Nice red and pink hairdo by the way 😘. After directing and starring in dances with wolves, the only other western movies that KC has been in were: Wyatt Earp (1994) which he starred and produced it, and the other was open range (2003) which he directed and starred in but dances with wolves is such an epic movie that it thoroughly deserved its Oscars.

I was a projectionist for Cinemark when this film was released. At that time it was the longest film I had ever built up. It came in on ten reels. It nearly didn't fit on the platter. And that was the (obviously) the theatrical cut.

such a beautifully shot picture--Costner loves the wide-open vistas. I saw this with my Dad on the big screen!! Shan, if you like this, check out Open Range (another great Costner film!!)

I hear what your saying about voice-over, if the voice of someone is feeling pride in something then say so with a bit of oompf and joy in the voice and not a 😐 down beat and unappreciated type of sounding voice.

I wouldn't worry about your criticisms of the voice-over tone. It does sound like Kevin Costner delivering a melancholy summation, but he tends to use that pitch regardless of what events are taking place. It stands out more, because we are seeing it unfold as the story happened. Maybe his choice for the tone in the narration could be seen as retrospective, looking back on his life.

Regarding Costner's voice, it has never once bothered me. I always assumed the narration was his reading of the diary, and so I just accepted it. Regarding the film, I consider it one of the greatest westerns ever filmed, and certainly the last great epic western ever released. I do prefer the Expanded Edition. As far as your thoughts on his accent go, Costner cannot do accents. He can't do any at all. He tried his hardest on Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, but he failed miserably and ended up sounding really no different than he did here.

i was a projectionist when Lord of the Rings II came out. 10 reels is pushing a platter to the limit.

Kevin Costner is known for his accents...lol

For me, got this as a gift on vhs. I watches it and thought it was boring. But I watched Shanelle's reaction for Shanelle.

I'm new here, I tried to follow along using 123movies and it kept freezing lol. I'd prefer not subscribing to whatever streaming service it on, any suggestions?
