I saw this one in the theatre. There were about 30-40 of us total; it was a late showing. When the credits started to roll, not a single person moved to leave. The credits ended, the lights came up, and everyone quietly stood around talking about it with perfect strangers. The first person headed home 10 minutes later. It's the only time in my life I've ever seen that happen.

Going into this movie I knew that Michael Clarke Duncan was a central figure in this movie and there was also a mouse involved somehow. What surprised me about this movie was that it is 3 hours long. It does move along at a nice pace and it's never boring so you don't feel it. Those people who say you can't enjoy the movie because your calling out film-makery stuff must not know the process. They must think you talk the whole time and then in editing keep the good stuff. I wonder if these same people would watch a show like Survivor and not realize how much is not being shown. You said you were pretty silent on this one, but there were some long, emotional scenes in this one that didn't need talking at those times. Other than that, I think this one had a normal amount of talking. I can't picture Tom Hanks as Andy Dufresne. Tim Robbins was to good.

I think you were referring to Brutal when you said he was vest guy in "Apollo 13"? No, that was David Morse, who might be most memorable for playing Ellie's dad in "Contact." Ed Harris ("The Rock", "The Abyss", "The Right Stuff", "The Truman Show") was Gene Kranz in "Apollo 13". Apologies if you corrected yourself later, I only scanned this version for the big scenes.

Mike Fox

Seconded. Contact is worth some deeper discussion on a few levels. Morse was fun in "The Long Kiss Goodnight" too, playing against type.

I was confused!!!! Like i had a clear memory of David Morse and Tom Hanks being together but i was off. Don’t worry i stop myself from saying stuff all the time because i don’t want to be “wrong” but sometimes it’s just nice to come here and have you guys help out 😂

I loved contact when i saw!! I’m still kind of feeling weird about strict commentary but that’s one that has some great filmmaking in it
