Zero imho is a good start. People will complain and want you to start with the Stay/Night 2006 adaptation but it hasn't aged well. At least I think so. Just go with the flow, Zero, UBW, Heavens feel movies. Thanks!

This is a lot so hopefully this will break it down a little for you. Holy grail war is a war that basically is a big battle for a all powerful wish granting magic item . There are seven masters who each summon one servant . Making it seven servants in total . These servants are heroes from the past boosted by magic to fight for the masters in the war . They are all in the same time period but because a lot of mages pride themselves in old magic and traditions. A lot of them shun present technology like guns or even tech like a cell phones which make them seem from a older time period . Basically they are boomers who refuse to grow with the times . That doesn't mean other people won't use tech to there advantage. Now to get the all powerful wish granting grail you have to kill the other servants. FYI all the servants are historical figures of note who were either a real person for example ( issac newton) or a real myth of person for example King Arthur . King arthur isnt real but the historical myth of him is real and wildly known .

Super excited to see you guys react to this show! I’ve very recently started Fate myself and I really love it. I think you’re right about the first episode setting up the story. I watched this after playing the original Stay Night visual novel, so most of the info felt like a refresher. It’s a lot to take in at the start but I think you guys got everything pretty much correct, and the show should help clear up any confusion as it goes on. Can’t wait for the next episode!

i don't know if it's correct necessarily. I personally watched fate stay/night before zero ages ago and it's perfectly fine. I also think that's the intended order but i agree that zero and then stay/night is fine as well.

Although people do typically say watch zero first since it's a prequel, watching fate stay/night first eases you into the world which is why this episode feels like a big lore dump. As long you guys understand the basics: the holy grail that gets summoned in fuyuki city every 60yrs that can grant any one wish is fought over by 7 masters and their servants. Rider, Saber, Archer, Caster, Lancer, Assassin and berserker. Also that anyone can become a master.

The episode 1 info dump gets everyone who isnt already familiar with Fate. They basically try and fit all the exposition into the first episode so we can enjoy the rest lmao

I agree, I watched the 06 stay night first but I definitely think starting with zero is the best. I would highly recommend watching strange/fake as well at the end.

Fate Zero is a light novel and serves as the prequel of Fate/Stay night visual novel which usually have branching routes depending on player choices. Stay Night has 3 "main routes" for the 3 main "heroines" (which is usually how they call the female main cast/character and/or main love interest). So the "main" anime series adapt the 3 routes in Fate/Stay Night (I think the 2006 adaptation kinda butchered that route tbh story wise but that's my opinion), Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works, and Fate: Heaven Feels. After that it is really whatever regarding a "watch order" etc. lol I think that Fate fans are very passionate about the franchise so often they over complicate things for new people.

I would recommend not trying to look up anything online for this series. it's easy to get spoiled. It's not an easy show to understand but trying to figure things out is part of the fun.

Really? I have not seen anyone recommend 06. I'm not deep into FATE, just stating what I've seen on reddit over the years. Since DEEN (presumably) thought it would be a one shot, they took liberties which just don't play well with the other entries, so I most often see people recommend skipping it (or experience the Fate route via the VN).

You guys are experiencing the series the way most Fate fans did as Zero came out first and then Fate Stay Night UBW (Ufotable anime adaptations), even though in the source material Zero was released second. So don’t worry about it not technically being release order.

Yes the main series is Stay Night. Zero was later written to add context about previous stuff and is not written by the original creator/author. So when you go from Zero to Stay night, you will feel their different style of writing.
