Please read my thoughts on this first.

So I've avoided doing a video on this topic because I feel like both sides have a point, but also both sides of hating/wanting the arena are very toxic. I think that there are plenty of other things I could put my effort into that are more productive than talking about the arena.

But on the other hand this is probably one of the biggest planning issues in Philly at the moment and it's probably worth giving people a nuanced view of what's happening.

So what do you all think?

IMO the discourse surrounding this is too toxic and tied up in a lot of cultural stuff and it makes enemies out of friends

Totally respect your decision if you decide against it, but I'd really love to hear your take on this. I've heard convincing arguments both ways, not sure what to believe at this point. A Center City stadium would be fun and vitalizing Market East would be a great thing, but not if it comes at the expense of seriously harming Chinatown. But would it really be as bad as people say, or are people just being overly paranoid because of what happened to DC's Chinatown? And to be fair, the slow death of DC's Chinatown was awful and should never happen here, so I can't blame residents at all for feeling anxious. But the new stadium wouldn't even be in Chinatown proper, so would it even get close to that point?

Subsidizing sports arenas are a grotesque use of tax dollars!

It seems like a very specific and localized topic. Would the majority of the viewers be able to take away anything educational from it...? Edit: to clarify I have never heard of it before but reading the other comments it seems to be about a basketball stadium somewhere in the US, so idk what would be there to say about building giant sports stadiums that hasn't already been said many times.

I'd hate for you to feel bogged down by weighing in on it, but if you think it's worth discussing I'm sure it would be interesting.

The short gist of it is that the new Arena would be built on top of and next to a train station, making it one of the easiest event spaces to reach with transit in the area. But it would be going up next to Chinatown, and Chinatown has been notoriously screwed over by past city projects like the Convention center and i676. The Arena would not be in Chinatown, just Adjacent, but the residents are still concerned about it

Actually this Arena would be entirely funded with Private money without the cities help. Definitely Unique

This could be a good segue topic to talk about equity in projects and the complexities and the history around that in the Philly area.

I ended up swtiching my vote after I actually visited Philly. This arena going to take away the Greyhound bus terminal!
