As much as I loved this series idk why they comply shifted away from reality in this episode, irl dyatlov and even the other directors were purposely overblamed, dyatlov himself did pretty much nothing wrong

This was so well told and directed and shot. Just so sad so many lives lost cause one mistake causing countless problems, Chernobyl is still radiated no one can ever go back to that whole area luckily it didn't spread more

The slide about the railway bridge at the end has no proof to verify it and is widely considered a urban legend. The containment building around reactor 4 was hit by a Russian suicide drone last year which caused significant damage that could potentially delay the cleanup of reactor 4 until the next century.

Posting this not because I think it's really a problem with the show or that it should change anyone's opinions on it but: If anyone watched this and thought the "graphite tips" explanation of the control rod problem sounded kind of stupid or implausible, that is because it's not actually true, or at least a pretty garbled explanation of what the actual situation is (which is a real shame, because the show otherwise does a really good job of explaining the functioning of a nuclear reactor). If you want a better explanation, there's a better one in this fairly short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIGtTImeYU4 The salient points are: the graphite tips weren't tips so much as the entire front half of the control rod and they weren't there just because they needed something to fill space and that was the cheapest option, they had a function in making the reactor function at all, and it's not that they "entered the reactor first" (in the pre-SCRAM position they're actually fully in there), it's that as they were leaving they pushed some water out of the way and hyper-accelerated the bottom of it. Something that maybe *is* a problem with the show is the way it depicts Dyatlov- in reality, rather than try and throw everyone else under the bus, at the trial he insisted that the operators had done nothing wrong and the problem was (accurately) with the design of the reactor. Probably still a dick otherwise, but still not as much of a villain as the show presents.

A short, impactful series. The performance and cinematography were excellent. Very much appreciate watching this series with y’all. It was super informative.

Please add Andor to the polls to keep the streak of peak. (Also, more Stellan Skarsgård). This coming from someone who hasn't seen Star Wars

The lyudmilla woman (questionable spelling) apparently didn't like her portrayal in this series nor did they ask her for permission. She did an interview sometime after it aired and was upset about it.

The Lid of the reactor core weighs about 2,000 tons, that’s about 4,000,000 pounds and it was popped open like a champagne cork! Nuclear Power produced a lot of steam powerful enough to pop it open!

Thanks for the reaction! I’m from Ukraine, and growing up, we marked the anniversary of the disaster every year and remembered those who lost their lives. I feel like a lot of people around the world knew the name Chornobyl but didn’t know much until this show came out. That’s one of the reasons I love it, even if it might not get every detail right, it helped so many people learn more about the disaster. Fun fact: when Russian soldiers invaded in 2022, they took over the Chornobyl nuclear plant and dug trenches in the area, potentially exposing themselves to radiation.
