This is the video lecture I am most proud of to date. Of course, I'm proud of all the lectures, with my personal favourites being those of Proust, Tolstoy, and Hesse. But this one received a whole heap of my heart and soul.

This lecture also has the longest running time of any single lecture at 1 hour 40 mins. So you might wish to divide it up or focus on your areas of interest.

For these purposes, I have provided timestamps grouped by chapter, and bolded some of my personal favourite parts.

We cover a lot of ground. If you already love the novel, I hope this lecture helps illuminate just why you love it, making your appreciation more robust. If you are still fresh to Cervantes, I hope this helps you fall in love as deeply as I am.

I’m starting Don Quixote today in my quest to read all the books I’ve missed by joining two years late! I must confess I have put this one off quite awhile. A teacher gave it to me to read in the 7th grade and it was awful. I couldn’t understand anything. I knew it was supposed to be a great book and I thought I was the problem. I knew nothing about different translations. Now thanks to Ben I understand I must have had bad translation. Maybe this will erase 7th grade failure. LOL

Marcela's speech! What a feminine icon. It is pretty funny that Don Quixote's response to her speech is, "wow, she's so beautiful." haha. Sometimes women feel as though our contribution is only ornamental, so I love that in the 1500s, Marcela was insisting she had more to offer. Secondly, I love the part where Ben talked about watching the watchers. That has made me think a lot about those in society who self-select to be moral leaders. It makes me think of the idea that no one is above reproach. We need a society of checks and balances.
