Look, I know I have a problem. I can't just write a simple transition story - I have to add betrayal, organized crime, and morally dubious medical professionals. It's like I'm allergic to straightforward plots. 😅

This story certainly has grabbed my interest. I assume it is part one of this story as there are so many unanswered questions. What happens from here? Will Rhett struggle to accept and adjust to her new gender and identity? How will she react to social changes she encounters around her new gender and how she experiences the world? Are there any shifts in her sexual orientation following her transition? I also wonder about and am trying to imagine what will be a twist will be on this story.

The interesting factor here is the authorities contracting out the plastic surgery to a private third party, which immediately creates the possibility of corruption and compromise, which, in the end, is what happens. The curse of capitalism strikes again! It’s a great twist on what’s become a well travelled road. Otherwise I agree with the others - this feels as if it’s only halfway with a lot more to come.
