Oh this just made my crappy day so much better!

FYI, the festival that C3PO said happened once every 42 years... 2019 - 1977 = 42 years

Glad you liked this one, because honestly I wanted this whole experience to be a good one for you. It was for a lot of people! I'd never claim to be a deeeeeep Star Wars fan. I've seen the main films, plus Rogue One and Solo, some of them multiple times, but I've never read any of the expanded universe stuff, nor have I seen any of the Disney+ series. Will I eventually? I doubt it. Two things ruined IX for me, though, to the extent that I still—three years later—get mad about it. 1) Bringing Palpatine back was a cheap stunt and totally unnecessary. 2) I loved how Rian Johnson made the force more inclusive than it had ever been before by making Rey the descendant of nobodies. That's maybe the most important lesson Star Wars ever taught the viewer. The force is, can be, and should be for everyone, regardless of your status. JJ Abrams comes back and says "Forget that nonsense, you have to come from one of two different bloodlines to master the force, and Rey's a Palpatine. Did we trick you, dummy? The force is only for those with exclusive connections!" So yeah, a lot of the ephemeral events in TROS are great. I love the small things like 3PO saying goodbye, Chewbacca getting his medal, and so on. But that one big pivot about Rey kills this movie DEAD for me, even if she does pick her own family at the end. Grrrr.

First off, before my first time watching this movie I knew that Palpatine was back. I think they did a great job executing the story and it is fun to watch with more of those great visuals, I just wish they brought in another villain instead of Palpatine. So if we were to assume that Palpatine was controlling things the whole time, during your Attack of the Clones watch, at around the 1h 5m mark, you made the comment "I wonder if someone is manipulating the force to make him see that and like it's not true and it's like a trap" when Anakin was talking to Padme. So maybe it was Palpatine. One little plot hole that I saw in a video on YouTube. If you need a way finder to get to Exegol, how does General Pride and everybody on those Star Destroyers get there? Speaking of the Star Destroyers, I don't get why they rose out of the ground. Weird choice. You thought Poe looked like Indiana Jones. I was thinking he looked like Han. Something you might of missed in The Last Jedi. After Snoke dies, we see Hux in the throne room with an unconscious Kylo. Hux starts to go for his blaster just as Kylo is coming to. I want to know if Keri Russell was in the costume the whole time or just that one scene so we could see her eyes. When Luke raises the X-wing, I think we hear the same music as when Yoda did it.

the things i like about this movie is the characters from the original trilogy. i was stoked to see Lando again as well as Wedge Antilles (that grey haired guy that looked familiar to you!!!) i have loved Wedge as a character for my whole life. he was always there for the big turning points in history in this universe and hes just an average guy supporting the cause he believes in, so i could put myself in his shoes and live vicariously through him. he is my personal link to Star Wars i suppose. Fun Fact: the actor who plays Wedge Antilles is Denis Lawson whose nephew is Ewan McGregor who plays Obi Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy!!! ahhhhh!!!! i was kind of offended that they made us think Chewy was killed in this movie. why do you have to play with our emotions like that?!?!?! not cool funny how you are noticing lens flare in this!!! i am desensitized to lens flare after watching Star Trek 2009 where Abrams went off the deep end with this technique. if you ever react to that movie...wear sunglasses!!! dont be embarrassed or apologetic if you get lost in Poe's good looks...i am the same way with Rey!!! she could spout some dialogue and i would not have heard a word of it. Lastly, sorry you are not in perfect health. wishing you better health in the future and i am anxiously awaiting your next reaction....

right!!! like the fleet Lando summons in a matter of hours to fight these Star Destroyers, which ultimately didnt really matter in the end. really, the space battles just felt underwhelming in this trilogy. they didnt have the weight behind them like they did in A New Hope and Return of the Jedi. i wish those were done better.

You speak of canon, I'm actually a Star Wars fan that just accepts the first trilogy as canon. Everything else is just fanfiction with varying degrees of entertainment (with Lucas getting mostly everything wrong about his own brainchild). So when Luke gets a little un-Luke-like in 8, I'm still there for the story that it's giving. Parts of 9 were pretty awesome (the light sabre teleportation and Ben's "come at me" gesture may be the high point). But ultimately it was pulled way down by the amount of fanservice that Abrams did, letting the angry reviewers of 8 write the story instead of telling his own. (Snoke can't be bad guy and has to be Emperor puppet, Rey can't be a nobody, Rose gets sidelined because of the hate, the horrible confusion on Finn's love interests). It makes it so hard to buy in to the story, although I did just turn off my brain and enjoy it as a good popcorn flick.

dude, im with you 100%, but The Mandalorian and Obi Wan Kenobi series are good watches so check those out if you wish.

Picking up on something Jason McNeil mentioned, I have long thought the reason Anakin and Padme’s relationship seems too easy and unnatural in AOTC is Anakin is unconsciously using the Force to make Padme fall for him. Frankly, that sucks for the Padme character, and Natalie Portman as an actor, but it’s the only way what happens in that movie makes any sense. It also explains why Padme acts progressively more clueless and daffy whenever she’s in Anakin’s presence. It’s easy to say, well, it’s bad writing, and maybe it is, but if we later learn in ROTS Palpatine is manipulating Anakin by planting nightmares in his head (after, of course, siring him with Shmi via the Force) it stands to reason Anakin might, in turn, have that sort of influence on Padme, whom he’s spent 10 years pining for when AOTC begins. 🤷‍♂️

The Palpatine thing was totally unnecessary agree! and I do think they should've kept Chewy dead ... I can't belive I just wrote that.

shanellericcio

lol you guys are helping me see my naivete ... I just am like well okay, if the fleet can show up at the drop of a hat! fine! I'm in! haha I say Kerri Russell was on set for less than a week, so maybe it could be her? From an acting perspective, I'd give my scene partner the gift of actually being there. (maybe just me!)

shanellericcio

you have excellent points, I can see every step where they backtracked to appease fans (and maybe Disney?) Sidelining Finn and Rose sucked, and I wanted them to keep Rey a nobody

Jason Chirevas

As close as J.J. and Keri Russell are, I’d guess she was Zorii any time you saw her.
