I went 20 years between seeing this for the first time and the second. The arm-wrestling scene was still burned into my memory from childhood. Like Courtney, I was way too young. I might have been 7 or 8.

John Landis famously doubled down on the bladder effect in Michael Jackson's Thriller video, after American Werewolf. You saw the same effect in Scott Howard's bathroom in Teen Wolf. On The Blob...I would recommend this version of The Fly over the 50s atomic age creature feature (Vincent Price is great, but it's a very different approach); however, the original Blob with Steve McQueen, from 1958, is far superior to the 80s schlock-fest version.

The technique used in melting the hand look like the same one used at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. As far as sending something living as a test, I would of used a plant first. I like in the scene in the beginning when they get a cheeseburger, the high shot shows a woman going from the counter to a booth. Then when we go to a close up of Jeff we see her walking behind him. Another movie where the effects looked good and CGI might of been over the top.
