Hello Patreon, it is that time again to submit your questions for the general Q&A. Whether they are Casefile related, general true crime related, or totally unrelated to Casefile and true crime - you can ask them in the comments!

Sarah McRae

Could you please cover the case of Edward Baldock? I haven't seen very much about this case and found it quite intriguing when I learnt about it, especially as someone who has lived in Brisbane

Jessica Able

You may have been asked this before, but I'm curious what would be the cold case or mystery you'd like to see solved? If you have answered this before, has your answer changed?

Jessica Able

Most like to see solved, I should clarify.

Alvin Yarbrough

How much research do you, Casey, do for the podcast? Do you look for cases to cover? Have any recommendations on edits for those written by others? Also, is the crime interrupted podcast finished? I really enjoyed those.

Hello from the Somewhat United States! This one’s mostly for Casey, but I’d love to hear from the others: I know you’re into punk and metal, but I’m curious how you feel about the band Midnight Oil? Their lead singer has the distinction of being not only a musician and activist, but also was a member of the Australian Parliament! (Good on ya’ mate!) Alas, my knowledge of Australian music is rather lacking, but I’m also curious your feelings on Colin Hay/Men at Work. Cheers!

Thank you so much for this fantastic podcast! Recently I found myself going back to listen to earlier podcasts and I am just as entertained. Writing, narration and sound are spot on! I have a multi part question. This recent release episode had sound bites added which I loved and really added to the story. When I was listening to older episodes that happened quite alot but then seemed to fade out. Was this because sound quality of sound bites weren't that good? Were the sound bites hard to source? One that springs to mind is Sherri Rasmussen and the interview the police had with her murderer. My ear was glued to hear what she would say. Is this something you are bringing back? Either way...love to hear how you guys decided to add the clips into the podcast this week. Always waiting for my patreon notification for new material!

This is a question, mainly inspired by JasonInHell episode - is there a reason behind including/not including the 9-1-1 call and other external media in other episodes? I would love to hear more of it and I feel it really connects you more to the case. I know you have done it before but it is few and far between.

Renee

Hello Casefile Team My question is Do you prefer Australian crime or do you prefer other countries like us in the US ? I appreciate all you do and all the hard work you put into the episodes Thanks Renee

Joseph Iacona

I've always enjoyed writing but sometimes can find it overwhelming to decide how to start. How do you compile all of the information and research related to a case and then ultimately choose the best way to present it as a narrative? Do you write parts as you go or wait until all research has been finished? I'd imagine this process would need to be done very efficiently given how many cases you cover.

Stefan Bradley

Loved the recent cases with Alison and Franca surviving their terrible ordeals and changing lives and society. Will you do more stories with inspirational survivors?

Cerys B

Hi Casefile team! I'd firstly like to say thank you- in your Bernd Brandes/Armin Meiwes episode, you mentioned the band Rammstein writing a song inspired by the events. I went and listened... and they're now one of my favourite bands :-) My question is about language. Do you ever have to double check if a word is widely understood outside of Australia, or translate a bit of Aussie slang to make the narration accessible to international listeners?

Ross Wilson

Hi team. Some podcast related questions. How long does it take to make a typical episode, from case suggestions and research through to final publication? Also are there any particularly busy periods for you during the year, or does the one episode a week format allow you to have a relatively even workload? On a different topic, here in Scotland one of the local TV channels has a lot of Australian and NZ crime dramas and documentaries available to stream. Are there that you can think of that you would recommend? Likelihood is some of them will be on the list. Thanks.

Storme

What’s another podcast you enjoy?

Patrick

You sound like a tight-knit team but I guess like any workplace there can be pressure to meet deadlines and get the shows out. How do you deal with this? And bonus question: who has the most annoying habit in the team?!

Demi V

What's next in the world of Casefile Presents? Does the team at Casefile work on both Casefile original content and Casefile Presents episodes and, if so, how do you prioritize the work to ensure all the deadlines are met? This year has been fantastic this year for all the Casefile content!

Daniel O'Reilly

I know you’ve said on a previous AMA episode you’d be happy to cover more cases from Ireland so I’m gonna recommend a couple, the murder of Raonaid Murray(unsolved) and also Dean Lyon’s/Mark Nash On a non crime related note, Casey, have you ever listened to the Irish punk band Chewie? (previously known as Chewing on Tinfoil)

Flem Candango

I recently heard a band that I think Casey would enjoy. Pop-punk isn't my thing, but I think it's his from what I remember? Anyway. I saw Joyce Manor in concert recently and enjoyed it a bunch, despite it not being a genre I generally listen to. I also have a question: Has Casey been approached to do any voice over work for commercials, or some other project outside of Casefile? I would love to randomly hear him do a movie trailer: "In a world, where nothing is as it seems...." etc etc etc.

What happened to the obituaries podcast

Nico Saaranen

Casey, how long have you been doing BJJ? What's your game/style like?

Mark Ofmalovia

You have a very Aussie staff (Mike and Pauline acknowledged). Have you thought of recruiting international writers and researchers to help with overseas content?

Alexander

Not a question but there’s a YouTube channel called That Chapter which I think could provide you guys with some interesting cases to cover. Probably for the shorter eps. Cases like the SD card killer, Chandler Halderson (similar to that case in Canada I think where a college student of Asian descent kept lying to her family and spun out of control), Jeffrey Pyne, Austin Harrouff (who’s family ignored his mental health problems and he went on to have a psychotic episode), Broken Arrow killings.

Maressa Calder

Do you think Ruth Bennett sent Andrew Fitzherbert to Kathleen Marshall’s house so he would be seen at her house and leave DNA, so that she could commit the crime, or do you think she sent him to do her dirty work and he was dumb enough to do it?

Sanna Pöri-Tikkakoski

Would you consider doing an episode on Lyn Dawson once her husband's trial is over?

Victoria Driver

Hi Casey, what made you want to start the podcast? Have you always had an interest in true crime?

Saraneth

Casey, have you ever listened to the Fall of Civilization podcast? It’s got a Dan Carlin feel to it and is very well done.

izette

I’m wondering what questions the team would like to be asked. When you made the call to introduce these Q&As, were there particular aspects of the podcast you’d love to be asked about? Do any of you geek out on processes or elements that you’d find us as listeners wouldn’t really ask about?

jesschiller

Hi Team Hope you're all going well 😊 After to listening to the recent 2-part episode of the Blackout Killers, I was wondering if the Casefile team would ever consider developing a separate series or even just a huge multi-part episode on WW2 and the atrocities of the nazi party/Hitler/Goebbels etc. I know its a massive topic and has also been covered countless times.. I just really take in the information you guys present with the careful flow of the narration and the dedicated attention to detail, provided in the research, that I feel you could cover this type of thing in a way no one else has.

Megan

I missed this post so I hope I’m not too late. Is there a master list of books used for case research/recommended by the Casefile team anywhere?

Anna Mills

Hi Casey, do you or anybody on the Casefile team watch F1? My favorite driver, Daniel Ricciardo, is Australian and I wonder if he’s much of a celebrity there.

Casefile

Thank you for the suggestion Alexander, we will check it out!
