Great video! Question can you post a video about Amtrak's RFPs (I think) on their long distance train rolling stock replacement? Amtrak issued a RFP quietly last year, and no one in the news discussed it.

The need to make a difference for the better in this world; that’s me as well! Also can’t wait for your sleeper train video. In the same way high speed rail is good for 200-500 miles, I think night trains (even if at todays 50-80mph speeds), are great to act as a hotel on wheels for that distance. I really hope Brightline will eventually have a line long enough for night trains; a luxurious Brightline style sleeper train would be awesome. One idea I had is for Brightline and Amtrak to team up to improve the quality / speed of the New York Florida night trains by rebuilding the S-Line to allow for 110mph and higher capacity, and then running Amtrak trains down Brightline tracks in Florida.

I'd love a video on NYC congestion pricing if you'll be covering current events. There's a ton of juicy political/social/urbanist intersecting interests there so that could be a fun watch. Or maybe a frustrating/bittersweet watch but that's like all US transit content.

Yeah I'll be talking about that and their rehab program in the sleeper train video when that comes out (probably in late october)

Your position on nationalization seems most appropriate here. What makes sense to me is to select core trunk lines and nationalize the infrastructure for both passenger and freight services, with an emphasis on moving people faster. A 4-track segment from about Lancaster to Chicago, with separate connections to NY, Philly, and DC seems logical and ultimately cost effective

Tom Croke

I don't understand why you focus on Lancaster. How many tracks would be needed would depend on what trains would be using it. Remember that in the Pennsylvania Railroad days this was a four track line from NYC to Chicago (although some track sections east of the Rockville Bridge near Harrisburg involved two different routings of two tracks each.

Awesome video, can’t wait for the rolling stock shortage video, doing the capital limited from Chicago to DC in 3 weeks. You’re fighting the good fight.
