I had never seen anything like Trainspotting before. First of all it is an excellent movie. Very well done. I laughed, I cried, I was shocked, I was disgusted, and was entertained. It grabs onto you and doesn't let go. Its worth a watch, but it will be quite a while before you watch it again.

The 1979 film is called “The Muppet Movie” (as opposed to 2011’s “The Muppets”). It’s fun. You’ll like it. It’s like the origin story of The Muppets. Great musical numbers, fun cameos of stars you probably don’t know… you’ll laugh, you’ll cry. Run Lola Run (Ger: Lola Rennt) is a good choice, too. Interested in seeing what you think of it. Very much should tickle the filmmaker and scriptwriting parts of your brain. It’s short which is probably a good thing given the nature of it, though it’s in German. I watched it many times in the theater in 1999. Amelie is very cute and twee and I love it. Another one that has lots of good filmmaker-y bits in it. Those three get my vote.

Very very much looking forward to Run Lola Run.

I'm for The Muppet Movie, Trainspotting, and Amelie. And Taxi Driver.

The Full Monty is very charming, but maybe not to interesting from a filmmaking perspective... for that you will want Run Lola Run or Trainspotting, as they both have a very unique visual style. Amelie is good but probably wont add up to a lot of views on Youtube from non-subscribers.

Amelie is a classic if you like quirky romantic movies. Butch and Sundance is a classic for a reason, and it was written by William Goldman (The Princess Bride). Trainspotting and Run Lola Run are worth seeing. I've heard great things about Sicario but I haven't watched it yet.

You're so international!

Run Lola Run is one of my favorites such a fun watch and Trainspotting is another great movie, such a great story.

Trainspotting is the only one I’ve seen, you should like it. Checkout Lock Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels too.

I wonder if the SAG strike would be a good time to watch some foreign movies: Amores Perros (Mexico, 2000), Raise the Red Lantern (China, 1991), Taste of Cherry (Iran, 1997), or Irma Vep (France, 1996).

Is there a P.O. Box to mail stuff to you. I got a DVD with a couple animated movies I think you will like.

Mike Fox

Trainspotting holds a special place for me. It's brilliant and atrocious, well written and disturbing. I was never a fan of Fully Monty. Amelie and Butch Cassidy are both freaking awesome. The others are famous and well regarded but I have no input on those.

May I suggest a Labor Day Movie Poll about women in the workforce: Norma Rae (1979) Sally Field Working Girl (1988) Melanie Griffith, Harrison Ford 9 to 5 (1980) Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin
