Okay let's talk about Halloween/spooky stuff! I love to ask, what will I like? and what needs to live on my channel? I like that I'm creating my own little repertoire over there :)

Tremors (happening!)

Psycho

Tusk (a live-stream fav)

The Fly (another live fav)

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Se7en

Death Becomes Her (perhaps not spooky)

Teen Wolf (for fun!?)

Let's also talk sequels...Halloween 2, Friday the 13th Part II, Exorcist 2 (I believe everyone said 3 is good, but not 2)

*I've never really done a deep dive on which sequels are worth it so if there are any strong opinions please let's get into it!

Psycho is an all timer. It's one of Hitchcocks best. Psycho II is an incredible sequel and Psycho III is good too. If you want a suggestion for a fun but well made horror, I recommend 1985's Fright Night. It can be scary, funny and has excellent practical effects. Its so 80's and so good!!

matt

You're gonna watch Tusk? Brave woman. That one will stay with you for a while.

Hemichanga

If you want a classic that's unintentionally so bad, that it's great - Maximum Overdrive. The only film Stephen King directed himself. My other favorites I think you'd like are Christine Poltergeist Hellraiser - you'd dig the gross out body horror Videodrome - more great body horror Sequels - Halloween 4 Return of Michael Myers Friday the 13th part 4 Hellraiser 2 Child's Play 2 Psycho II

matt

Oh, you'll get the movie! There's nothing difficult to understand, it's a very well made film. It's just going to live in your head for a while after you see it.

smithfan22

Sure! And Tarantino has even said Psycho II is his favorite, which says alot about the quality of it.

Tom B

Psycho is top tier Hitchcock and Teen Wolf should definitely be on this list!

Paul Cox

If you watch Teen Wolf, you can play a game of "spot the extra's exposed penis."

Echo

Death Becomes Her is *amazing*. Needs to be on your watch list, even if not in October. Especially because they just made a Broadway Play. I have not seen Tusk and it's not something I planned to watch. Gross-out horror is not my jam, but people who like that sort of thing *really* like it. Se7en for sure! Oh lort that movie.... Not really October-specific either? It's a psychological horror more than spooky horror. I am surprised you haven't seen Psycho? Definitely that. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one everyone likes to watch around Halloween. Again, not my jam but kind of necessary for foundational purposes, lol. Poltergeist would be another good one. 1-3 if you're going to watch. 3 still scares me today (no spoilers on why tho, lol). Arachnophobia- I have it and the movie didn't help, lol. Lost Boys- fun 80s vampire movie. *People Under the Stairs*! Totally under-watched cult classic. Great flick. Not sure how Halloween-ish it is, but it's a horror/thriller and is topical in the "landlords suck" era, lol. Teen Wolf is fun, for sure, definitely good to watch. Another fun one that I have been recommending and finally seeing more discussion on: Buffy the Vampire Slayer *movie*. I love that movie. I never got into the show.

Paul Cox

Yeah, the Buffy film is great. Paul Reubens created a character there that equalled Pee-wee in charming ridiculousness.

Paul Cox

Gore/body horror is usually where I check out when it comes to scary movies, but I think you'll find that The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is more bark than bite. It's eerie as hell, but I can get through the whole thing without even looking away (can't do that with The Fly, though!) As for sequels, the only one I'd go to bat for is Psycho II. The whole Halloween series got ludicrous and thematically messy and the filmmaking suffered as well. Friday the 13th was never any good to begin with. Have not seen Exorcist II, but the original is so phenomenal that it almost feels offensive that sequels even exist. This is one that you might have already seen, but I'm a HARD YES on Tucker & Dale vs. Evil as far as more contemporary fare goes.

Kevin Charley

The best of Kevin Smith's horror films is probably Red State, but I don't know if that's available anywhere. I haven't seen Tusk though so I can't really say that Red State is better. As for the sequels, Halloween and Friday the 13th 2 are both OK. Definitely skip Exorcist 2 and go straight to 3.

Chris Bruneau

how about: Frailty, Hereditary, the Ring, bram stoker's Dracula, or Sleepy Hollow?? all varying degrees of spooky!

Justin Gonyea

I’ll throw my hat in for Psycho II and Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, as well. Another fun one would be The Cabin in the Woods.

Shawn Goforth

Fright Night from 85 is fantastic, and I will also chime in to say Psycho II gets a lot of critical praise, as far as horror sequels go. The only other throwback sequels I would be interested in would be the Nightmare series. Friday the 13th gets worse and worse as you go through them.

Shawn Goforth

TEEN WOLF, please! Psycho and The Fly should definitely be covered. I wouldn't really call Se7en a scary movie. It's more of a suspenseful criminal investigation.

Hemichanga

The Faculty!!! Everything about that movie is good, stellar cast

Echo

The Ring! Maybe a compare/contrast between the original Japanese Ringu and American? Not sure how hard having the Japanese version would be. I watched it around 1999 on a tape with subtitles a friend of mine had imported. This is a whole series with sequels and spinoff radio shows and stuff, but I never got into all that.

Ethan Wallace

I'm excited for all of the above, especially Psycho, The Fly, and Teen Wolf. As for sequels, I love Halloween II (1981) The Exorcist III and most of the Nightmare and Friday the 13th sequels to varying degrees. Most of them weren't critical or financial darlings, but I love them for how immortal the characters have become and for the journey they take you on. Plus Friday the 13th parts 2 and 3 are firsts for the franchise for specific reasons. Speaking on Horror movies in general, I love all of the Evil Dead movies(the original trilogy and the new ones)...they really made a name for Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell. Drag Me to Hell (another Sam Raimi.) Also Peter Jackson's Dead Alive (1992) is quite a spectacle. Since you don't like LOTR, you may like that because they are polar opposites. Just to name a few...I've loved horror my whole life, and have many favorites and strong opinions. To go into all of them would take too long right now. Sorry for the book.

daniel j brooks

i am all about Fright Night. Been watching that movie ever since i was a toddler!!! (i had a single mom, i watched whatever she was watching.)

Burwinkle Hendershot

I'm not a fan of horror, so I won't be much use. Teen Wolf sounds fun, as so Nightmare Before Christmas (you've probably already seen it), Hocus Pocus (which I've never seen), or some other "fun" Halloween movie.

Burwinkle Hendershot

Dracula: Dead and Loving It? A lesser Mel Brooks, but still a Mel Brooks, and season appropriate of course.

shanellericcio

okay cool I have some research to do! and thanks for the lowdown on Texas Chainsaw...it feels like something I just do need to see since its a gap in my movie history!

Ethan Wallace

As an addendum to my above comment...I was also reminded of Night of the Creeps and The Blob (1988.) They are two cult classics that deserve to be considered as well.

Mike Fox

Wow, Teen Wolf is a nostalgia favorite with Michael J. Fox. It's 80's camp all the way. Tremors looks downright terrifying next to it so. Se7en and Psycho get a vote here. If I might add a Kevin Bacon movie I like for Halloween: Stir of Echoes. A little less Tremors camp and a little more Edgar Allen Poe.

Jay Perry

Teen Wolf and Death Becomes Her. Humor with the horror.

Paul Cox

I see you've got Teen Wolf in the can now. Unless I'm mistaken, this feat hasn't been replicated since. The weekend Teen Wolf came out, it debuted at #2 in box office results, immediately behind Back To The Future at #1. Michael J. Fox had the lead role in the top two grossing films at the exact same time.

Paul Cox

Also, I don't think Family Ties was the #1 show on tv (that was likely Cosby), but it was definitely up there. 1985 belonged to MJF.

Travis Nickerson

There is a great Michael J Fox movie from his younger days called The Secret of My Success. I would love to see you react to that movie. It is such a charming movie. Maybe for November after Halloween.

Gilbert Gonzalez

A good October movie that’s also Micheal J. Fox lead is The Frighteners. Directed by Peter Jackson with some pretty cool visuals and effects. Also Don’t Breathe is a pretty good horror-thriller.
