Man, the unease and creepiness of this first episode was nuts. Sam is also very on point about the art direction being top notch and really enhances the atmosphere and the overall tone.

I'm picking up a lot of gay undertones. I wonder if they had a secret relationship before Hikaru was taken. They live in a small village so it might be something they had to keep a secret or maybe they both have internalized homophobia and couldn't come to terms with their feelings for each other. I just have a sense they were more than friends. It's not labeled as yaoi or BL so maybe I'm just imagining it.

you’re definitely not imagining it lol, it’s very much a queer story with horror on top of it! it’s not explicitly a romance which is why it isn’t labeled as such, but a lot of his experiences are meant to read that way
