Today I'm going to give you some tailor-made, bespoke, highly personalised poetry recommendations.

In fact, you're going to give these recommendations to yourself.

All you need to do is listen to a handful of poetry selections in this video and be attentive to where you feel yourself being pulled.

I won't tell you who these ten poets are.

Simply be on the look-out for 2-3 that you like.

Understanding is not key here. You can like these poems for any reason. You can like the sound, the way it looks printed, the imagery, the rhythm, the topic, anything.

Clicking the links below will be like walking through a secret door revealing the poet you like and a volume of their poetry you may wish to pursue.

No cheating! Listen first, then click through. The selections will also come up on the screen so you can read along with me.

THE POEMS

Please share which poems you personally responded to from this selection. It will be interesting to see if there are any collective favourites.

We can also do a round 2 with another selection of poems powerfully charged with meaning.

Happy poetising, everybody!

Tom Pearsall

This was a fun exercise. I listened to the poems one time and felt most positive about selection 1, 6, and 8. By the way, was there an autumn/winter theme to these selections? Seemed like it. I am a total noob when it comes to poetry and was intrigued to see what authors I was drawn to. I had never heard of number one but will check him out because that was my favorite.

That's a very nice selection. The autumn/winter theme wasn't deliberate, but perhaps my subconscious has been drawn to that recently.. I shall have to summer it up in the next selection. Oh, number one is tremendous. He was in a barroom fist-fight with Ernest Hemingway (several decades his senior) that spilled out onto the rainy sidewalk, and he also wrote a wonderful poem about the northern lights/aurora borealis.

3, 4,7 but if I had to pick just one 3. I’m not surprised by my favourite, there must of been a subconscious comfort in my old friend.
