"Total Recall" and "Robocop" were Paul verhoeven's 2 best movies. Shanelle, the scene where Mr. Kenny gets shot to bits, there is an extended scene of that where he is lying bleeding on the model city and you see Mr. Kenny getting shot even more by ed-209 and to cap that scene off was the funniest line of the film"quick somebody get a medic".......🤔 em forget the medic and head straight to the morgue. Enjoy your weekend.

Oh, man! another 80s film from my childhood. My Dad took me --on the way home: "don't tell your Mom about the all the blood and guts, Okay?" suuuure, its was just a boring sci-fi pick

Definitly do more Verhoeven. He's got his sci-fi trifecta, but movies like Basic Instinct and Showgirls are also recommended, it's genre defining stuff.

As violent as this was, I think you had the rated version, bc I kept needing to pause my unrated director's cut to catch up, and it was always around the bloodiest violence. There were a few shots trimmed each time, so I'm guessing that was to get the R rating. Also- Applause for "Robowife". I need that sequel.

If you're interested in reading more about the making of this movie and the political commentary surrounding it, I would recommend this article from one of my favorite sites. It's very in-depth, includes some great stills, and is current (published this summer). It's called "Trickle Down Robonomics- The Predatory Capitalism of 'Robocop'." https://cinephiliabeyond.org/robocop/

Looking forward to it. Starship Troopers is the third in the Ver-hoe-ven trilogy, and if you don't find yourself sick of Schwarzenegger afterwards, The Running Man is another great dystopian 80s Sci-fi film, adapted from Stephen King.

Jason McNeil

I was hoping you would see Kurtwood Smith in the movie and react to him being the bad guy. This movie could of used CGI because the stop motion isn't that good. It's like the movement from frame to frame is too big.

Saw this on video and back then the visuals were amazing, especially the scenes with ED 209. I got some of the satire, but not all of it since I was only 16. Over the years, I got a better idea of some of the more subtle subtext and think thats why I enjoy this movie so much.

shanellericcio

yeah I felt like he was a weird choice for a villain but then I was like well he's kinda mean to Eric on that 70s show lol

shanellericcio

yeah it totally is elevated by everything else going on

The stop motion animation in this film was performed by Phil Tippett, who is the absolute best in the industry. The stop motion in this film was first-rate.

Late to the party, as usual. I can think of something that feels better than being right: canceling plans. Oh, the rush of calm and relief the moment after you cancel... 😉
