Kris begins her hunt for Bella's replacement - and finds the perfect candidate walking through the doors of the Full Rack. But turning from prey to predator means crossing a line she can never uncross.

We've watched Kris survive. Now we watch her hunt. I really enjoyed writing this one, even if last episode was more "fun" with Alan and the new life Kris is building. This episode shows how trauma doesn't just break people - it can forge them into something entirely new. Sometimes that's beautiful. Sometimes it's frightening. Often it's both. Let me know what you think! 💖

Bella Lime

Nice chapter. hmmmm, I wonder who Bella could be since we see only the mask.

Gemma

That last image of Kristine, the smile on her face, capturing her thoughts, yep, she certainly is no longer a victim! The imagery, along with the story is amazing in this episode. Subtle aspects of Kris’s facial expressions, the frown on her brow as she is thinking, great art work Emory. Fantastic story. Waiting to see what happens to Greg. Also wondering how far along is Issiah, is Kris too late for him/ her?

Tiki D

Greg is perfect candidate due how perceive women and cheats on his wife. Kristine see right through his so called "man of justice " act.

Tiki D

Kristine is have a lot guilt eating her alive inside, despite still have connection to Bella and doing her dirty work from time to time. At same time, I am curious of what Greg's transformation to a woman looks like? It looks like he going get his karma soon.

Tiki D

I would be interesting of Kayla was Bella as "Woman behind the Certain" that's behind this operation. By her being at the beginning of the chapter, she still worry about Chris. If they meet again, she will have to come to terms that Kris and Chris have accepted each internally and found rebirth love with Alan. I know she not accept Kris' actions easily, but I think deep down too much has changed for them to be together.

Bella googling “Head sized display case with stand”

Interesting that Ben would clarify about “Diane” makes it feel like that name is significant and will come up in a future episode

Wow! You certainly packed a lot into what felt like a short chapter. Firstly, the two renders of Kayla heading for the diner to intercept Kris and Ben - presumably after a text from Ben, still agonising over her last contact with Chris, and her recognition of his dual personalities. She also thinks that when she gets there she’ll be meeting Chris, so she’ll be in for a shock. Thereafter it’s back to Kris recounting the story of how she set up the Stinker, although we still have to discover how her attempt fell through. And there are some tantalising clues as well: when Kris mentions Stillman’s wife’s name as Diane, Ben starts at that, but Kris just carries on; there’s clearly a connection. Secondly, the mask: is it a disguise or is Bella disfigured in some way? If she is that would explain a lot. Also, there’s the writing on the painting on Bella’s wall that reads “My Dear Elise, Never again.” It could be nothing, but who knows? And the art, yet again, is perfect film noir, with all the drama that entails. Great and skilful use of shadow and darkness throughout. Yet another superb episode, Emory. xx

Wondering if it is someone who will help make the tie with the Xuniverse? It was said inferred or implied I think some time ago in comments that this story might be another part of the Xuniverse. Maybe that was a red herring? But it was not stated where in the Xuniverse it belongs. I was trying to find a contemporary connection (though the dates on Stillman's bio page might make my thought an impossibility). But what if this story is much earlier in the Xuniverse timeline? We saw an image in J&J of Xu without his shirt at a bathroom sink. It was clear there were whipping or beating scars in his back. There also appeared to be double mastectomy scars on his chest suggesting Xu himself might have transitioned from female to male. What if Bela is Xu before the transition was complete. While still perfecting his craft for transition before creating Clinic 12? But why would Bella who hates men transition into one? It is a misogynistic world. What better way to exercise power while remaining utterly anonymous? "Nothing to see here folks, just another old rich Asian guy." It is a stretch for sure, but would make a very interesting story, cross-over vehicle, and franchise twist. But the mask and the painting? Emory does not put random things in her illustrations, especially front and center like that. And for the painting 3x's! They have to be clues? But as yet not sure to what? There is a name on the painting. Who is Elise? Is it Bella? And never what "again"? That is clearly a clue. Have we seen the mask before? In Xu's office, or somewhere else in clinic 12? It suggests several different horror stories. A mask in general suggests Jason from Halloween. A half mask like Phantom of the Opera. Stapled together like Frankenstein or possibly some other horror mask I am drawing a blank on. And the round object over the right eye suggests the implants on the Borg. And in general a metal mask suggests something very old from Roman or Greek times. Then there is the face it rests on that appears very human like, and with what looks like the disfigurement of burns like Freddy. So much and yet so little that as yet seems to connect and provide clarity.

Bella does say that Isiah is resisting his transition, but even although Bella is open about her admiration and respect for Kris, she’s still insisting on another fresh victim, and it’s impossible to fully trust her. She’s more than capable of twisting her own words to suit a changing situation.

Hi Diana! I will respond more to this excellent comment later - but we know the current date is May 7, 2021 because that was on Ben's phone at the end of Season 2. (Well, it just said FRIDAY, May 7th... but the last time that happened was 2021) In both J&J and Half Sisters, it's currently late August 2020. 💕 As for hints of a connection... in Episode 31 there was a brief glimpse of a billboard for "Xu Life Sciences" Oh, and Kris wears the same brand lipstick as Taylor - "Vixen" 🤣 As for the mask... many people assumed we were seeing Bella's real "face" in Season 1. Obviously now that is not the case... But is she trying to simply scare / intimidate her prisoners? Or is there more? Hm. Love your attention to detail!

Emory Ahlberg

This is my favorite comment of yours, Robert! (Kidding 😘)

Maggie Heels

Wow... a lot happened here... Stinker would not be sufficient to give her freedom... that sucks... she needs another fuckface... hmmm... at least it is not too late for Isaiah and that is something good. About the clues... I do not remember exactly what Xu was saying or showing us in J&J and I do not remember same for Bella but... what if Xu and Bella are closer than we think? Like really close? Siblings for example? And who will Kris choose for freeing her dammit.... is that choice really that obvious? ❣️❣️❣️

U continue to wow me emory

Vaping? Wow. I know it's bad but really hope she get's addicted to it and we see more of her vape or even smoke.

exceptional episode very good I want him to suffer and become a beautiful castrated blonde 😁😁

Ellen Mellor

The intrigue deepens. What started out as a forced femme/revenge scenario is taking so many twists and turns that I have no idea where it's going next. I'm really enjoying following along.

Tuor

I just finished reading ths chapter and I am still a little shaky, I might need a sip of wine to calm down! What a story : o

Kris Greg

The abuser is going down!

Kirsten Roberts

This is the greatest story you’ve ever done and that’s really saying something when you consider them all. I am dying to see where this goes and feel bad for Kris who just wants the feeling of annome

Emory Ahlberg

Wanted to come back and say you're of course right that nothing in the art is random. "Elise" and "never again" are the two poles of Bella's entire universe. They're the origin story....

Emory Ahlberg

That Kayla-as-Bella theory is a deliciously dark thought. But she's a lawyer, not a surgeon - unless she had help!

Emory Ahlberg

You're so right about Kris's guilt. I think it's what keeps her human, but it's also a luxury she can't afford right now.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Tiki! Greg is the perfect target because he lets her believe this isn't just survival... it's justice.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you Gemma! Yeah that smile isn't one of happiness... it's of grim satisfaction. It's the moment she fully sheds the victim's skin and embraces her new power, unsettling as it is. For three years, she was prey. Now, she's the hunter.

Emory Ahlberg

Robert - You are 100% correct to never, ever trust Bella. Her admiration for Kris is genuine, but it's the admiration a master has for a prized weapon, not the affection one person has for another.

Emory Ahlberg

Wait... Jade, you don't have one of these? I thought everyone did!

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Pedro! Yeah... there's a certain grim satisfaction in seeing a man like that get a taste of the powerlessness he's inflicted on others!

Emory Ahlberg

Haha, well I think Kris has earned the right to be a little messy and imperfect after having to be so perfect for so long.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much Ken! That truly means a lot to me. 💕

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Maggie! Even when Kris thinks she's in control, Bella is still the one writing the rules of the game. For Kris's final choice... we'll see! She didn't send Victor, so obviously she is still going by her own 'code.'

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Robert! I love reading your breakdowns. You pick up on every little thread I'm trying to weave. That impending collision with Kayla... I feel bad for her. She's walking into a conversation that's already miles ahead of where she is, and the shock is going to be immense. The name Diane is absolutely a breadcrumb hehe. Oh, and "My Dear Elise, Never again" is the promise that fuels her entire crusade. Also, didn't the painting kinda look like someone else? 😉 Thank you for appreciating the noir feel! it's a world where everyone is hiding something, even from themselves.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much, Kirsten! 💕After everything she's been through, all Kris wants is the quiet, boring, beautiful feeling of having a home. It's such a simple, human desire, but for her, it's a prize she has to fight for with every tool at her disposal, even the darkest ones!

Emory Ahlberg

💖It's a grim kind of satisfaction, but it's satisfaction nonetheless. After everything she's endured, it's time for the hunter to become the hunted.

Emory Ahlberg

Wow, thank you, Tuor! That's the best compliment I could ask for. I wanted this chapter to feel like a tightrope walk between the warmth of the life Kris is building and the cold dread of what she has to do to protect it. 💖

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Ellen. I'm so glad you're enjoying the twists! 💕 I wanted to take the initial premise and dig deeper. This isn't just a revenge story anymore... It's become a story about what happens when the person you were forced to become feels more real than the person you were before. And is there any room left for the 'old' you?

Jade Diaz

Mine is too small! . . . that’s what she said
