Paul verhoeven seems to like chopping off actor Michael Ironside's upper limbs and lower limbs in his films because if you remember it was Michael's arms that got chopped off in Total Recall and then his legs in this. Also the bug effects were amazing in this. A good movie.

The scene where they are dissecting the bugs in class the teacher is played by Rue McClanahan who played Blanche in the golden girls in the 1980's. Also shanelle you mentioned that Major Payne was one of your favorite films as a kid, well that was a funny movie with Damon wayans and directed by halloween's original Michael Myers actor Nick Castle

djKENTO

one of my top 5 comfort movies.

If you listen to the audio commentary on the disc, they say so many people in the test audience told them they killed the wrong girl. And that’s actually what I thought when I walked out of the theater.

I'm surprised that even though Shanelle knew what to expect from Verhoeven, it seems like she still assumed this movie to be a straightforward sci-fi movie instead of the most on the nose satire of Verhoeven's sci-fi films. That being said, I knew plenty of people during my time in the military that completely missed the "fascist american utopia" satire of this movie and took it as seriously as something like Aliens.

No Philip K. Dick this time. This novel is by Robert Heinlein, one of the three grand masters of classic science fiction, along with Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke. The lack of investment in the destruction of Buenos Aires is absolutely a script issue from adaptation, more than a story problem. I will say that I agree with your wrap-up (and so would the author) that this entire book is, hands down, a militaristic, heavily conservative view of the future. I appreciated the satiric bend that the screenwriters chose, in the end. My uncle worshiped this writer in his childhood, and I remember him disliking this movie with a passion. I can enjoy it a lot now, after a few viewings, but I also understand that my uncle was a big Rush Limbaugh fan...and I just was not. That being said, Heinlein also wrote Stranger in a Strange Land, which changed my life for the better.

All this talk about Hot People, but girlfriend, you IS Hot People.😉

Have you ever seen Full Metal Jacket? If so, I have a comment to make about the two movies. Just a piddly comment, but I don't want to spoil FMJ for you.

You dislike people complimenting and boosting one another? That's a strange position to take.

When I click the link for the video it tells me the video doesn’t exist…am I missing something? I love Starship Troopers and I need your Starship Troopers reaction video in my life!

Wow, the link not working only happens when using the patreon app. On the desktop website everything works fine. This is the first time I’ve encountered this issue.

I thought this was pretty bad satire in retrospect despite knowing it was, i think if i didn’t go in knowing it— it would’ve missed me. Did you happen to catch my outtro when i touch on it?

I feel like the point was to poke fun at the rush Limbaugh types and yet; this movie became something they worship!? Ha i think they might’ve missed the mark on the satire for me 😅 this was a tough one for me

I find the app to be terrible! It’s not just you; i always have to paste the links outside of the app to get anything working.
