Shanelle, you crying made me cry too! I love this reaction, I needed it today. Thank you.

Um...Ewan McGregor was 32 when this movie came out and Tom Hanks was 47. So...yeah, Tom Hanks was too old for the role. Also, I lost my father 26 years ago, when he had just turned 48. He died from complications of alcoholism, so it was and wasn't unexpected. None of us kids were close to him, so it hit us all very strangely. There was certainly no big bedside reunion. He also died in Alabama, though none of my family lives there. It was a nice story, but not one that resonates with me, for many reasons. A good film, though!

so that was my first time watching this movie and it struck in certain way. my grandmother passed away recently so yeah, it brought up some stuff. i remember as a child all the stories she would tell and all her trinkets of hers i would play with. nothing whimsical like in this movie but still very grateful to have them with me. so i am at her funeral and fighting all the devastation from erupting out of me and i am listening to these stories that people are telling about her and im finding myself snapping back to my childhood. it was kind of like waves crashing over me and taking my sadness with them. at the end, i found myself feeling happy she had lived. this movie kind of did the same thing to me. as Will was carrying his father down to the pond i found myself sobbing less and just feeling happy that Ed Bloom had lived. then of course it has to end at his funeral and everyone he knew is there telling their stories about him. im sitting here like wow!!! didnt expect to have such a personal connection to a movie. you mention a couple of times that you love the music in this movie. i happened to notice in the opening credits that the composer is none other than Danny Elfman. this guy is kind of like a John Williams to Tim Burton. So if we explore more Tim Burton we are going to hear more Danny Elfman. crazy fun fact: Danny Elfman composed the theme for the television show The Simpsons!!! an even crazier and funner fact: Danny Elfman is/was the front man for the new wave rock group Oingo Boingo who had some decent hits in the 80's.

Got me in the feels. I think the last time we cried like this together was for Forrest Gump. My wife and I saw this when it came out. And, I think we've seen it again together only once, and it's been a few years. We do get weepy together at the sad ones. This wasn't really sad as much as poignant. And, as we get older, poignancy elicits more tears. Just wait... you're still young! I'm not going to share all my stories with you now. I have lived quite an amazing life, unremarkable as it has been. But, I do tell stories. All of them true. And... they actually happened! But, you know what? The 33 years I've been married to my wife have been the best of my life! And, I'll gladly take as many more as God will allow. So... seemed to me like you were thinking about your folks. And, that's sweet. I know you love them. And, that's sweet, too. Take care, little girl, and don't stop crying. Helps clear out the cobwebs, and then everything looks brighter! Oh... by the way... don't make a big deal about your size. Size matters not! Remember? 4'11". Well... yeah, that is a little small. My wife is 5' even. I'm 6'1". So, I sit down to hug her. :) Rest well, Shanelle. See you for the next watch.

I love this movie but I always break down sobbing. I saw this movie in the theaters with my mom which was a bad idea lol. My grandfather died the August before this movie came out (it was a christmas release) and we both were bawling our eyes out. But also, this movie instilled a fear of dying on the toilet in me.

I have always interpreted the title of this movie as the telling of big tales as in "I caught a fish THIS big." I can now see it as big fish in a small pond as well. I did see this in theaters and remember thinking it was a movie about a son trying to determine which of his father's story were true. Before re-watching this, I remembered only two things about it. One is that he came across that town (which I'd go barefoot in because of that grass) and the circus was involved somehow. Now that I have re-watched this, I got a totally different movie than what I was expecting. I now have a different interpretation of what this movie is about. Remembering our loved ones through stories that are told.

Another good Tim Burton film is Big Eyes (2014) with Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz, based on a true story. Also, Ed Wood (1994) based on the true story of the "filmmaker" Ed Wood, starring Johnny Depp, Martin Landau and Bill Murray.
