I have read the books twice (am on my third copy of the Increasingly Inaccurately Named Trilogy) and have listened to the radio play at least once. This movie doesn't even scratch the surface of the other books. It does cover the events in the first book; well mostly. Leaving the theatre I had a discussion with my friend over the Humma part which is not in the book. I didn't think that Douglas would have put that in but I was rebuffed that he was constantly altering or adapting the story and that this is just a regional galaxy adaptation so I think that works well enough. The books are about as silly as the movie and they are a delight to read even without a degree in bistromaths. Also the books are incredibly short. Really enjoyed hearing your point-of-view for this! :)

I've never seen "the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy" before and it was a fun and quirky film. Those vogon alien costumes were great. Warwick Davis who played the physical form of Marvin is one of my favorite British actors especially for the films "willow" where he played the title character and star wars: return of the jedi where he played wicket the ewok.

As mentioned above, the movie really only covers stuff in the first book/story. The rest of the series is funny and silly, but has some strikingly profound and deep moments that have stuck with me. Douglas Adams wrote it originally as a radio play/series. He also rewrote it multiple times. This movie is one version of the story. It's extremely funny as a radio series and in book form, there's a ton of asides, random diversions and sometimes comes across as stream of consciousness that is especially challenging to translate into a movie format. There are always going to be fans that don't love how it's translated onto the big screen, but I personally love this movie. It's silly, it has heart and the actors are fantastic.

I'm going to get nerdy for a second. The Betelgeuse star is the right shoulder of the constellation Orion.
