I owe you an apology. Episode 35 of Homecoming is running late - it'll be out tomorrow for sure.

This one ended up being longer and more complicated than I planned, both in writing and art. I kept thinking I could trim it down, find a natural stopping point earlier, but... I can't. I have trouble cutting an episode short when it feels like an incomplete thought. Each episode needs to be a complete experience, and this one especially so.

We're nearing the end of this season, and I have a very specific idea - a very specific feeling - for how this episode needs to land. Interrupting it would break something crucial (at least in my mind). So it grew. And grew. And here we are.

I'm sorry for my perfectionism. I know you're waiting, and I appreciate your patience and desire to see the next episode more than I can say. But I think you'll understand when you read it. At least, I hope you will.

Here are some preview images to tide you over. Kayla's arrived at the diner. Things are about to get messy.

Thank you for understanding my brand of crazy. It'll be worth the wait. 💕

Thank you, Hel! This is giving me anxiety. 😔

You're amazing, be kind to yourself. Tis the season

Jade Diaz

You should never feel guilty for making your art exactly the way you want. But you **should** go to bed earlier 🙃🙃

Robertlouis

I’m happy to wait too, Emory. You have such a busy life, it’s amazing that you manage to find the time for everything. And when what you produce is of such consistently high quality, the occasional delay truly does not matter. Take care of yourself xx

Ellen Mellor

Take your time. It will be worth the wait.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much, Robert! 💕 I have the best patrons, truly. Comments like this mean so much...... they really do. I won't lie, I feel the pressure to deliver quality every time, but it's the good kind of pressure when I know you all are so understanding and supportive. Your patience and kindness make it possible for me to take the time to get things right instead of just rushing them out the door. Taking care of myself is... a work in progress, but I'm trying! 😊 Thank you again. 💖

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Ellen! I blame my "movie mind" - I have a VERY specific last image in mind for the episode... Honestly, every time you read a new episode, I want you to feel like you just watched your favorite Netflix binge-worthy show and just can't wait to hit "NEXT EPISODE" lol

Ellen Mellor

I know exactly what you mean. I do something very similar when I'm writing. The major difference being nobody gets to see it until it's finished. And you're far better than any Netflix show. I mean, we have a reasonable expectation that the stories you start will last longer than one season before getting cancelled...

Emory Ahlberg

Ha! The bar is literally on the floor when it comes to Netflix! At least with my stories, the only reason they'd get "cancelled" is if I spontaneously combust from perfectionism. And even then, I'd probably leave detailed notes for someone to finish them. Thank you, Ellen. It really does help knowing I'm not alone in the "but it's not DONE yet" struggle! 💕

No worries Emory. Like any great cook would tell you when baking a magnificent cake, patience is important ingredient to ensure your satisfaction and the quality of the completed product. ‘So cook away.’ P.S. Thanks also for Kayla’s letter . It certainly warms us up and also provides further insight into her love for Chris and her ‘fear of loss’ experiences following Chris’s disappearance.

Robertlouis

My pleasure, Emory. You love us, we love you back. 💕

Crewchick

Emory, no worries. Julia Child never cooked with a microwave. Rembrandt was not using paint by numbers. Artistry takes times.

Crewchick

Agree with Gemma, too in her PS. Kayla's diary is very insightful. I am hoping we will be seeing/reading more of it. I suspect it might also help explain the relationship that developed with Benji, and her side of things and what she was going through living with Chris/Kris after he/she came home.

Life happens. I'm sure that a lot's going on in your life, & the holidays aren't helping. Thanks for letting us know that you're trying, & good luck.

Chlorophile

Emory, dont worry. You don't need to be content machine.

Emory Ahlberg

I really appreciate this message! I just get so much joy bringing you all stories!
