"Chubby" (Patreon)
Content
I normally don't check comments on social media posts because I try to post art and then get back to work or whatever else asap because I don't want social media to become a time sink. But recently I decided to check the comments from my last reddit posts because I noticed it got a lot of upvotes. Apparently a lot of people liked the recent summer pin up I did of Ellie, but majority of the comments were shitting on me for calling her "chubby'". They were gatekeeping the term because they felt like Ellie wasn't "big" enough to be described in that way even though chubbiness is a spectrum. The post was deleted by mods or the filters, but you can still read the comments here. [apparently the post was reinstated recently as of 8/15. It was up for a while and got a lot of traction, then taken down, and now it's up again. That's odd...]The other post is still up here. For the record, I am a chubbier, fluffier, more marshmallowy woman than Ellie. I'm also Asian, so I was definitely considered chubby by my family and by Asian standards. I've been bullied by my family for my weight and called really mean things by strangers on the street when I visited my family's home country. I know from personal experience that my body type and Ellie's body type is NOT the norm there. I'm also bi, so I do like a bit of chub on bodies like Ellie's and even chubbier bodies than hers personally. It's not for brownie points or whatever people were thinking; skinny, fit, thick, chubby, etc--I just find all different body types on women attractive. I may not draw every single type I like, but I typically save that for my personal life.
Anyway, I've showed some pictures of what I look like on here. I'm a bigger lady, so I don't care if someone smaller with less stretch marks than me calls themselves chubby because growing up, the term originally referred to someone with a little extra cushion, whether they are on the smaller end of the spectrum or bigger. I don't know why it matters to people since I was just sharing a drawing I liked and promoting my work like everyone else. I'm not going to bother to explain that to people on reddit, but I thought I'd share it here because the whole thing was silly. [I did end up defending myself but I won't let that distract me from my work]Redditors can be fucking vicious lol they were also shitting on me for drawing a self-insert as if creating fiction / fantasy that caters to yourself and others like you is a moral failing and a heinous crime?? 😂They say "write what you know"; I don't know anyone better than I know myself.I'm not going to dox myself to prove a point, but here's a less flattering photo of my waist. I'm definitely a "marshmallow" girl and I like drawing a bit of squish. It genuinely is just cute to me--I don't think more needs to be said.
