Maxwell Fiedel

What experimental gear do you use at home?

Earl Carlson

As your process has evolved, what’s stayed true to your workflows. What are the integral parts of the way you make music? With so many years of making under your belt, what are things that excite you now in making music?

Mikeeeeeeeeeee

So many of my favorite songs of yours have these softer, orchestral elements, but then give way to a more club oriented feel, or vice versa. When making these songs, do you often start with the drums/beat sections as a backbone or do you start with the softer melodic sections and work your way up? In short, what is your approach when starting to compose these songs? Thank you!

James Burton

What does your master bus contain (plug ins ) when a track is ready for the mixdown?

Charlie Thacker

How do you integrate hardware and software tools in your writing process?

Charlie Thacker

What’s the most unlikely/ strangest thing you’ve sampled on a track?

Aaron Edwards

You are very good at evolving one experience into another within a song both musically and sonically. "Otomo" is an example that comes to mind where two completely different styles of music come together to form an entirely new experience. In your own creative process, is there a specific set of tools / techniques that you lean heavily on to help make those transitions between the different sections of music work so well?

Nathan

Do you write with the live show in mind? Or do you write freely then adapt the music to work with the instruments available in the live show?

Baardman

Do you have any advice for small artists trying to reach good/big labels and breakthrough?

MJC

Hi Simon, love the music, why did you originally choose the name Bonobo?

Pluto William

I find myself coming up a beat or verse or chorus I like but unsure how to build out an arrangement, a full song. How do you approach expanding on an initial idea? Do you find the bass line first? Movement in the drums? (Black Sands got me through college. TY)

MVICE

Huge fan! I would love to know your mix down process and how you properly balance a mix in preparation for mastering.

JC C.

There is clear cohesiveness in the music universe you created. How do you find / make / engineer / prepare your sounds and how do you ensure it all sounds cohesive?

VDMR

AWESOME! I would love to know what VSTs and plugins he's loving at the moment and how he starts tracks before even thinking about the arrangement.

Michał Bąk

do you have a daily routine of making music? if so, how it looks like?

Juho Nurmela

What's your philosophy on using reverb? Has it changed over time? Do you approach it differently when working with samples versus live instruments? How many reverbs do you typically use per track? Do you have any favorites?

Dario Monet

do you have any musical training background? what's the creative process?

Dario Monet

tips about arranging a musical idea?

Dario Monet

best practices to get in touch with labels and get published?

OVERSEA – THE WAVEGARDEN

What is your process to bring your track to a Live environnement, while still keeping as much freedom as possible?

Pluto William

Would love to hear Bonobo answer this! Great question

William Card

Would love to learn more about Simon's approach to collaboration! So many of the vocalists and instrumentalists on Fragments brought such dynamism to the record. I'm interested to hear how he approaches co-writes, and if the process is different between his more dance-floor oriented tracks (ex. "Fold" with Jacques Greene) versus album tracks (ex. "Tides" with Jamila Woods).

Axis Drift

Your music feels deeply connected to nature, evoking space and introspection. How do you balance the solitude and creative patience needed to develop such music with the demands of performing and touring? Do you ever struggle with self-doubt or the fear of external judgment, and how do you stay true to your creative journey while navigating the tension between internal purpose and the opinions of others? Huge fan and you're such an inspiration to me, thank you!

Richard Weller

Do you miss your old creative process behind albums like Animal Magic - digging for obscure record samples, being limited by the technology at the time etc. Do you still go 'digging' in £1 record bins? :-) I remember being very inspired by a Computer Music Magazine production session you recorded when you made 'Kiara'

William Chason

How do you view mixing in the context of a home listener and the club different? Do you need to make changes in the mix or instruments make something work in either environment?

Diego Laje

Four Tet mentioned in his recent interview the importance of the track arrangement to keep a loop alive and the audience engaged. How do you approach the arrangement of your tracks in this sense?
