I wanted to share something a bit different with you today - the actual script for Episode 34 of Homecoming.

I graduated from Emerson College for film (yes, just like Maya in Taylor Made), and while I've loved working with prose since I was about 13 - writing "novels" in spiral notebooks that will never see the light of day - I use screenwriting for visual mediums like my graphic novels.

This is how these stories start: on the page, formatted like a screenplay, broken down into shots and dialogue. Then comes the translation into actual renders, where things inevitably change. Sometimes a panel needs to be split into two for pacing. Sometimes a line of dialogue gets cut because the expression says it better. Sometimes the shotI envisioned just doesn't work technically, so I adapt.

It's exactly like actual TV or movie production - the script is the blueprint, but the final product is always different from what's on the page. That gap between intention and execution is where the art happens.

So you'll notice differences between this script and what you saw in the final episode. Some dialogue shifted. Some visual descriptions changed. A few moments got expanded or compressed. That's all part of the process.

I hope you find this interesting! It's a peek behind the curtain at how these stories actually get made, from concept to completion.

Thank you for being part of the Double Platinum tier. Your support is incredible! 💕 If you'd like more of these, let me know... there is literally one for every episode you've ever read.

This is sooo cool!!! 🤩 Ooh btw this is a crazy coincidence, but I live really close to the Dutch campus of Emerson lol. It's nice to visit by bicycle; what with it being a restored castle and all.

💕That is amazing! I had so many friends who spent a semester there. They loved it!

Thank you, Alyson! It's funny, reading it after the fact and I think you can almost imagine the 'in between' moments and make it into a TV show episode in your head...

Gemma

Thank you for proving some insights into your process. Certainly both your tertiary education training along with your natural creativity and talents for prose is so evident within brilliant stories you have created.

Thank you, Gemma! I do think film school at least helps me also with framing an image and lighting. 😊

Gemma

Yoyr lighting skills are certainly noticeable and add dramatic effect and depth to many of your images.
