Chapter 1 Reboot, Page One BEHIND THE SCENES (Patreon)

I'm going to show the step-by-step processes for each individual page from the intro in their own separate post. Here's the first one, which includes some character design stuff as well.

These pages show a new character to the series... well, new to you guys, she's been in my roster of characters for a while now. She was originally meant to show up later, but I decided to bring her into the intro for the new colorized version.

This is my very first drawing of the character. This is... this is old, guys, haha. I had to remove some elements from the image but you get the idea. I never did a full-length drawing of her, though, so I decided to redesign her dress. For that I turned to one of my favorites for inspiration, Alphonse Mucha.

This was a rough design I made based on the dress in the Mucha painting on the right. I loved the multiple straps and ribbons, though I added more than what was in Mucha's design. I took away the headdress and instead put little coins of gold in her hair.

I played around with colors a bit here. I actually thought she looked very pretty in the purple colors but went with the "flag of Mexico" color scheme on the right instead, haha. The purple didn't let her pop on these pages, which were very purple/bluish.

Rough sketches...

Turning rough sketches into lineart... For the birdcage I drew a little design, multiplied it, and set it against the circular rims.

Full lineart. Ended up tilting that top panel a bit.

Silhouettes...

Flat and base colors...

Shadows, spot blacking, played with textures to make the birdcage look a bit old... Added some dialogue, etc. I did not go in order as much for these pages.

More textures, highlights, worked on backgrounds a bit more...

More SFX, started on the green energy bursts from inside the birdcage...

Added more sound effects, more shadows and background effects, adjusted dialogue...

Finished... I know some stuff looks wonky but color is a whole new realm for me! Doing my best!

The other three pages are already scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I think I'll be posting something every weekday this week...
