In 1982 I was too young to watch "the dark crystal" (because I was only 2yo) but then I first saw it around 1986/87 and by then "labyrinth" had came out, I saw that and between the 2 "labyrinth" was my favorite. Yeah those vulture looking puppets were scary as anything. Thanks for my first shout-out shanelle it was very much appreciated and needed ❤️👍

I remember seeing it not in '82 but in '84 on video. At a cabin. By a lake. In the dark. I wasn't scared but I remember stopped watching it. Didn't like the Skeksis much!

So when I rewatched this a few years ago I realized Kira is the heroine/badass in this movie. She gets them out of all the trouble and does all the heavy lifting to keep the movie going. The orrery in Aughra's house is quite the set piece. When the Chamberlain was talking in the ruins, I could hear a little bit of Grover (which Frank Oz did both). The behind the scenes video you are looking for (if you haven't found it already) is called The World of the Dark Crystal. Here's the link https://youtu.be/--0xBC0SotY

I wasn’t scared of them but i did think the birds were ugly lol. If they made this now (like it was a new idea) it would be 80% cgi and 20% realistic almost like Alice in wonderland with Johnny Depp

I saw this in '82 (at age 11) and loved it. It didn't give me nightmares, but definitely creepy as hell. Was a huge Muppets and Star Wars fan so this was a perfect movie for me.
