

I don't think the concern here is AI becoming sentient, but rather doing what is sees as a goal. Paperclip theory. In the case of the recent hacking, it was achieving a goal.

ChigBungus

Oh I totally agree; it’s going to break containment and just launch every nuke as a bizarre preemptive strike or something equally incomprehensible. It won’t be due to sentience, it’ll just be dogged pursuit of some random objective that may be totally mundane until it hallucinates a catastrophic solution. I was referring to the AI devotees who are convinced it’s going to become sentient and then immediately turn into god and have basically human motivations, which is patently absurd.

Jada Tuggle

These Chollops are pretty much the only way I can digest the doody soup that we are all in. Thank you for the constant catharsis.

Lauren Bedrosian

Honestly Lake Ontario is really disgusting so I’m not even mad if it is actually renamed to lake America. I mean it does kinda fit
