I feel like the world is becoming less empathetic and far more punitive towards people who are "weird". By "weird" I mean that they are different, but not hurting anyone. I was reminded of that with the recent reddit "drama" about calling Ellie chubby for having a bit of extra fluff. People called me an asshole and a bad person for daring to refer to my character in that way because they didn't think she fit their Western definition of "chubby", when there are whole other cultures in which she would be considered just that. I do remember growing up experiencing a lot of judgement for things that were pretty innocuous. Things like speech problems and struggling to communicate with other kids because I was socially stunted and isolated in a family that mostly spoke in a 2nd language, or dressing in a way that's odd like Japanese fashion, or being interested in stuff like anime and manga. I of course received a lot of judgement for starting to draw NSFW and I still receive a lot of judgement for that from other artists and readers. The world is becoming more difficult and people are losing their patience because they're not happy. I'm miserable too because of the abuse I experienced growing up in a broken family, but I try to still be kind and polite to people. I don't go out of my way to attack people online or assign malicious intent to them when I don't know them. I think people need to chill out. Yeah, it's not easy out here. Everyone is suffering, but that doesn't make it ok to be cruel to others.
