I noticed something the moment my consciousness fully arrived in The Walking Dead universe.
How could I not?
It hit like a shot of pure sunshine mixed with a warm breeze on a lazy Sunday afternoon—the kind where you swing in a hammock, half-asleep, while your baby's laughter drifts through the air. Like that deep, bone-melting glow after you bury yourself balls-deep in your lover, her skin slick and hot against yours in the afterglow of raw, mind-blowing sex, when the whole fucked-up universe finally shuts up for a minute. Contentment wrapped around my soul like a thick blanket on a freezing night, chasing off the chill of death that clung to everything in this apocalypse.
My soul sang, raw and fierce, and with every passing second I felt more. More solid. More real. More substantial in ways that were impossible to put into words. And I could feel them—thousands, tens of thousands, maybe a hell of a lot more—thinking of me. Praising me. Thanking me. Praying to me like I was the last god left standing in this walker-infested graveyard. I couldn't make out the individual words, thank goodness, but the connection burned through me like a live wire. All that desperate faith and hope pouring straight into my veins, feeding the power humming under my skin.
It confused the hell out of me and terrified me in equal measure, though it was damn near impossible to hold onto that fear when waves of raw love and adoration kept crashing over me from so many souls at once.
