On Earth, she was a man, a killer, a weapon. New Eden made her something else.

When I wrote the original Echoes of Eve, I had no idea it would officially become a sci-fi trilogy! This one is 30 pages and 17 illustrations (I couldn't stop myself)!

Echoes of Eve: Rewilding is written by patron Alexandra, aka SynGirl - and I love what she's done with this world. My amazing friend Helena Grace expanded it beautifully with Pink Slip, and now Alexandra has taken it somewhere new again.

I wanted the art for this one to feel different - to match the tone Alexandra brought to her story. So I went back to the technique I first developed for one brief image in The Catch and later refined for Taylor Made. Basically, a Daz Studio render gives me the base for the human figures - essential for consistency because I'm not that good at drawing - but then I take the render into Procreate and Photoshop and work over the top with charcoal and color pencil brushes on my Wacom tablet. The result is a blend of render and hand-drawn 2D art that sits somewhere between illustration and comic. I hope you love it as much as I loved making it. I got a little obsessive.

I hope Rewilding finds a place in your heart the way the original found one in mine. 💕

This is quite the little series that you accidentally started. I like Alexandra's story of self discovery & rebirth for someone who lived as a military drone. She comes alive on this new world. Your art fits the story perfectly. It really does feel like an illustrated journal intended for her daughter.

I just wanted to say that I love the artwork, done with what look like pastels. It's so delicate and beautiful. It may take a while for me to read the text. I've been prescribed some weird stuff called Pregabalin Jubilant and it's dancing a fandango in my brain.

Thank you so much to Emory for letting me put my own spin on this world I love so much! I know it's a bit different, but I hope everyone here enjoys!

Aww it’s a sweet beautiful little story 💕

💖 Thank you, Zoe! I had so much fun making the art and writing the little captions for Alexandra's story... then the final panel made me teary.

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much, Pet! I had a fantastic time making the art for Alexandra's story. The new technique was a challenge, but I love how it turned out. Can't wait to hear the rest of your comments when you get a chance to read it!

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you, Jade! 💕 I made myself teary with the last panel.

I will probably read the text file, without images, on a kindle device. It would be good if a version were available with the images in the text, but without the large images at the end. Such a version would probably have few enough bytes to email to my kindle library, complete with images. The episodes of The Catch, for example, emailed to kindle without difficulty.

SynGirl

I cried as well when Emory first showed me the final panel 🥹

Superb story, SynGirl. A wonderful addition to the idyllic world that Emory has created.

Lovely story, SynGirl, and beautiful art, Emory. I'm honestly captivated by this style... have been ever since you created Michael's "get well" card for Atonia. I can only imagine how time-consuming it must be to create a single panel in this style—you start with a Daz render then massage it in Procreate and Photoshop before applying charcoal and color pencil brushstrokes manually on your tablet... times seventeen! And when you finished with that, you added the barely noticeable captions that are the final touches bringing your art to life. Obviously, I love them.

There's an easy way you can make this small enough to load onto your Kindle, Pet. There are several online apps that remove PDF pages and/or compress files. ILovePDF is a good one: https://www.ilovepdf.com/remove-pages . I just dragged and dropped the file onto this page, X'd out the final 16 pages from the list of pages, hit the "Remove Pages" button, then downloaded the result. The file was reduced from 129MB to 49MB. Still too big? You can compress the file further by selecting "Continue to... Compress File", hit the "Compress PDF" button, then download the result. The file should now be reduced from 49MB to 7MB, and while there may be some degradation in quality, I guarantee it won't be noticeable, especially on a Kindle's small screen. Hope this helps.

I started to read the text file last night. But, owing to my medication, I'm reading even slower than usual. I'm enjoying it, but it's too early to comment further, apart from this... Surely, "feign for myself" (immediately before "3 months later") should read "fend for myself".

Pet Jeffery

Thank you for that, Tim. I'll consider it in due course. Just now, my prescription of Pregabalin Jubilant is doing very strange things to my head. What might normally be simple and straightforward instructions currently seem esoteric lore that only an initiate into the innermost circle of tech could grasp.

SynGirl

Darn it, that is on my end, thank you for noticing Edit: wait no that does read as "fend"

Emory Ahlberg

Oops! I caught it on the panels but not in the text file! I’ll re-upload a corrected text file 😊

I'm not much of a spiritualist and I'd be too much of a bore for the wicca, but there is something about the divine feminine that I am envious of. I want it. I want motherhood and sisterhood, and that want runs through me like an electrical charge. A fantastic pairing of story and art, that charcoal and pencil look matching the prose's "of the earth" quality. Aliya is such a great character, and her journey to self-actualize for the first time in her life is deeply felt. Speaking to the Echoes of Eve trilogy, I've really enjoyed how each story has built off the implications of the previous entry. The broken med droid becomes the mutiny becomes Aliya's part in it. It's very satisfying watching it all unfold and getting to see all these different voices share in this world. I'll never say no to more stories in this universe. Beautiful art as always, Emory, and what a wonderful, heartfelt story SynGirl! <3

Beautiful story Emory 🥰

SynGirl

Hii! I'm the one who wrote this, but I do agree Emory's art is great!

Emory Ahlberg

I'm so glad you like SynGirl's story, Omaga! It was my honor to make the art. 💕

Emory Ahlberg

Thank you so much, Tim! 💕 Yes, this takes much longer than a "raw" render since that's only the base. But as I was reading SynGirl's story, I couldn't get the idea that this should be a "letter" written to her daughter, illustrated by herself (since the story is telling us that she learned to draw) - there was almost no way I could've used my usual style! It just didn't feel right. So, yeah, big challenge... but a lot of fun. I'll probably use the technique again in the future!

Pet Jeffery

I finished reading the story this morning. From Aliyah's rebirth in the pool onwards, I was crying. I hadn't expected such a powerful evocation of the divine feminine. Since then, I've gone back to the pdf document and looked again at the artwork. And, as I reabsorbed the later pictures, I felt a swelling within me. The last picture is of happy tears. My tears were not exactly happy ones. They were, more nearly, the awe as I approach a goddess. There may, too, be sadness, in the knowledge that I can never cradle life within me. But, above all, there is humble marvelling at the creation of life. This takes us beyond the earlier episodes of Echoes of Eve; it is a profound and moving journey.
