Just out of curiosity, in future versions of the program, will it be possible to install, at least using the offline installer, versions of Microsoft Office that are not officially supported on Windows 7 (Office 2019 and later)? Thanks for your attention.

Office 2019 works on Windows 7 without any patches, the latest version of Microsoft 365 which is compatible with Windows 7 is from 2020-07, so it makes sense. I installed it on my laptop via official Microsoft’s deployment tool for Office a few months ago and it works correctly.

Thanks for the comment! I was actually referring to something slightly different. I know specific Office 2019 builds can be installed on Windows 7 using Microsoft's Deployment Tool. My question was whether future versions of this compatibility layer might allow the standard Microsoft Office Click-to-Run installer to install Office 2019, 2021, or 2024 directly on Windows 7, instead of relying on the Deployment Tool.

im a little confused on whats the point for the windows 10/ 11 extened kernel? also is there a works for a windows xp 64bit extended kernel?

Some applications no longer run on earlier builds of Windows 10, including Discord and Qt 6.10+ applications. In fact, you now need 1903 to run Qt 6.10+ applications without Second System. The "Second System for Services" that was introduced in version 3.0 will also be the deployment method for any NT 5.x and earlier versions, but I haven't been able to extensively test it on XP x64 yet.

alright good to know thank you. also im having issues with second system running surpremium build 138.0.7204.300 (Official Build) (64-bit) and with the lastest build to of the browser. youtube does not work for me. it refuese to play sound or video for me.

Which Windows version is this? Supermium is somewhat similar to Second System in how it handles compatibility so some conflicts may occur, but I have cleared them all to my knowledge on Vista and 7.

For now I recommend to run Supermium in "Shell" mode using the Second System Config tool.

Hello! Recently, the Amnesia Client was updated and started using Qt 6.10+ with a dependency on ICU, which now interferes with the Amnezia service. I tried patching ICU, but the service still won't start. What can I do with that?

Did you place the modified ICU DLLs in system32? The user DLL location may not be sufficient for the service.

Which method was used to install VS2026? There are some issues with the latest version of the installer that are very difficult to resolve.

Anyone else getting a white screen when launching Chrome? The only workaround I've found is --use-angle=swiftshader. The browser itself is still responsive (e.g. I can open new windows with Ctrl+N, and Chrome Task Manager opens too, although it's also just a white window), so it seems like a rendering issue rather than the browser hanging. I've reproduced it on Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Occasionally Chrome launches normally without the flag, but most of the time it doesn't. I've tested Chrome 149, 150 and 151 with the same result. Also, there are a couple of Vista-specific issues like Installing Chrome doesn't create a desktop shortcut or Start Menu entry and clicking "Show in folder" after downloading a file doesn't open Explorer.

Just attempted the install of the latest version 1.98.10 on Windows 7. Service is doing odd things, but it could be resolved.

I just installed VS2026 with only C++ workloads and haven't had an issue creating empty or C++ console application projects. But I did find missing functions in the debugger which I have just added. I did make sure to kill the Edge WebView installation when VS was installing before any error could occur.

I was really hopeful about this, but it doesn't feel quite safe to use and install as it is. It screwed things up, and made some sort of permanent system changes even after it was uninstalled. I was no longer able to use VirtualBox, after I uninstalled it. I did immediately change the default profile setting to Passive as soon as it was installed, and made adjustments as needed. And while I had it installed, it was doing some odd things with Steam and making some things not work. I did realize quickly that it does not work with VxKex, and I disabled VxKex for the things that I was testing with, but some things were just buggy and wouldn't actually launch. Finding out that some issues remained after fully uninstalling Second System is the dangerous part. Luckily, I made a System Restore Point prior to installing Second System, and after restoring to that point, VirtualBox worked again. This, is specifically the part that needs to be worked on the most, I would say. People need to be able to know that they can safely install and uninstall this without any permanent damage. It was really cool that Signal was able to work though, even if it kept randomly crashing every few seconds to a couple of minutes (not consistent, and no event viewer logs of it). I was also able to install a modern Firefox fork (Floorp) and it also worked - that one seemed perfect after downloading "Segoe Fluent Icons" font. I believe in the vision and will continue to subscribe for a bit to show support, but I cannot safely use it as it is.

Unfortunately I found that changes to both Second System and VxKex (the i486 version) in recent months have made them less compatible with each other. I will be making some changes that should improve their compatibility, if only because they could affect other IFEO DLL loads. Second System *should* cleanly remove itself from the running system when uninstalled, as all of its registry entries (including the one that loads the shell through Second System to enable its propagation capabilities) should be removed. I will see if there is any unusual behaviour exhibited with VirtualBox (presumptive 7.2.14) though.

Thanks! I appreciate how actively you are developing this. I was specifically using VirtualBox 7.0.25 but I think the problem would be the same. Before installing Second System, and after restoring to that point, I am able to run it. I didn't try to start it while Second System was installed, but after I uninstalled Second System, the main program could not longer open and had this error: The procedure entry point GetSystemTimePreciseAsFileTime could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll. I am using it on Windows 7 x64 btw.

Hey i recently installed secondsystem which i find pretty cool, some applications that vxkex doesn't support are supported by second system which is really cool honestly, also it's appear that prism launcher and kicad work with i486 vxkex and not secondsystem, kicad throw an error that api-ms-win-core-registery-l1-1-1.dll is missing, and prism launcher seem to fail to refuse to let us login with our microsoft account, thanks you very much for your work!

That may have been from an application that hooks other applications (like OBS Studio or RTSS) with a DLL. The application may have been installed while Second System was in use and the DLL itself may have required Second System to use. It would've been interesting to see a Dependency Walker profile on the affected application.

I think you are right. I just tested again, setting DefaultProfile to Passive prior to the reboot needed for the install, and then rebooted and uninstalled Second System, followed by another reboot. VirtualBox still works after that. Sorry for the bad information. I have no idea which install or uninstall did it, but I don't have OBS or RTSS installed. The things that I definitely installed / uninstalled during that time when testing it was Steam, FloorP, and Signal. Sorry for the accusation and bad info. For whatever reason though, Steam won't launch with SecondSystem installed, even though it's set to Passive (manually checked for the Steam exe as well). I have VxKex enabled on it, and I definitely don't want to go through the ordeal of "fixing" steam again, so I will just uninstall SecondSystem for now.

hey quick question, do you (or anyone else) know of anyone who does modified or ported drivers for modern hardware (like newer Nvidia drivers, or b550+ chipset drivers) for windows 7?

No one has done newer GPU drivers. That needs a new DXGKRNL. I was going to work with a ReactOS kernel developer on that, but they ended up working on other things, so I started my own. But it is a very large undertaking. However, I believe most other driver types are accounted for. There was a Chinese developer who worked on newer Realtek WLAN drivers, which was then modified further by a couple of other guys. I think they may have also done something for AMD chipset drivers too. And then there are some other types that I have done myself (I'm running Windows 10 1507 XHCI/USB 3.1 drivers on Windows Vista, on an older system that had buggy official vendor drivers). I have been trying to release a patcher but it has been censored.

I noticed problems with p_uses.dll on my Windows 8.1 laptop. When using Cubase 14 and Photoshop 2025 with high DPI mode enabled, there are issues such as incorrect window sizes, missing parts of windows (sometimes buttons are out of the window), etc. Using a custom user32 wrapper solves this problem.

Hey I wanted to report the EA App dropping support for Windows 7. It's an electron app still based on v109, and SecondSystem doesn't work on either the installer nor the launcher itself. For now, the only method is installing it 'manually' by downloading it on a Windows 10 computer, copying it over, manually creating the services in the registry, patching out the few API calls and adding stub api .dlls. If you would mind, could you look into it in the future? It's a launcher that barely ever changes and should be easy to maintain.

What components need to be installed on my system to run Steam? It crashes for me on startup—no matter which compatibility mode I choose (7/8/10/11). It just won’t start. Visual C++ Pack, .NET Framework, and DirectX are installed. I installed a clean copy of Vista SP2 with all updates up to 2017, plus the SHA update that used to need to be installed alongside the Extended Kernel (I didn’t install the Extended Kernel).

I'm trying to download the latest version of firefox and it just crashes and doesn't give any error code during installation. I checked event viewer and nothing was there as well. I notice the epic games launcher setup not launching either and it used to on previous builds of second system specifically the setup only. When will these issues be addressed? Thanks.

I get error api-ms-win-core-version-l1-1-1.dll is missing when running epic games launcher as admin on both win11config and defaultconfig. Without admin privs it runs the updater, updates and then disappears. epic games process isn't shown in task manager. Windows 8.1.

I was quite late with the 3.1 update on my Windows 8.0 installation, and 3.1 doesn't really work there (3.0 was fine) The easiest thing to notice is that cmd.exe fails to launch with it's default the "shell" profile and throws 0xc0000142 error Almost all other programs fail with 0x80000002 error if launched by double-clicking, but they work if I right click > SecondSystem config > RunApp Firefox 140 based Tor-Browser no longer works too, although base Firefox does.

rockstar games launcher shows error saying the os isn't supported. It used to work but I think an update patched it or something. Testing on Windows 8.1 and used both DefaultConfig and Win11Config. Also I notice stuttering on GTA 5, will there be future directx11 improvements so that it can be as smooth as Windows 10 and 11? Thanks.

It still runs for me, but my Launcher.exe has a digital signature date of July 9 2026. I did just make an adjustment to compute shader creation which specifically affects BeamNG.drive and enable higher lighting modes to be used in version 0.39+. I am not sure if this would benefit other games. I think that the big improvements may only come with newer WDDM 2.x/3.x drivers which are still a little far away.

Everytime I install it and reboot I need to manually start explorer.exe and also in general if I try to apply any type of config to lets say the Firefox Setup installer it just never launches when clicking on run app. Also My Cursor's loading indicator starts when clicking run app but nothing ever runs also once when opening task manager the entire OS crashed. I'm running Windows 8.1

Having an issue installing, a red access denied error flashes before the script continues, and while it says it installed successfully I don't believe that is the case. Attempting to run as administrator causes it to close almost instantly after running. Vista x64.

Also pretty random but Font always changes and the taskbar deforms itself when I open Task Manager during the same time I click run app and the infinite loading indicator appears. Also could it have to do with me running WMC edition (Windows Media Center)

This is a first. I recommend to run the uninstaller executable, then reboot and try reinstalling with administrator privileges.

Also right clicking the install cmd file and hitting run as admin never works cause it just throws the second cmd window at me and its really fast so i can only make out that its an not recognized as an internal or external command error. Btw i just tested and not looking good it also logs in with a blackscreen so i think its my specific WMC edition

I figured it out. The Windows 8.1 Pro Windows Media Center Edition modifies Explorer.exe in several ways causing Explorer to chocke out and collapse like i described earlier.

That's odd. I thought all they added was WMC and not modify anything else. I'll have to test this specific case.

I don't think its specifically explorer.exe it edits but maybe some features WMC adds like its own core binaries / extended media playback and etc. might do something with the system which might cause incompatibility cause both of my PC's from different eras running the WMC edition failed I'll try it on the same PC but this time on regular 8.1 pro

Just confirmed it the exact same PC running Media Center edition which is now using stock 8.1 pro actually shows the reboot/sign out prompt in the CMD window which the WMC edition didn't so somethings wrong there.

The application x32dbg does not work on Vista using this due to missing DwmInvalidateIconicBitmaps in dwmapi.dll and others like K32GetProcessImageFileNameW in KERNEL32.dll

when will directx12 implementation arrive for windows 8/8.1? I'm trying to run COD MW 2019 and it won't launch because directx12 doesn't exist. Is it possible?

There has been one for some time, but it was restricted to a few applications that did not work with D3D12on7 for awhile. I am about to release an alternative to it which should be more compatible, but need more results.
