I've got a lot of sponsored mentions coming up!

They really help me keep this going without supplementing in other ways so I'd love to DELIVER.  More popcorn flicks, please?!

*And don't worry I'm sure we'll get to all of them so help me rank 😎

Have you ever done a Scorsese on the channel? I can't think of one, so I'm voting for The Departed, ridiculous Boston accents and all.

Jake McNulty

Really good selection here. Now I hope you don't mind me asking, but are you familiar with the films of director Terry Gilliam? He's definitely a filmmaker's filmmaker, most of his films have really devout cult followings, and he's my personal favourite director of all time who inspired me to pursue a career in film. Do check him out if you haven't already, I promise you won't regret it.

Caren Helms

Oh, wow. Such a great and diverse selection! I would HIGHLY recommend Time Bandits and Brazil! I love Terry Gilliam films, but Time Bandits is my all-time favorite!

Terminator, departed then gladiator, gladiator is great but terminator is too much of a classic to not watch first and I put scorcese above russell crowe

I love all the stories about the making of The Terminator. you got to hand it to James Cameron. he truly is next level dedicated to his projects.

The Departed for me, but these are all solid choices! Btw, if you're looking for more popcorn movies, I'd throw in Ocean's Eleven (2001). It's very "Hollywood" (in the best possible way) and you've got a bunch of A-Listers operating at their peak. Plus Soderbergh having a lot of fun with the camera. It's clever and zippy, and also just a very well constructed movie. You might have seen it already, but if not, that's a good one to add to the list.

Paul Cox

Welp, looks like The Terminator is on its way to a win, so go ahead and clear your schedule for T2 as well. Might be algorithmically advantageous to release them back to back.

Vince

That's the weirdest sequel ever, not very futuristic at all, it's just suddenly a bunch of scottish lads reminiscing about their youth.

Paul Cox

Haha I almost pressed the button on that yesterday because it's on Tubi or something right now, but I didn't want to sully my memories of the original Trainspotting (which probably isn't as good as I remember it being anyway).

Vince

The sequal is actually pretty solid, it doesn't feel like a pure cash-grab. I'm not sure if it entirely justifies it's own existence, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it after I went in with muted expectations.

Elliot Nesterman

Or the original "Ocean's Eleven" from 1960. The Rat Pack in a heartwarming, and frankly more realistic, heist movie.

Nick of Time

I still watch Trainspotting just about every year and love it every time “It’s shite bein’ Scottish!!” But I haven’t brought myself to watch T2 yet. I want to, just haven’t yet.

Paul Cox

I actually caught T2 last night. Better than I expected, but a lot of the pure chaos of the first is supplanted by more conventional plotting and wearier characters—which stands to reason, because everyone is 20 years older. If the first is a 4 star film, the sequel is a 3.5.

Robert Everest Johnson

There is a film "Second-hand Lions" with Robert Duvall, Michael Caine. Kyra Sedgwick, and the kid whose name I forget. To me it is a most perfectly satisfying film. No one else will recommend it because so few have seen it. But that is why you need to introduce it to your fans. Duvall and Caine play such well written characters. They save the kid and the kid saves them. The end is delightful.
