Hello Patreon, the team is getting ready to record another Q&A. If you have any questions for any member of the team, type them in the comments. This is a general Q&A and does not have to be related to Casefile episodes. We will be answering all your questions about the Zodiac series in the seperate Behind The Files episode. Thank you!

PJ

Have Casey and the producers/researchers for the Zodiac series seen the Clint Eastwood “Dirty Harry” movies? I grew up watching them on HBO and didn’t know much about the Zodiac case till your series. So much of it is a straight lift from the crimes!

Lyman Green

Hi team! Has the team got any favorite Australian movie/s! I’m looking to expand my movie day (sundays) and watch some Australian movies. Preferably not big mainstream movies which already have made their way into the global movie market but I’ll take whatever!

Kate Armstrong

Hi team! I’ve got 3 questions 1. For Casey - has anyone IRL recognised or seemed to recognise your voice from the podcast? 2. For writers/producers/researchers - generally what was your background before you started working for casefile? Was it related (research/journalism/similar) or was this sort of thing just a passion? 3. Are you planning to re-record/take down the Frankston Serial Killer episodes? I know she now identifies as Paula and her dead name is used in the episode - and a recent Behind the Files episode.

Eli Manning

Not a question but would love episodes on these ones: The amityville murders/Lutz family Robert Picton Jon benet Ramsey

TN Melbourne

Not a question however I’d really like you to have an episode about the murder of Thomas Cooper on the 18th August 1980 at Ricketts Point (a beach car park in bayside Melbourne) Beaumaris, Victoria, Australia. It was referred to as the Cowboy hat killer and the Lovers’ Lane killer it has largely been forgotten although in August 2020, on the 40th anniversary, there was a $1 million AUD reward offered but I’ve never heard of any updates.

Neil A.

Few questions: - Do you have a legal team? How often do you have to cut speculation out of the episodes? Or, as it is a podcast, can you just say anything? - Have your ever been contacted by a perpetrator of the cases directly? Or family members etc? - Also Casey I heard you once talk about NFL - which team do you support?

Pip Franke

Hello Casefile team! I was wondering if the plan to remake case 30, the Claremont Serial Killer, was still planned or not! I really enjoyed the episodes when they were available, and would love to get the latest on the case, Casefile-style.

Demi V

Do you have someone you have to check with to make sure covering a case won't impact the investigation? Do you ever talk to someone and they suddenly say "can't mention that, it's not public knowledge" or that covering a case may let someone know the police are onto them? Especially with Casey's work recently for Crime Interrupted, it sounds like you have some good law enforcement contacts so you may accidentally get some confidential details.

Daniel Evans

Given your content is so well written, have you considered releasing an annual book of the previous year’s episodes. Great opportunity to reuse all the hard work you put into researching and writing. Could also add photos, maps, other items of relevance to the cases. Thanks, Dan

Rose Cook

Hello Casfile team! I was wondering if you usually ask permission from the victim or victim's family or contact the family to let them know when you do an episode on their case? Like for the Janet Chandler case or similar cases.

Ross Wilson

A few questions for Casey. You mentioned in a previous Q&A that you were an NFL fan - if you support a team how did you end up doing so? I find it interesting how overseas NFL fans decide on their team. And do you and have any favourite players past or present?

Conor Harmon

Hi casefile team. Just wondering do you have any Irish crimes you’re working on or thinking about in the future? The Trevor Deely case has always been a fascinating mystery to me. Likewise Philip Cairns & Ireland's Vanishing Triangle. The Scissor Sisters is also a very interesting case… Love the pod! Thanks Conor.

Linde

Hey! I have a few questions 1. How are you guys doing? 2. Are you planning to cover some cases from the Netherlands?

Cathy

I recently read some criticism about the podcast where people said that they didn’t like how you sometimes tell a crime in the perspective of a victim when that victim died, so people criticised that you couldn’t know what exactly that victim was thinking or doing. What do you have to say about that?

Emily

Do any of the team have kids? Do they know about the content of your work and what do they think of it?

Daniel Cook

Can you do more historic cases too like from hundreds of years ago?

Amie

First off I love you guys. Case file is by far my favorite podcast. Would you consider writing up the Dorothea Puente story? Thanks for all your hard work!

Vincent

Are you allowed to tell us what was the most downloaded/listened to episode of 2021? Do listener figures influence your decision as to whether you will cover one type of case/crime over others?

Heather

How much longer until the Snowtown episode comes back???

misery

would you guys ever revisit some of the super early cases such as the wanda beach murders?

Bob Trenwith

Try "The Dish" and "Strictly Ballroom"

Taylor Nelson

I’m not sure if it’s mainstream or not but Muriel’s Wedding is one of my absolute faves.

Paul Xerri

Will you do an episode on OJ Simpson or Oscar Pristorius?

Patrick

Well done for a great show. I was wondering that as you continue to evolve and amass an impressive library of episodes from past and present, does it become more challenging to uncover interesting and maybe lesser known cases such as the recent one on Janet Chandler? Also, on a completely different note, what is your favourite cheese?

AR

Picnic at Hanging Rock is a must-see! Walkabout by Nicholas Roeg is also very good, very kinda psychedelic film about a walkabout! It's a little dark, but Wake In Fright is a phenomenal underrated film with incredible performances, and it's such a great way of understanding, like, the psychology of the Outback? If you're feeling really bleak you might follow it up with Snowtown (Casefile ep 19) for a whole cocktail of outback psychological nightmare fuel. I second Strictly Ballroom, that movie is wonderful and I could watch it every day for the rest of my life. If you're here for true crime I'm assuming you've already seen Heavenly Creatures and Wolf Creek (loosely based on Casefile ep 109) but if you haven't then those are also must-sees! For other Oz true crime stories, try A Cry in the Dark, which dramatizes the 'dingo's got my baby' case (Casefile ep 136) and In Her Skin, which dramatizes the case of Rachel Barber (Casefile ep 112). For something much lighter: It's pretty mainstream, but if you've never seen Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, that's a total classic, and wonderful, and Guy Pearce and Hugo Weaving *and* Terence Stamp are all in it! Dark City is a classic sci-fi/urban fantasy film that always gets compared to the Matrix because it came out the same year, but not a lot of people have seen it? It's fantastic.

AR

This maybe isn't a question for the Q&A, or maybe it is, but it's something I wonder about all the time? In the very beginning of the show, did you guys do an episode about a transgender man who immigrates from Italy to Australia in the early 20th century, is harassed on the journey, marries a woman and later murders her by pushing her off a cliff? Did I completely hallucinate the existence of this episode? I get that it's a very difficult story to tell because of the issues with his secrecy and his true identity, but it was SUCH a fascinating story and i wonder about it all the time. As a nonbinary journalist I'd be happy to help do a rewrite of it sometime if there's any interest — providing i didn't make the whole episode up, I guess?????

Lyman Green

Thanks fellow listeners. I’ve seen some of those movies and not others.

Mr Chips

The crimes were committed before she transitioned, so I think it is completely appropriate to leave it as it is.

Mr Chips

A couple questions from your pal Chips... 1. One of the best aspects of your podcast, and what makes it one of the finest productions in the industry, is the musical score. How did you manage to find Mike Migas and pitch the show? 2. I re-listened to all the cases from the very first one, I hope that one day we can get an episode written in a more casual and conversational way like the older ones. Do you have any plans on doing an episode on "Updates" from previous cases? 3. I want to thank the whole team for being unapologetically yourself and your own style. I have been listening to your show since the very start in 2016 and I feel like I have grown along with the show. As we see your fanbase grow, please do not feel that you have to change your show to adapt to the demands of fans. You keep it original and Aussie!

Anthony Stipelcovich

I think the lady whose baby supposedly was taken by a dingo was a lying publicity seeking, murderer.

Maya George

I have a question for the team: if you wake up with a hangover, what are you having the next day to help recover?? Also, if there are non alcoholic drinkers in the team, what’s your go to comfort food?? :)

Maya George

Would anyone on the team have a go at stand up comedy?? What kind of things would you like to make jokes about, do you think??

Glyn Rackett

I’m new to the Patreon platform and I would like to know why the Casefile host remains anonymous?

AR

you might well change your mind once you listen to the casefile episode on the case!

AR

he's said often that he wants the focus to remain on the victims and their families and not on him. but he'll always be "Casey" to us!

CSJ

Mind blown! I haven’t seen these films but have added incentive now 😍

CSJ

Just seeing this now - a few favs of mine are Chopper (LOVE Eric Bana), Two Hands and The Babadook ❤️

PJ

Yes! Check out 1971s Dirty Harry. The “Scorpio Killer” writing letters and codes and stuff. It’s a whole thing
