I have a themed video coming up!! It's about the environment so I've pitched these two to the brand I'm working with! Help us out?

Jason Chirevas

DON’T LOOK UP is one of the worst movies of the last decade. Watch literally anything else, unless you’re a big fan of sanctimonious self-satisfaction.

Paul Cox

Don't have Netflix anymore, so I'll probably never see Don't Look Up unless it's a condensed watch along on your channel, so that's how I'm voting : )

Jake McNulty

TBH I've seen neither of these, and as I understand neither one get great reviews. But between a Roland Emmerich disaster flick and Adam McKay in 'serious filmmaker with a message' mode I suspect the former might be the more fun to watch.

Paul Cox

lol watch me be the lone voter. That's the consequence of trying to cheat the system, I guess!

daniel j brooks

never seen Don't Look Up. everyone seems to think it is garbage. Day After Tomorrow it is

Caren Helms

I've never see The Day After Tomorrow that I remember. I was one of the apparently few people who really like Don't Look Up, I think people need to get over themselves, honestly. It seems like a bunch of right-wing nutjobs got in a twist about Don't Look Up. Why can't people just enjoy films as entertainment? No idea.

Elliot Nesterman

Scientists generally, an d climatologists particularly, like "Don't Look Up" as being an effective satire on politicians' and the public's current science denialism. On that basis it gets my vote.

Paul Cox

Yeah, I'm low key eager to see it because of the accuracy, but as far as tone goes I really hated McKay's 'Vice' and this seems like that x1000.

Gary Trousdale

“Don’t Look up” is pretty goddamn brilliant. More so because it pisses off conservatives and Right Wingers who decry it as “a terrible movie!” “The worst movie ever made!!” “Totally incomprehensible gibberish!” As former Senator Al Franken said, “The Right has an Irony Deficiency”

Gary Trousdale

The Day After Tomorrow on the other hand, is not nearly so pointedly political, and is more of a straight up disaster movie. Totally enjoyable, though. Either movie is a good choice, but you may lose people to unsubscriptions if you run Don’t Look Up.

Jason Chirevas

Just as a counter to that, I’m as far left socially as it gets and I think DON’T LOOK UP is self-satisfied trash. It’s Adam McKay and cast finger wagging to the choir with one hand and slapping each other’s backs with the other. It’s perfectly toned to make sure those most in need of hearing its message will never go anywhere near it.

Paul Cox

I'm with Jason. A lot of the criticism I'd read was from fellow leftists about how it clevered itself to death.

Gary Trousdale

Fair enough. The wit was not rapier, but rather sledgehammer. Sometimes that’s what it takes to break through, but I get you.

Dee Aitch

Don't Look Up is a one-joke film where the joke is repeated over and over. Decent acting but a laborious message. Meanwhile Day After Tomorrow is just a horrible film. Save yourself time and watch good movies is my suggestion.

Paul Cox

I agree. It's a subgenre that's almost impossible to make a good film in, Wall-E excepted. But I don't get the sense we'll ever see an animated film on Shanelle's channel because of the (live action) filmmaking focus.

Paul Cox

Maybe some dystopian future sagas like 12 Monkeys or Mad Max, neither of which focuses on how civilization got the way it is, but how we attempt to cope with it in various ways.

Jake McNulty

If you want to go with dystopian films, then I'd like to add Brazil to that list.

Nick Parker

Not only that, its the very POINT of the movie. It is a true reflection of how the media has handled news relating to the climate crisis. Subtle, tempered messages get drowned out. Decade after decade not taken seriously, all the while problem is getting worse and harder to solve. Until there is no choice but to use a sledgehammer.

Nick Parker

Don't Look Up is important and uncomfortable. It speaks to society's determination to not deal with a problem. It is a message movie and not meant to follow a template.
