So, I used my podcast app to listen to the show, so I never noticed until someone online pointed this out recently. The AI photos on the website make me uncomfortable, especially the William Tyrell Part 1 one of a child in a Spider-Man costume. Any thoughts on whether this is necessary? Using generative AI doesn't feel very Casefile to me.

Hi. Two questions on William Tyrrell. First is, given this case is still getting a lot of public attention through media, prime time TV, Dan Box's podcast, Gary Jubekin book and podcasts, what made you think the time was right to cover this case now? Second question. In part 1 you left us on a knife edge saying some vital info was to be forthcoming at the coroner's inquest until COVID shut it down. Was this provided at the final inquest?

Trent S

Hi I have two questions for the team, 1st will you do a show in New Zealand? We need you! And second if the GPO girl seemingly didn’t get any financial benefits from her crimes what do you think is the most likely reason she just kept up that behaviour?? Thanks, love the show!!!

Ruben Swanepoel

Question: I thought it was really interesting that you included the Yowie theory in the William Tyrell case. Have there been any other obscure or abstract theories that you've discovered whilst researching Cases?

Catherine

Hi Casefile team. First up the GPO girl case was definitely one of the craziest cases of identity theft/fraud I've heard of. What interested you in covering a case like this? Second, I always enjoy your coverage of Australian cases, do you think in the future you will ever cover some big cases like the Wieambilla police shooting or the recent Erin patterson mushroom murders? Or do you find with the large media attention they have gotten, you're reluctant to cover them? Thanks for all your hard work to bring these cases to us! 😊

Alex M

When you have to use pseudonyms for a case, such as in the William Tyrell case, how do you pick the names?

Da Guru Bro

Being a middle aged Australian, how I had never heard anything of the GPO girl astounds me. Secondly, I was cheating on Casefile the weekend just gone and was at a live podcast show of another true crime podcast. They dropped a secret spoiler of a new Casefile presents show they have teamed up to produce about an American inmate/conman. I have to say having heard all about this case during the live show, this is going to make an amazing Casefile Presents series, very exciting. Given how respected Casefile is as a brand and the status it has in the podcast universe. How do you go about selecting what you will and wont publish under the Casefile Presents name?

Brett_T

Hi Team, When researching a case, where do you find the most reliable information, I’d assume from police files, if so are they easy to access? Thanks to all of you for the quality work you publish.

Ben O'Connell

I'm interested to know; will you only ever cover cases where a crime has been committed? Would you consider cases where a lengthy, large scale criminal investigation is ran with the outcome being either: - the missing person is eventually found and death is deemed to be accidental - The deceased was not reported missing but is discovered under mysterious circumstances involving suspected foul play, but the death is eventually ruled to be the result of misadventure (or things of that nature) Appreciate the morbid question but I do find the mystery element of cases captivating!

Susan Rachel

The GPO girl case is fascinating. What are your thoughts on sentencing for someone who commits crimes like this?

Demi V

I noticed comments are disabled for the original Kalil episode and the one for the main feed and I don't think I see that often. What typically prompts you to disable comments? Is it like a proactive "nothing good will be said here" or after something occurs that makes further discussion productive? I've also noticed this on older Spotify episodes, which I tend to re-listen to during breaks because I kind of like the commercials sometimes 😅

C

No question, just love the choice of cases lately. Wanted to drop a quick thank you.

With the Khalil case, I think it was fair for the FBI to investigate him. but once it became clear that he wasn't a thread and that he was trying to de-radicalise the under cover agent, they should have dropped it. Is there any consequence for the FBI continuing to pursue him? Had he not had the support of his community he likey would have been convicted and sentenced for a very long time. A bad outcome for him and society.

Devil Ray Charles

More of a general question; but have you guys considered using AI software to re-produce the older episodes with the lower quality audio?

AR

if memory serves, the original Kalil episode generated a few Islamophobic comments that had to be shut down. It's been a while, though, so I could be thinking of a different episode. Unfortunately, sometimes the Patreon commenters aren't always respectful.

AR

Agreed, this bothers me as well. I know other true crime productions have gotten criticism for using AI-generated photos because they get mistaken for photos related to the case, and the AI-generated people get mistaken for being real images of the people involved. In any case, it seems like a really alienating choice, given how many people are opposed to the use of generative AI on principle due to the litany of moral/ethical/environmental concerns surrounding it.

After listening to the William Tyrell episodes I really thought I would have an opinion on what happened but I just don’t. Originally I had assumed Garry Jubelin had been on to something but now I feel less sure. Then with the news being released that the foster parents were investigated last year, I assumed, from how the media reported it, the case would pick up momentum again and they would be looked at. But it feels like a case of the more you know, the less you know with William. It’s such a sad case, the death of a little boy gets lost in the drama (not to mention ending the policing career of the county’s most well known cops). Not really a question but would love to hear how other people with an interest in the case feel.

Hi Casey, cases like William Tyrrell's sadden but intrigue me deeply because the body hasn't been found. Like the dissapearance of Susan Powell (cold podcast s1) i find myself looking for news on the internet from time to time, or even looking on Google streetview in places where police searched or when the victim was last seen (hope im not the only crazy one doing this). My question is, what is your and your team's theory about what happened, and are there other cases without a body that pop into your mind from time to time? Sending love for the whole crew, keep up doing the good work!

Connor Z

For the GPO Girl, other than goin to prison for 1 or 2 years at a time, what methods could be used to keep her from committing crimes, especially ones that might endanger other people's children? The threat of prison doesn't seem to alter her behavior at all.

Nico Saaranen

Are there any cases you've covered from the US that you think would've had different outcomes in Australia?

Mr Chips

I want to give kudos to whoever is compiling the Casefile spreadsheet that is posted on this show’s subreddit. Have you guys seen it? Do you know who updates it? Also what level of involvement do you all have with social media accounts for Casefile? Also, your latest releases have been exceptionally well-done! Thank you for all your hard work. There are some commenters who seem to post opinions that to me seem to be for rage baiting. Please ignore those comments and focus on the positive feedback! Amazing job everyone. Much love from Texas!

Mr Chips

There are some recent cases that fit those categories: 238: Kris Kremers & Lisanne Froon 300: Tegan Lane 303: Duncan MacPherson 317: Thomas Perez 321: Vincent Viafore Some older cases in the same vein: 02: Somerton Man 51: Tina Watson 88: Stephen Hilder 133: Tom & Eileen Lonergan 136: Azaria Chamberlain

Mr Chips

I have to say based on Cases 322 and 323, that the Australian legal system frustrates me beyond anything else. I don’t understand the lenient sentences given to GPO girl, the lack of rehabilitation or treatment. Also, regarding the child protective services in William Tyrell’s case.. why on earth did they permanently remove the kids from their bio family just because their parents had a history of fighting? Does the system there not value the reunification of children with their natural parents? Separating children from their parents like that is proven to cause more harm! P.S. I am a licensed social worker in the United States.

Paris89London

Love love love the show. Thank so much for all you do in creating this for us. Is there any update on potential rewind episodes?

Maressa Calder

Do you think the William Tyrell was hampered by tunnel vision from the Strike Force team? Detective Jubelin spent so much time and money on one suspect, and now that he’s gone, the Strike Force has focused on William’s foster mother.

Maressa Calder

Not a question, but what happened to Khalil Ryyan shows that you never know who you are talking to over the internet. The investigation/entrapment by the FBI shows how impressionable and trusting people can be, especially youth.

Maressa Calder

GPO Girl - Do you think there is something lacking in legality when it comes to deciding that someone like Samantha is mentally ill, but capable of living independently? She knows what she is doing is wrong, but she also can’t stop herself from repeating the same actions over and over and over again. Do you think she is technically a danger to herself and others?

Kat

Just wanted to say a huge thank you for all the hard work you guys do. Really enjoy this podcast. Not sure if you’re able to answer this question but based on all the information you came across while compiling the William Tyrrell podcast, what do you think most likely happened to him? Such a sad story for all involved. Thanks again

Chris Hensch

Do you guys think that William Tyrrell was abducted by a stranger?

Ernesto Ortiz

Hello crew great job as usual! I have a question about the William Tyrell case. You guys might have mentioned it and I possibly missed it but did Frank Abbott live close to where the young boy was last seen? I know it was a small town but how close was this man to Williams Foster grandmother's home? Thanks again and I apologize if you guys indeed covered this. Cheers!

Tayla R

My question echos one of Kevin’s - does the team use generative AI for images on the website?

Corinna

GPO Girl - This is a great episode that had me captivated the whole time! Well done. Truly a bizarre case and Samantha is such an enigma. She has the hallmarks of a con artist but with unique motivations that make her saga so perplexing. Thank you for diving into what's known (and not known) about her crimes, history, and psychology. You answered a lot of my questions, but a few more for Erin and the team if you have time: Why do you think GPO girl, as a serial offender who clearly isn't deterred by her convictions, continues to get short sentences with seemingly lax counseling or rehab requirements? Did you find anything about whether she has to pay restitution to establishments or families she's affected? Also, what were the main head scratchers for you as you worked on this and came across all the mystery surrounding her? Separately, just a note to say I’ve really enjoyed and found new favorites in the episodes you've put out this year. Thank you for the consistently excellent podcast and all the amazing work the team puts into it!

Corinna

J. Chips, +1 to the latest releases being on point!

BJ Judge

Will Casey &/or any of the writers be at CrimeCon this year? If so, would you be interested in getting a group together for drinks or just to hang out for a bit?

Casefile

Hello. Apologies, but we recorded the episode before this question came in. Unfortunately no one from the Casefile team will be attending Crime Con this year. We will keep everyone updated if we attend again in the future.

BJ Judge

Thx for letting me know! I was able to meet Casey & Olivia LaVoice last year & was hoping he & maybe a few of the writers would be back this year. This is the only episodic pod I listen to & one of only 2 that I support. I absolutely ❤️ it! Keep up the great work & I’ll be keeping fingers crossed for a possible CrimeCon appearance next year 😉

Stephanie Low

Hi! I created and own the casefile spreadsheet. Just started off as a hobby that sort of took off and I've kept it up for the last ~7-8 years :) I'm not otherwise affiliated with Casefile, just a fan.
