Cindy's got plans for Friday night: get shitfaced at Murph's, maybe hook up with someone (or kick them in the dick—dealer's choice), and absolutely NOT play babysitter to her traumatized houseguest.

Except Isaiah has other ideas. He's been trapped in that apartment for three weeks, slowly losing his mind, and he's desperate to exist in the world again.

Part 3 next month will (probably) conclude this story! Cindy has gotten under my skin in ways I didn't expect. I love writing her. Can't wait to read what you think! 💖

2026-09-14 23:00 I love more and more this story. I feel you seam really enjoy writing it. By the way she could have call her isia ( or izia) it 's a girl name too. But isabella is valid and litterally means beauty Isa

Who knew, Cindy really has a big heart! Great episode and beautiful images. It seems Cindy, even with all the discomfort she claims to still hold in relation to her forced transition, seems to have found her own crew, space and place. Cindy also has the right combinations of sassy, cute and hot.

Just insanely good. Lining up the brainworms and killing them off one by one. I’m never ever gonna be small and petite and delicate looking but that’s ok. I am how I am. Would I summon an elder god for smaller feet? Yep, probably. But there are lots of women with big feet in the world.

Having read your works for years, I'm continually impressed by how good you are at dialogue and how much your skills have grown over the years. I'm saying this because in my creative writing, I know how hard it is to do convincing and expressive dialogue. So you have my gratitude and my admiration!

So here’s the thing. I saw Hamnet the other day a beautifully melancholic look at grief. This is what you do. Produce a story that looks at grief, loss, and how in amongst all the pain some joy some way forward can be found. Adore this xxx

Cindy continues to be an absolute riot, if anyone is going to throw a molotov cocktail into Bella's entire operation it's her. Not out of a sense of justice or anything, just from spite. It's amazing. The lessons she learned, that she is trying to teach Isa (cute name btw) while trying not to be attached is incredible. Giving up her night to babysit, because let's face it, that's what she'll be doing all night Not being ready is one of the interesting thing about Bella's basement. You can leave on your terms once you earn enough points, but being out in public is scary. I'm really glad we're seeing the cost to the operation outside of Kris/Chris story. Love it.

I like how Isa is helping make Cindy feel more like a real human. In helping Isiaih become Isa, Cindy is healing herself.

Wow, amazing. Totally drew me in and had me hanging on every word. I love how these Learning Curves get in to the nitty gritty of just trying to live. That is something I love in general about your writing. The transitions are not some waive of a magic wand and everything is changed and life is perfect as a girl with not even a hint of any transition issues or need for mental adjustment to the new life. Cindy if completely gritty and real. You are an amazing writer with a true eye for detail and killer dialogue and monologues. I confess though, the one thing I don't get is why Cindy and Kris chose such desperate job choices. And I don't mean that to disparage hair and make-up stylists, or waitresses or anyone else. But Kris was a medical student who clearly had a passion for medicine. Cindy I believe was a law student. And Isa/Isaiah was Chris' roommate in college. So all three have college degrees. Two have some degree of professional training in medicine an law. I think in the story Cindy stated something about taking the LSATs a couple of times, so she may even have had another job for a couple of years while taking and re-taking the LSATs and Isaiah clearly has a post college career or job he was in before this all happen. I know Bella told them not to go back to their old lives, family and friends. But I don't take that as meaning they could not lean on and use anything learned in their past life. Kris used her medical knowledge to save Allen's son. Going back to medical school and law school would be a problem. They have not degrees in their own names and changing genders on their birth certificates and other documents would draw too much attention because they were all previously declared dead. But there are other jobs in or close to their professions where their already developed skill sets and passion would give them a leg up without being the surgeon, lawyer, or CPA who would need to provide diplomas and licenses. Kris could have been an orderly or practical nurse. Cindy could have been a paralegal. Yes these jobs would likely require IDs and bank accounts, SSNs, but so does working in a bar or hair salon these days. All employers have to take out withholding taxes and most require employees set up direct deposits. In Homecoming it said Kris bought a pretty decent ID. Chris mentions having an ID with her in her purse. So if they had IDs good enough to get the jobs they have, why would they not be good enough to get entry level jobs in fields they clearly have knowledge, skills and passion for? If you are in a hurry to reclaim some kind of life, I would think the fastest way would be to asses your innate skill sets, choose something with the closest alignment and lowest learning curve. Cindy has had to put a lot of effort into becoming a hair and make-up stylist. Perhaps it was a recent skill set from her time with Bella? Perhaps she did develop and interest or even a passion doing it in the basement? And it certainly has the secondary benefit of improving her skills for her own urban camouflage. But are those reason enough? For all the effort she seems to be barely surviving. Maybe she sees it as a less scrutinized world? In law she would have more direct engagement with people where the focus was directly on her and what she is saying to them. Where as in the hair salon the customers are looking in the mirror or focused on the gossip? IDK! And yes, Kris took the job at the full rack to troll for a victim. But we have really heard nothing of what her plan is for her future career-wise. Not that she has traded Benjy to the Cunt for hers and Allen's lives. Without knowing a lot more details, it sounds like all three came from middle, upper middle or even upper class families. Their going to college did not seem some unusual achievement and two were in professional doctoral programs that again was not presented as unusual for their family, social or economic status. I suspect they may have even been in or easily navigated around the Jock, gym bro, frat bro worlds while in college. Many of the stereotypes of cis middle class white boy life. Whether they disapproved of these worlds at the time, or whether Bella changed their perspective dramatically it is hard to really tell. It was life experience and knowledge that does not simply go away because someone has broken you. We see it pop-up when Kris is critical of the world around her. But never comes into play as assets and skill sets they can tap into for their own benefit. The "Old Boy" network still exists in certain aspects of business and the college bro life is its foundation. While neither Kris or Cindy could walk into an office and use that network they way they could have while still men. In a way they have a leg up on women from birth because know the system, the talk, the subtext, because they lived it and to a small degree their brains may still function like before, at least enough to what different things mean and what next steps are in various situations. Something cis women would be approaching and speculating about as an outsider. It also makes me wonder how one goes from Cis White Boy College Bro on way to becoming a six or seven figure professional to "Jenny on the Block". Heck it is hard to see Jennifer Lopez as "Jenny on the Block" after she made her first couple of movies and tens of millions. And she actually did grow up as a girl on the the block. I mean I love it, the action and dialog is great. But even when we are broken we don't become empty stem cells to be reprogrammed into whatever a geneticist wants us to become. Bella broke them, but the mush they became was not a blank canvas, nor can she insert thoughts, experiences and skills into a person that they never had before. She can reshape and remold the mush in front of her but she is stuck with clay as it is to her shaping. So this transition of Cindy from college bro to tough as nails street smart girl who does not sound or come off as a man when recrossing a gender stereotype is fascinating. It is also interesting, revealing and realistic that for Chris even if what is under the hood better aligns with the chassis, she still does not fully see herself as a "real girl". I think that may be a way of distinguishing between Gender Affirmation Surgery (GAS) and Sexual Reassignment Surgery (SRS). Basically the same procedure. But for purposes of this argument at least GAS is something freely chosen by someone who already sees themselves as female and just want complete in all physical aspects. As the name implies the procedure does this, if it was their choice. They thus feel more whole and complete because in their mind at least they are bringing the outside and inside into more conventional alignment. SRS, again for purposes of this argument is the same procedure but without the requirement of prerequisite of some dysphoria to be addressed by the procedure. It can be chosen for that reason but would in many cases just be called GAS. But SRS is a procedure done to someone who may or may not have chosen to of their own free will. Bella wields it like a punishment and as a gold ring on a carousel with a key to the exit to be grasped for if one dares. Cindy reached for it but it was a decision made under great duress. But it got her out of the Basement. Now she is living with the consequences of that choice. But she is at least living, something she might not have been able to sustain if she remained in the basement. But because it was not her choice none of it, the hormones, the facial and other surgery, the SRS, the forced hours of practice till perfection in make-up and other things in the basement can or will make her feel whole or real in her new body. But she is finding work around. As the old joke goes alcohol may not be the answer but it is a "solution". 😂 When she numbs the pain enough she may be able to accept the reflection in the mirror a little more easily. She seems to have also learned how to dislike a situation and still find moments of pleasure in the moment despite the situation. The question not asked is when does this go from being "the new normal" that must be accepted and adapted to, and become simply "the normal"? Can it ever. I don't think any of our characters are really in a position to know since their changes are relatively recent. I doubt they will encounter anyone who can offer years of advice and wisdom based on their own forced transition. Thankfully even in the Xuniverse kidnapping and forced gender transition are not very common. But I find the question of "how to you adapt to something a seismic as this when it was not your choice, and not amount of study and preparation before the procedures were done to them. How do you learn and master in weeks or months by yourself something that biological girls usually spend almost two decades learning in a community of supportive women (mothers, aunts older sisters, cousins, family friends and neighbors) to whatever greater or lesser degree that their own personal situation will allow. We see in Nikki from Half Sisters some of that militant resistance instinct. Much of that may have been burned out of Kris and Cindy when Bella broke them, but I think we are seeing in Cindy that what they then did was not an embrace of femininity as a new id, ego, and self identification, but but actions done to avoid punishment and gain release from the basement. And the limited human contact in the basement was far from that in the real world. I see it a bit like how do you humanize, civilize and educate children long past infancy who have been raised by wolves? And not simply get them to a point of being able to exist in society without being a danger to others or themselves, but even possibly becoming Romulus and Remus founding Rome? Of course in their case it did not hurt being the children of a deity and that the story is myth. Also not completely promising either considering Romulus killed Remus over a dispute regarding on which set of hills to build the city.

Oh, and one saved round. Cindy, that dress and those heels. Definitely needs her own pin-up in them. The angles and close-ups have their purpose in conveying the story, but we absolutely need to see that fit in all its glory.

Thanks, Diana! As always, your insights are so incredibly thorough and thoughtful. Let’s unpack the job choices first: Why hair and makeup? Why not leverage those degrees into adjacent fields like paralegal work or nursing assistance? Because Bella has not given them any identification. They could try to get fake IDs, but none of their past travels with them. They're getting the jobs they can get as young women with no formal job history or education. Plus, those jobs lean into the performative femininity Bella drilled into them. They know how to perform "service" and "beauty." It’s a survival skill they’ve mastered under duress. You also raised a fascinating point about the "mush" Bella created not being a blank slate. You are 100% correct. She can reshape the clay, but she can't remove the original minerals. That friction - between the educated, privileged men they were and the marginalized women they’ve become - is part of Bella's "thing." She likes it. And, yeah, they are feral in a way - socialized in a brutal, isolated microcosm (the basement) and then unleashed into a world they no longer understand. Can they build Rome? Maybe. Or maybe, like Romulus and Remus, the trauma will turn them against each other or themselves. Thank you! 💕

Emory Ahlberg

It really is a reciprocal rescue! Cindy thinks she’s just babysitting, but Isaiah is forcing her to acknowledge her own humanity again. She can’t be completely cynical when someone is looking at her like she holds the secrets to the universe!

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Hel! 💕 "Spite" is Cindy’s love language.

Emory Ahlberg

Wow! Thank you, Crystal. Grief is the invisible character in every room these two enter. They're grieving the people they used to be while trying to introduce themselves to the people they are now. I think finding those small pockets of joy - like cheap wine and shared trauma - is the only way to keep the (mental) lights on!

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you for sticking with me for so long, D! 💕 And thank you! Dialogue is so fun for me to write! Cindy makes it easy with her big personality, too.

Emory Ahlberg

If trans women could summon an elder god for gender affirming miracles, the world would be utterly doomed.

Emory Ahlberg

Cindy would deny having a big heart until her dying breath, but her actions betray her every time. She is a protector by nature, even if she complains about it constantly.

Emory Ahlberg

I really am enjoying writing this, despite how heavy it is. Exploring what happens after the horror movie ends is fascinating to me. And that is a beautiful point about the name.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Alyson! 💕 Cindy won't stay out of my head. Looking forward to Part 3.

Scrolling through some past Homecomings to get ready for the next Season beginning tomorrow. The cover image has been sticking with me for a little while. Then this Tennyson line came into mind. Out flew the web and floated wide – The mirror crack'd from side to side; "The curse is come upon me," cried The Lady of Shalott. - Alfred Lord Tennyson I know Homecoming is not a typical Agatha Christie murder mystery with trans characrters (though that could be an intersting device style 🤔 if only for a short or a snapshot. Mr. Marple or Ms Poirot??? 🤔🤔🤷‍♂️ ). But we do have a kind of murder mystery going on with Kriss in the middle of it. While there have been no murders "on stage" (yet) it is understood Bella and "The Cunt" can, have, and will murder people to continue their enterprise and protect it and themselves. We also have the, atleast metaphorical, "murder" of Chris, Cindy before she was Cindy, and all the other men whom Bella has kidnapt. And like Heather Babcock and Marine Gregg (Agatha Christie's The Mirror Crack'd), the disitinction between who is the villian and who is the victim may be a bit blured and intertwined. Is Kris a complicit accomplice in the pending murder of "Benji" at least as we know him? And to what extent might Kris be "murdering' Chirs, even now, to save her evolved self and id? You have shown us the images of Chris still in captivity on the TV screens. Bella did the cutting and the hormone therapy to Chris, but is Kris the one who fianlly kills Chris? Looking forward to a new season of "Agatha Ahlberg's murder mysteries". 😉 😂 ♥
