Maverick

Silverado

Tron

VALENTINE'S DAY IDEAS

Shakespeare in Love* (A frontrunner for me)

Romeo + Juliet

Comments

Paul Cox

Cinderella Man and Fury Road are the only ones here I'd cape for, but tbh I could stand to see Romeo + Juliet again with fresh perspective. I was pretty salty in the 90s.

Hemichanga

Fury Road was so good! For more picks, I'd recommend Desperado (1995) Friday (1995) Shawshank Redemption (1994) Before Sunrise (1995)

matt

"Moonstruck" is a classic for Valentines Day! Which version of R&J are you thinking?

Robert J Skinner

So I married an axe murder is just good old fashioned 90s campy comedy. Can't wait for some classic Mike Meyers.

Paul Cox

One necessary add to your western canon is The Quick and the Dead. Sharon Stone! Russell Crowe! Leo! Gene Hackman! Tonally, it's the perfect midpoint in Sam Raimi's filmography between the Evil Deads and Spider-Man.

Kenneth Smith

My pick. So I Married An Axe Murderer

JD Onesi

Shakespeare in Love for sure

Rebecca Karsner

Nightcrawler, Into the Wild, Ingrid Goes West, Jojo Rabbit, RENT, Mystic River, Bottoms, Man on Fire, End of Watch

Bill W

Axe Murderer is so hilarious!!!

Paul Cox

Specifically for V-Day, you could watch An Affair To Remember. That's the Cary Grant/Deborah Kerr movie that was referenced a dozen times in Sleepless in Seattle. Trust that the way Rita Wilson gets so emotional when recounting a scene from it is how I feel when watching it too. It's a stunner.

Bill W

More picks? Patriot Games - 1992, Harrison Ford, Sean Bean, James Earl Jones, Samuel L. pedantech

Please consider Ghost (1990) for Valentine's Day.

Chris Bruneau

Shanelle, Shakespeare in Love is a fantastic film, the writing is super smart and witty! (lots of hidden shakespeare references!)

John Neiberger

I would love to see someone react to The Lives of Others. It's subtitled since it's in German, but holy cats...it's amazing. I agree with others who suggested Nightcrawler, Mystic River, and Shawshank Redemption.

SilentBobFather

Clerks 3 coming soon? Warning you will need tissues.

daniel j brooks

Ironman, great Black Sabbath tune... from this list the choice is easy. obviously it is Maverick because, Jodie Foster. also, i am a space nerd so im going to keep bringing up First Man for forever. idc if im the only who liked that movie!!!

MzForza

Mad Max & 💯💯💯Romeo & Juliet

Paul Cox

I liked First Man when I actually saw it, but when it was out in theaters I was like "Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong? Yeah, right." But it's very very good!

Tom B

So many good choices to choose from! Deadpool can *totally* pass for a February movie. You already know at least two of my votes (Ghost would also be an excellent choice as well). Axe Murderer & Shakespeare In Love for sure; possibly.. Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet. All could be your top leads for the month. Whichever you decide to pick we will enjoy!

Christopher Mitchell

Mad max fury road, sin city, Deadpool, Iron man, maverick, silverado and so I married an axe murderer are really good movies and choices as for the rest I've never seen them. For a valentines day pick how about John carpenters Christine 😆 it might be a horror/thriller but it's also romantic movie 😆 because of the love between a boy and his car. But seriously now, an officer and a gentleman with Richard Gere is a nice valentines day movie.

My Ex Boyfriend

Deadpool as the Valentine’s Day movie otherwise Romeo + Juliet. Sin City and Cinderella Man would be great movies this month.

Mark flear

Fer V day youz needs The movie Valentine’s day Taylor swift in that always makes me laugh.,

Christopher Mitchell

As for maverick shanelle even though u haven't seen it it yet it has the lethal weapon connection. Maverick directed by Richard Donner (who also has an uncredited role as a card dealer) and starring Mel Gibson and also an uncredited Danny Glover in a cameo role as a (sorry for the spoiler) bank robber.

Ethan Wallace

Good choice on Deadpool, I fully support your decision to watch what you want. (IYKYK) Film is subjective...what others like you may not enjoy, and vice versa. (Speaking to MIB 3.) Everybody has an opinion, but it won't be the same for everyone. Funnily enough, Deadpool opened Valentine's Day weekend of 2016...after all, it is a love story! It's great you're going to do it this month. I'm also down for So I Married an Axe Murderer, and I was partial to the idea during the stream of Roman Holiday...one of my all time faves. Besides those, I'm not picky...I'll support and watch anything you choose to watch.

MotoDork

Are we just suggesting any old film for you to watch? If so… I haven’t been completely through your backlog but if you haven’t seen the Director’s cut of Watchmen, that’s a great one.

Caren Helms

I adore Silverado for a VERY young Kevin Costner, among other fantastic performances. For Valentine’s Day, nothing will ever top So I Married An Axe Murderer (though I do love Shakespeare In Love also).

Dawlface Jesi

Can you get some heist movies in your list!?

Bill W

I feel like Shan may have watched Shawshank off the channel, but I'm not sure.

Elliot Nesterman

Really"Shakespeare in Love" is delightful. For a Western let me suggest "Stagecoach" (1939). I watched it for the first time a few years ago because it is a highly influential film, was John Ford's first sound Western, and was John Wayne's breakout movie. I was surprised at how good I found it and how well it holds up. It is essential viewing for anyone interested in the development of American cinema, and especially for the development of Westerns. For a romance let me add "An Affair to Remember" (1957) to the mix. Starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr, it is considered one of the most romantic films ever made. It's so romantic that Nora Ephron explicitly referenced it in "Sleepless in Seattle."

Justin Keith

Please anything but Shakespeare in Love! 😢 That movie robbed Saving Private Ryan of best picture in 98/99 Oscars. It's OK but nothing compared to SPR. My vote is So I Married An Axe Murderer. Mike Myers' most natural role.

Saiman

I've seen all these except Apocalypto, and Silverado. At least I don't remember seeing Silverado. So all that to say it's all good. I say it's your channel do what you want. As I said before, true fans support you no matter what.

Adam Doyle

I hate to mess up your schedule, but if you haven't seen the Xmen franchise, you will be missing a lot of references and jokes if you skip right to Deadpool. Like the Marvel movies, it makes a difference if you watch it in the correct order.

Adam Doyle

SIn City is a great noir thriller, perfect for a film expert. Maverick (i assume the Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster one) is a fun romp (romp? yes romp!). For Valentine's day my vote is So I Married An Axe Murderer, but baz lurhmann's ROmeo and Juliet is a 90's classic.

Paul Cox

I'd offer the counterpoint that I saw Deadpool at least 15 years after I'd last seen an X-Men film and it didn't hinder my enjoyment one bit.

Saiman

So patreons can sponsor to get a certain movie watched?

cjeastt

Fury Road 100%

Burwinkle Hendershot

Sin City is great unique filmmaking. Fury Road is just frenetic fun. Have you ever seen Dark City (1998)? I think you'd enjoy that, too. A weird mind-trippy film.

Reggie

For Valentine's Day? How about War of the Roses? :)

Jay Perry

Sin City and Maverick. Please.

Bill W

Apocalypto and So I Married an Axe Murderer!

Bill W

I think just seeing the first X-Men (2000) would be sufficient.
