This is it. The last chapter of this book. 101,753 words and 137 images later.

I'm not gonna lie - hitting "publish" on this one hurts. I've been living with Taylor, Abigail, Maya, Will, and Alicia for months now, and saying goodbye is hard.

So, yeah, this chapter was the most difficult to write. Taylor deserved an ending that honored their journey - the pain, the fear, the joy, the messy, beautiful complexity of figuring out who you are when the boxes don't fit.

I hope you enjoy it. Thank you for following this story. Thank you for caring about these characters as much as I do. Your comments, your excitement, your investment in Taylor's journey has given me so much energy.

And hey... I said this is the end of this book. I love these characters too much to never visit them again. We'll see. ๐Ÿ’•

P.S. If you need to catch up, all the chapters are here!

What an incredible ending for this story! Taylorโ€™s found family and their blood family coming together is amazing!

Robertlouis

Itโ€™s such a shame that weโ€™re more than 5,000 miles apart, Emory, because if we were together, Iโ€™d be hugging you so hard. What a perfect, heartwarming conclusion to a wonderful story. More in due course, but what a joy this tale has been. โค๏ธ

Bobbie

Simply beautiful. Congratulations and thank you. โค๐Ÿ™ This is the world I want to live in; full of kindness, acceptance and love.

Zoe Storm

Absolutely beautiful. Very well done, Emory :)

Kris Greg

Taylor deserved this happy ending. Thanks for the lovely story. I enjoyed every chapter.

Ellen Mellor

I'm not crying. You're crying. Beautiful, sweet and perfect. If only you could write the real world. Then I'd look amazing in a sexy nurse outfit. I mean, there'd be one or two minor issues about billionaire monsters destroying people's lives but they seem to be content with doing it to a few dozen young men rather than the entire world so... swings and roundabouts. This was exactly the story I needed right now. It took me away from the anxiety and problems of my own life - I'm awaiting the results of my appeal against dismissal - and gave me the perfect trans Hallmark movie (complementary) I didn't know I needed. I hope you come up with a new scenario for them (meaning Taylor themself but also the trio) but I know you won't commit yourself to anything until you find the perfect scenario. I look forward to seeing them pick up the Nobel Prize for Scientific Achievement for discovering what Dark Matter actually is. And using it to make the Most Amazing ballgown in which to accept the prize.

Thomas Tolliver

Stole my first line! But of course, many of us were thinking it, right? Gah!

Thomas Tolliver

๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ The little story flashback? I mean, I know I like dark, but that was painful, I had to take a moment. But the end? Sweet, sentimental, everything I follow Emory for. But moreso than other stories, as I mentioned in another comment, this one really resonated with me personally. I may not have the same situation but I still feel it inside and it's right. So thank you. Also. I doubt Taylor would grow out her hair further, but if you ever do any "pinups" or "one-offs" photos, maybe one of those could have her in a cute wig with long hair? >.> <.<

Bella Lime

A wonderfully tender, vulnerable, and lovely โ€œendโ€. Definitely worth the tears.

Firewalker

Loved this so much ๐Ÿฅบ I love the endpoint of Taylor's journey and how much they've come together into a place they can just be as they figure themself out. Beautiful writing all the way through ๐Ÿ’–

Eva Grimm

From start to finish, this story has been handled with such love and care. I've enjoyed every second of it; thank you so much for writing it!0 Also... The line, "It just means that even after something ends, its light keeps going. Keeps reaching. Keeps mattering," hit me really, really hard. One of my dogs died just days ago, and I have multiple people close to me who are fighting for their lives right now, so this was exactly what I needed right now ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Maggie Heels

Wooow finally finished reading... โฃ๏ธโฃ๏ธโฃ๏ธโฃ๏ธโฃ๏ธโฃ๏ธโฃ๏ธโฃ๏ธ

What a nice uplifting story. It seemed that the abuse and injustice that was so much a big part of Taylorโ€™s life was counter balanced at College with the degree of acceptance, compassion and understanding he/ she encountered from friends, girlfriends, fellow students, and in this episode with those in positions of authority. And yes, Taylor does need counselling to help attend to the enormous over sensitive inner critic that became installed as a result of past abuse and trauma. Nice uplifting story Emory.

M Fielding

I'm still wiping my eyes. You're not alone in your love for these characters, Emory. Brilliant from start to finish. Thank you!

Wes Adams

They did look rather fetching with Jadzia's pony tail.

Neil Lewis

I was going to write my first ever message on Patreon, but this says exactly how I feel. So thank you so much for this story and I'm still crying.

Omagathief

Beautiful finish to an excellent depiction of someoneโ€™s life that doesnโ€™t fit the normal mold that society tries to make everyone fit into ๐Ÿฅฒโค๏ธ. I love the final picture of Taylor with stars in their eyes, crying happy tears. It is the perfect way to finish this part of their story.

Jerome B

A wonderful ending to one of the best and most emotive and heart warming stories I have ever read. Emory, you are a genius and should get the Patreon equivalent of an Oscar. โค๏ธ I sincerely hope there is more to come from Taylor and Co. [You said Taylor would wear pantyhose again, I am crestfallen this didn't happen... ๐Ÿ˜ญ]

Michael Merenstein

Emory, I've loved all of your work but this one was special. I found it helped reconnect myself with emotions that really don't have much to do with gender issues at all. A quest of self acceptance, authenticity, daily struggle, and a place in the world along those making up my life. Truth is far tougher to obtain than honesty but I believe, ultimately less important. Your honesty transcended its genre for me and connected with something human and universal in the way that art sometimes can. Thanks for all the episodes, the great read, a lot of heart and a bit of art in the transcendant, human interconnected way.

SingularCurve

What an ending to a great story!! Taylor finally gets a label that feels better for them. MIT protects them. People love and protect them. Taylor is a badass!!

Claire

I love that the last image of Taylor switches back to a more realistic rendering. An image of the real Taylor. Emory, I love all these little touches in your story that might go unnoticed but add to the whole. I am so going to miss these people... but I'm very much looking forward to who you are going to introduce us to next!

Jodie C

I can't believe how much I'm crying right now! That was such a beautiful story, and such a fitting place to conclude it. โค๏ธ

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Jodie. ๐Ÿ’• I cried writing it, too. Several times. I was hoping to give Taylor a moment where for the first time the tears weren't about pain or shame, but of relief and joy.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Claire! You caught that! I made the art style more detailed to mirror the raw reality of who they are. It felt like the only way to show that they finally feel real to themselves. ๐Ÿ’• I'm going to miss them too, but this may not be the end for Taylor and Abigail! Also, my brain is already cooking up the next group of messy, lovable disasters for you to meet haha

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Singiular! I think it heals a specific kind of trauma to have an authority figure look at you and say "you belong here, exactly as you are." Too bad it's kind or rare in the real world. And yes, Taylor is an absolute badass for surviving long enough to thrive! ๐Ÿ’–

Emory Ahlberg

Wow, Michael, your comment hit me hard. Thank you. ๐Ÿ’– That universal struggle for authenticity is exactly that... universal. I don't believe you have to be trans or non-binary to know what it feels like to wear a mask. We all just want to be seen for who we actually are, not what people assume. I'm honored that Taylor's story connected with your human one. And thank you for taking the time to comment! ๐Ÿ’•

Emory Ahlberg

An Oscar! I will take it. Thank you, Jerome! ๐Ÿ’• LOL - As for the pantyhose... listen, I know I teased it! But in the end, Taylor's journey was about stripping away the requirements, not adding them back on. The Jadzia costume was their choice, and for that moment, comfort won out over hosiery. But hey, they are young and still experimenting... never say never for the future! hehe

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Omaga! ๐Ÿ’– That final image is honestly one of my favorite images I've ever created. Taylor spent so long looking down, trying to be small. Having them look up at the infinite - with stars in their eyes both literally and metaphorically - was how I tried to show they're finally ready to take up space.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Fielding! ๐Ÿ’• It actually helps to know I'm not the only one grieving the end of this. This chapter felt like saying goodbye to friends I've lived with for months. But actually... knowing they exist in your head now, too makes letting go a little easier. Neil, welcome to the comments! Please don't be a stranger. Knowing that the story moved you to tears tells me I did my job right ๐Ÿ’– Thank you for being here!

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Gemma! To me, it felt vital that Taylor's horrific high school experience be met with equal force by the kindness of their college life. That inner critic is vicious (I know from experience), and counseling is absolutely the next logical step. Healing isn't linear, and a lot of time it requires professional tools, not just love! Dr. Locke's insistence on it was my way of showing that true support isn't just about saying "it's okay," but about providing the resources to MAKE it okay (hopefully eventually). ๐Ÿ’–

Emory Ahlberg

Wooow right back at you Maggie! ๐Ÿ’– Thank you for sticking with Taylor through every awkward, painful, and beautiful moment.

Emory Ahlberg

Oh goodness Eva, I am so sorry about your dog. I know that grief. ๐Ÿ’• I wrote that line about starlight for myself, honestly, because losing someone (or some pup) leaves such a void. But their impact on us doesn't vanish just because they're gone. The love they gave us keeps traveling, keeps warming us, just like that distant light. I'm glad Taylor's dad could offer you a little comfort in a hard time. Sending you so much love!

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Firewalker! Yeah... I didn't want Taylor to have it all "solved." Who has their entire identity figured out at 18? I sure as hell didn't. So, to me, the victory isn't in knowing exactly who they are forever... it's in having a safe place to ask the questions. ๐Ÿ’•

Emory Ahlberg

Aww - "Tender" is such a lovely word for it. Thank you, Bella. ๐Ÿ’– I think Taylor, Abigail, Maya, and Will all proved that true strength requires vulnerability. Letting the armor drop was the hardest thing Taylor ever did (so far)!

Emory Ahlberg

Thanks, Thomas. I know that flashback was brutal. I flinched writing it... But I thought we needed to see the depth of the wound. Dr. Locke needed to understand this wasn't just about money, it was about survival. As for the hair... I think Taylor might be experimenting a little in the future! ๐Ÿ’–

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Ellen! Pass the tissues, because I'm there with you. First off, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for your appeal. ๐Ÿ’• Bureaucracy is a nightmare LOL - I think "trans Hallmark movie (complementary)" is going on my rรฉsumรฉ. Sometimes we deserve soft, happy endings too, don't we? The world is sharp enough. I love your vision of their Nobel Prize future. Adult Taylor in a gown would be fabulous - and quite a sight! I do have SOME sequel ideas, although I don't want to give anything away just yet. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Kris. ๐Ÿ’• They really did. After everything Taylor survived. I'm so glad you enjoyed the ride!

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Zoe! ๐Ÿ’– "Beautiful" is the ending Taylor deserved... glad I was able to deliver to the best of my ability!

Emory Ahlberg

This is the world I want to live in, too, Bobbie. ๐Ÿ’– Maybe if we can imagine kindness and acceptance this clearly in fiction, we can build it... or at least start!

Emory Ahlberg

Robert, I can feel that hug from 5,000 miles away ๐Ÿ’• Thank you so much. This story has been a joy for me, too... a sometimes painful, often teary, but ultimately joyful exorcism of old ghosts. But I'm so glad I got to share it with you all!

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Jade! ๐Ÿ’– So often in queer stories, we trade one family for another. I wanted Taylor to have both... the messy, loving blood family that tries (and sometimes fails) to protect them, and the found family that teaches them how to fly. Having them all in one place for a little while felt like the only way to make Taylor feel truly whole.

Liz Locke

Omg how did I miss this last chapter. Emory. Girl. This is one of my favorite โ€œnewโ€ series Iโ€™ve had in awhile. Love this ending. Kinda wish I could buy a physical copy of it.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much! You will be able to! Iโ€™m working on it! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Phil B

Brilliant work. Simply brilliant..period.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you very much, Phil! โ™ฅ๏ธ The ending of Taylorโ€™s story makes me cry good tears every time Iโ€™m brought back to itโ€ฆ so thank you!

SteveP

You were promoting this on Bluesky and I couldnโ€™t find it on Patreon and it was driving me crazy but I persisted and kept searching and finally I found it. I started reading and it took me a minute to realize that I had read it before but by then I was hooked and had to keep reading until I finished it. Just as good the second time around! A wonderful, heartwarming story, and my heart really likes being warmed. Thank you, thank you (once for each reading).

Emory Ahlberg

I'm really glad you found it (Patreon makes it a pain - I do my best with the collections and tagging) and thank you so much for your kind words and for reading it again! Taylor Made is one of my favorite stories that I've ever written! The ending makes me cry every time. ๐Ÿ’•
