While I didn’t like seeing Korra get beat up and lose. But one has to admit, Kuvira is extremely nice with it.

It should be illegal to make fictional dictators THIS HOT

El Gordo

people definitely use that fight to hate on Korra. the problem is that alot of people have seen the fight but not everything around it. the fight gets clipped and shared on twitter, youtube, etc So while people who watched the show know its because of her being poisoned, going through physical therapy, dealing with her mental health and trauma, other people just see it as her losing a fight badly.

2:43 my video paused on this frame and it really made it more obvious how thin korra had gotten, my girl😭💔

Using this fight against Kuvira to slander Korra makes no sense and it never will.

They were definitely bending the crystals in the AtlA season 2 finale, but honestly, what can and can't be bent with Earthbending has always been incredibly arbitrary, even in the original series - AtlA was saying that you bend the impurities of earth within the metal, which leaves open the question as to what exactly supposedly counts as the "earth" that you are bending in there. Like, plenty of minerals inherently have metals as part of their atomic structure, could you bend those, but not the metal atoms on their own? If that is the case, it also means that, realistically, any metal that has been refined to a standard they'd be using in basically any type of construction should already be essentially unbendable (e.g. the airship parts Toph bends in the latter half of S3). It's also not like platinum has some specific quality that makes it uniquely pure or uniquely purifiable as compared to other metals - like, at best it's got it's incredibly high density going for itself, but in that case, gold should be almost as resistant to bending as platinum while being more common than platinum... On the other hand, Aang and the Dai Li being able to bend the crystals as well as Sandbending being a thing means that Earthbenders should likely be able to bend glass, which would be sick af!

Kuvira gets slept on a lot. She isn't quite as charismatic as Amon or Zaheer. But she is a force of nature in her own right. Kuvira is amongst the best metalbenders and she shows how powerful metalbending can be. One thing that stands out about Kuvira is how precise and technical her style is. She makes Zaheer look sloppy in comparison. I'm not saying she is powerful enough to defeat Zaheer, but if you compare their styles Zaheer is very raw. He brute forces airbending. Kuvira, by contrast, is as efficient as the army that surrounds her. She doesn't waste movements. She doesn't lose control of her emotions. She's as precise a bender as any of the villians. Yes, on paper Korra should be able to beat Kuvira and Korra's trauma does nerf her. But make no mistake, Kuvira is a problem.

It does make it interesting how arbitray the bending can be. Platinum, iron, gold, cobalt, chromium, all of these metals are chemical elements. So basically, they are all pure in that sense, since elements are not compounds. It's kind of weird how platinum is chosen to be the pure one.
