Hey everyone! This is a quick video about my trip to Denver, I needed to get it out quickly for various reasons, Including the Moffat Tunnel Lease news.

But this isn't the big video that I've been working on, that will be out next week for the holidays so look forward to that!

Happy holidays and let's hope I can keep this video pacing up 🤙

Not related to this video at all but I wanted to expound on something I noticed in a fleeting glimpse in the background during your Suntrain video, i.e., the self-driving railcar (SDR, my made-up acronym) concept. I apologize for the long comment but I have to bounce this idea off someone (including fellow Patreons) who might take this seriously. I know Adam Something mocked the concept (and rightly so given the way the promoters of the concept conceived it). But I think there is a real application; the off-loading of container ships. I live in So Cal where the unloading of ships at the ports of LA and Long Beach result in huge numbers of trucks then clogging the already overly crowded freeways (and yes, more transit in So Cal please). A crane could place a container directly on a SDR which could use the current rail corridors to new railyards in the exurbs where the containers would be transferred to trucks or even a standard container railcar. These large multimodal yards could be in the Inland Empire, or even near Victorville and Palm Springs. This would remove a lot of truck traffic out of the LA Basin. I can totally see automated railcar after automated railcar zipping its way through the Alameda Corridor to a new multimodal center in Beaumont (midway between Riverside and Palm Springs). I can especially SDRs being sent to the monster Amazon distribution facility in San Bernardino. Anyway, sorry for the long comment and you may not even see it since this video is over a week old but I just wondered if it's a valid concept or completely hare-brained.

I do think that there are applications for "self powered" rail cars that Intramotev is building. I've actually had a call with them before and might get to go out to one of their mining operations this year to cover how they intend to scale things up. Either way I appreciate the thoughts, its definitely been at the back of my mind for a topic to cover

I was a bit disappointed that these issues weren’t covered on the DenverUrbanism podcast you did. Discussing the issues in a conversation is different than crafting a story in video format, so they are complimentary, not duplicative.
