In this release of Second System, it is now possible to use the Spotify application (Windows 7 and up) and the Rockstar Games Launcher (best experience on Windows 8 and up). Various improvements and fixes have been made to the GDI32 wrapper to ensure improved stability in Vulkan and D3D12 applications on Windows 7 and below, which will allow the Vulkan backend of llama.cpp to run. More D3D12 news will be announced soon.An issue with the Firefox offline installer not launching Firefox properly on Windows 7 has been resolved.New dependencies in the latest versions of the Discord app and Adobe Lightroom have also been resolved. To accomodate Spotify on Windows 8.x (and future WinRT/UWP demands), it was made possible to add custom WinRT activation factories using HKCU\Software\LSC\SecondSystem\RoActivationFactories. The official method of adding WinRT factories relies on a registry key that can only be modified by TrustedInstaller in normal conditions.A 32bit uiautomationcore wrapper has been added on Windows 8.1 after reports that it was needed for some versions of GTA IV to run.

Could you please tell how to install that modified newer Intel HD4000 Integrated Graphics driver on Second System? It works only on Extended Kernel

Andrey

Thanks, but that is 2012 driver. I already have it installed. I asked about the newer one.

hi! do you have some kind of introduction page? i am new here, just found out about this project and i must say, it looks pretty cool! has someone covered it on youtube perhaps? how's software compatibility going for windows vista? i know the extended kernel project has been dropped a few years ago.

win32

Not as such, but Second System does run many new applications on Windows Vista including Steam, Google Chrome, Firefox, llama.cpp, Photoshop 2025, Kdenlive 25 and other Qt 6.x applications. I also have produced patches for NVIDIA GTX 10xx/16xx and RTX 20xx/30xx compatible drivers and for Haswell+ support.

win32

You may be able to patch the .sys of this newer driver to use pwp_ntos.exe from the NVIDIA driver patcher. Are you familiar with CFF Explorer?

Andrey

I've no idea what you're talking about.

Hi. Is this project available offline? In other words, does it require a Patreon subscription, or is it standalone? I want to subscribe to download it, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to pay for the subscription every month.

win32

You only need to subscribe once to download Second System and the other LSC patches. You will have the current versions of those products and they will never "deactivate".

Alright I wanna ask something. So I ran Windows 7 now and not Vista (Because well as much as I liked Vista, 7 is just more usable.) Anyway, I am trying to install Clip Studio Paint using second system. I have seen by trying to start an already installed version from another Windows drive of mine, and it does.. sorta start. It gets to its start window before just crashing. And as for trying to directly install it, its install wizard just crashes before actually getting to the install portion. (It seems to be just install shield and not something custom) So, is it possible for me to request that you could try and look into this and make clip studio paint work under second system? (I am trying version 5.0.2, and the oldest Windows I tried a modern Clip Studio Paint on was Windows 8.1 which actually was still supported by CSP 4)

win32

I believe I had resolved the InstallShield issue (unless they stopped using issetup.dll and thus undoing my fix), but I only had access to a very old GPU when testing the program itself. I'll try again soon on newer hardware running Windows 7.

Hey Im planning to subscribe again. I'd just like to ask two things: With the new 3.0 update is it possible to enable secondsystem on a per-application basis just like vxkex can, and with the numerous dwrite and qt patches, can modern iTunes finally work? Best regards

win32

You can disable Second System by default on applications using by creating a REG_SZ value named "DefaultProfile" in HKCU\Software\LSC\SecondSystem and setting it to "Passive". The right-click menu options have been replaced by a small application that identifies the current configuration status of the target application, accessible via "Second System Config". I am not sure about iTunes. I believe they went to some sort of appx distribution and possibly UWP, which isn't something that I have fully resolved yet.

So I'm also having issues with steam not launcing properly, it will launch but its buggy and slow and also downloads don't work properly. I have also noticed rufus does not work either as well as Spotify. And I still can't surpmimum to get to function properly either. Im also seemingly to have issues with the programs native install Firefox, greenshot and notepad++ when second system is installed.

win32

I can confirm that Rufus is now having issues (in addition to Supermium, which should still be usable in "Shell" mode or disabled outright), but can't replicate for anything else. Notepad++ is a bit of an exception, due to the use of DirectWrite features not yet available in DirectWriteCore, so it is recommended to use in "Win10NoDWrite" mode or "Shell" mode depending on the running system. I should be able to fix the Rufus and Supermium issues soon, and if I can get more information on the type of issues that are occurring with Spotify, Firefox and Greenshot, that should help quite a bit.

Alright thank you, I will have time to do testing later today. And get back to you. Is there a way I can directly message you?

Ibsan

would roblox be possible with second system? on windows vista the game installs but the player complains that vista isn't supported, and studio just crashes

Navi Tentan

No matter what I could do, can't get discord to work

Andrey

Do I still need to install Media Foundation Update Installer from 2020 that was made for the vista extended kernel if I use current version of Second System?

Andrey

Microsoft Security Essentials works on Vista Extended Kernel, but doesn't on Second System. Is there a fix?

win32

It should not be necessary, as the modules can be placed in the x64 Second System directory instead.

win32

Which type of error occurs? I haven't been able to test on Vista, but I am aware that it can have issues if spoofed to Windows 10 on Windows 7/8.x.

Andrey

spyware definitions cannot be updated. They can on Vista Extended Kernel. Manually.
