This one was nice for me to tackle while I'm still a tad sick. The next movie will be TOMBSTONE, you guys made an excellent case for that one!

Fun reaction. :) I think they were completely successful in going against convention. Rewatch it some day. Jack is completely the comedic sidekick. Wang is the hero. His dialogue was very much in the vein of the sort of ancient Chinese magic / martial arts movies they were...i dunno....not really parodying but ... referencing, maybe? The fans of the genre would have recognized what this movie was doing. I certainly didn't at the time. I just thought it was fun. :)

Yeah I was fearing that I missed a lot, by the end I was starting to get it! Wang talks like a sage but he's so young and small I almost miss that that's his character

Did you have fun on the ride?

I can't remember...what was Kurt Russell's character's name in this? I'd be down for some John Carpenter next month. The Fog, Village of the Damned, Body Bags are all pretty solid. Vampires and In the Mouth of Madness can be fun also for a first watch, but they're not ones I would rewatch very often. There is also a cult following for Prince of Darkness, but that's not one I've seen.

Shan's face at 1:31:50 said it all... It's been like 30 years since I saw this.... Now I remember why. Please return your seats and tray tables to their original upright positions and don't forget to pick up your gray matter on the way out the door. .... Future suggestion with Kurt is "Breakdown", although after a double feature you may look for a break.

I saw this back in 1986 and was unimpressed. I think I was expecting something more along the lines of Raiders of the Lost Ark, and not so comedic. A year or two later my friends rented it and we watched it in college, and I have been in love with it ever since. My recommendation: wait a year or so, smoke a bowl of really good Blue Dream, and buckle up.

I remember people were obsessed with martial arts in the 80s. "Karate Kid" was all the rage for a bit. But if martial arts with Western society and a lot of cheese is your bag, there's a plethora of titles out there.

I did notice the John Wayne influence when Kurt Russell was speaking. Ghostbusters 2 was at least sewer adjacent.

"Did you see it in 1986? Did you think it was cool or just weird?" "Yes."

I used to watch the 80s Chinese kung fu movies so I liked this the 1st time I saw it. It was an American kung fu movie. I always liked how Jack carried his saddle bags with him like a cowboy

Have you ever seen a Shaw Brothers kung fu movie?
