Awesome that means I can watch along with my special edition laserdisc.

woohoo!!! ***the ending you saw is not canon!!!*** it is an alternate ending. theatrically we saw the blacktop scrolling by with sarah saying that we are on the road to an uncertain future, hence future Terminator movies... so i will attempt to inform you on the deleted scenes you saw that were not in the theatrical cut... all scenes with Michael Biehn (aka Kyle Reese) these were a part of the extended scene where we get reacquainted with Sarah and she is beaten and forced to take medication. this includes the first scene of Sarah in the playground. the bad terminator killing the family dog was not in the theatrical cut the bad terminator examining John's room was added. the scene were Miles Dyson is convinced to take his family to the water park was not in the theatrical cut. the scene where they extract Arnie's cpu to reprogram it to learn and Sarah trying to destroy it were not in the theatrical cut. At the gas station where Arnie trys to learn to smile was not in the theatrical cut. the scene with John and Arnie in the weapons cache had some extended shots added to what you saw all shots in the steel mill where we see the bad terminator is seemingly melting into whatever he touches were added in the version you saw. i think i hit all the major additions in the version you saw as i already mentioned the final scene in the playground with old Sarah is not canon!!! very great reaction here Shan!!! loved every minute of it!!!

Oh no, I hope not being able to record rentals is just a glitch or something, because I don't know what I'll do if all the first time watch channels disappear!

Erik Stevenson

Is the Director's Cut available to rent anywhere? Can't find it on Amazon, Apple, or Google Play.

Ken Langston

I just wish you could experience seeing this on the big screen like I did back in the 90s. The effects in this and Jurassic Park were jaw-dropping. I imagine it would be like movie fans in the 20s seeing The Jazz Singer the first talking motion picture. CGI is so common even in mid or low budget films today but no one had seen anything like it before this movie.

Paul Cox

Yeah, no... I love love LOVE Die Hard, but T2 is THE best action movie ever made. No doubt about it.

RocktSurgeon

Female “chosen ones”. Have you watched the Hunger Games movies? More complex and I think it at least a bit subverts some of the chosen one tropes but it does a bit of it. I liked them more seeing them a second time, at least for me really great series worth watching if you haven’t! But yeah Sarah Connor is one of the top true female protagonists, i’d say not that many others comparable besides her and Sigourney until Charlize/Furiosa in Mad Max Fury Road.

i bought the extended version on amazon prime. Shan's version as an extra scene but other than that it was perfect. hope this helps.

Extra scenes: -The two workers at the mental institution assaulting Sarah and forcing her to take the meds. -Kyle Reese and the playground scene right after that. -T-1000 going out into the yard, killing the dog, and reading its bloody collar AND John's room. -Sarah and John opening up T-800's head to remove his chip to flip the switch on it for him to start learning. -T-800 trying to smile for the first time. -Miles at home with his wife and kids talking about his work and Raging Waters. -Miles smashing the oversized "working" model of the CPU with the axe. -T-1000 malfunctioning after being frozen (his hand and feet uncontrollably taking the form of objects he touches). -The 30 years later scene. This is an alternate ending. The theatrical ending shows a close up of the black top of a road with Sarah narrating.

Dude, LaserDisc. Mom and dad had over 300 of those things. Our T2 developed some laser rot right at the part where Terminator and John enter the mental institution's parking garage.

My Ex Boyfriend

Great reaction. Honestly we’re you doubting us when we told T2 is better than the original? How often are we wrong?

Leigh

As Shanelle said throughout, “Yes, yes, yes!” That was a great reaction. I saw it in theaters opening weekend and it’s still in my top 10 list. Kudos to Shanelle for keeping it together at the end. I cried like a baby when Arnie self- terminated. I’ve seen the theatrical version many times & deleted scenes once. I think the deleted scenes could have remained deleted (from the director’s cut) with the eacpetion of 2: more time at Enrique’s dessert home & the scenes in the gas station when Linda & T2 did surgery on each other. Linda Hamilton did become my hero after this movie. It’s hard to find such a tough authentic bad ass woman since (w/ the exception of Charlize Theron’s furious). Are those parts still not being written? Shanelle, you may have found your POPCORN 🍿 movie. Thanks for a great reaction & trivia!

Leigh

and the theatrical release ending was SOOO much better!

Leigh

‘Hasta la vista, baby’ was not a thing until AFTER this release. Then it caught on like wild fire. 🔥

Alan Kobb

Is this available streaming?

shanellericcio

Oh no now I have to do a reaction to the theatrical ending!! I’m going to have to find a way to record it but I’ll make it happen you guys!!

Paul Cox

It grabbed a cultural foothold in a 1987 Jody Watley song ("Lookin' For A New Love"). T2 amplified its common usage four years later.

I personally have no idea who approved this version with this ending, but I want to think it wasn’t Cameron. He filmed that ending, but ultimately decided to not use it because he believed it just wasn’t right for John Conner’s character. He didn’t believe John would have gone on to become a senator. At least that’s what the supplemental material with my laserdisc set says. My copy in my box set is the extended edition, but with the theatrical ending. This version was overseen by Cameron himself.

MotoDork

I have around 250 titles, some I’ve had since 1992 when I bought my first player. I’m lucky in that none of my titles so far have any rot.

David Crabtree

One big benefit you had going into this movie blind, was the twist of Arnold being John's protector. Unfortunately in 1991, the trailers spoiled that because the studio wanted to promote the movie with Arnold as the big action hero.

MotoDork

I remember the tagline in the later teasers and trailers. "This time he's back... FOR GOOD."

MotoDork

I want to see an entire film about Sarah and Enrique kicking ass together all over Mexico.

John Rando

The Director’s Cut :-( Well, at least you got the ending that tells you not to watch any of the other Terminator movies. This is the true ending. More so closure for everyone who only liked the first two.

MotoDork

The version she watched is the “ultimate cut.” If you want to follow along, watch that one. If you want the director-approved extended edition, you will want to watch the “Special Edition” cut. That’s the one with extra scenes, but with the theatrical ending.

Michael F.

The theatrical release is a tighter movie... obviously. It's the one I had seen multiple times before getting the blu-ray collector's set which had the director's cut on it. (That's what I watched with you.) I only watched it the one time before. The extra stuff gives a little more background, but none of it is necessary for the telling of the story or flow of the movie. But... we don't only watch your reactions for the movies you're reacting to, mostly, we watch for your reactions. So... in that sense, it's a win! Call backs are basically fan service, which is not a bad thing, if it's done well. These all were. So, yay! As with all the other Alien movies after "Aliens", you would do well not to watch any of the other Terminator movies, either. Well... work calls. Gotta put the ol' nose to the ol' grindstone. (Oh, FYI, because I know you care :) the trial I was called for was cancelled. I guess they settled; all the rest of the trials for the month have been cancelled, so I'm off the hook for Jury Duty. ) As always, thank you for the watch. I'm looking forward to the next one.

MotoDork

This isn’t the “director’s cut” really. It’s the Ultimate Cut. The only two versions approved by James Cameron are the theatrical release and the Special Edition. The Ultimate Cut, the one she watched, is NOT approved by Cameron.

John Rando

The 16 mins of deleted scenes and the alternate ending were approved by Cameron.

John Rando

Finally watched this all the way through. Shanelle your joy at these epic moments is everything. I remember this being the biggest movie of the early 90s, too young to see in theaters, but when I got to be about 7 or 8 I watched this over and over, along with Back to the Future, Die Hard, Jurassic Park, etc. I find it so funny when you talk to us like it’s interactive bc I find myself answering you in my head then I remember wait she can’t hear me lol. I also went to Universal Studios in Cali and went on the ride when I was about 10, and also the Back to the Future ride. I think those def might be gone now :-( I couldn’t believe they shot extra footage with the actual actors for those rides. It was great!

Thomas Snyder

I was sooooo excited till I just saw Directors Cut. Theatrical cut is my favorite action movie of all time and Directors Cut just makes me shake my head like what were they thinking. I'm so sorry you didn't get to experience this for the first time as the theatrical cut.

Thomas Snyder

It actually wasn't only the Sherman Oaks Galleria. The outside/parking garage scenes were filmed at the Northridge Fashion Center and the inside scene where Arnold is thrown through the glass window was the old (now remodeled open air mall) Santa Monica Mall. I believe the only thing in here that was Sherman Oaks was the fight scene in the hallway but I could be wrong. If you look close you'll notice a lot of goofs/continuity with the tow truck jump scene. In the initial jump the axle on the truck clearly is shown broken and the windows pop out. In the next scene the windows are back only for the T-1000 to push them out later. Also, when Arnolds stunt guy jumps the Harley off to the LA river there are very clear guide wires attached to the bike which in the original version were poorly edited out and artifacts can clearly be seen.

Tim Trozzo

The Director's cut is on HBOMax.
