Dear Book Club Readers ---

I hope your reading is treating you well!

Here's a little bit of Book Club housekeeping/admin for the month.

1) A very warm HLBC welcome to new patrons

Welcome aboard, and thank you for reading with us!

Do let us know which book(s) you're enjoying at the moment and what life is looking like for you.

2) Coffee with Hardcore Literature

Do you have any questions about reading the Great Books? Or, indeed, anything else?

If so, please do let me know either here or PM me and I would love to sit down with a coffee and record my answers.

Here are the last three Q&A episodes:

3) Bookish Content

Our deep reading of James Joyce's Ulysses continues with one of the most musical and eccentric episodes in all of literature. We've also kicked off a rich discussion about the vampire and gothic literature with Bram Stoker's Dracula.

In addition to Dracula, we'll also be discussing ghosts, evil spirits, the occult, and the possessing power of music with J. Meade Falkner's 'The Lost Stradivarius,' a literary gem deserving of great love and close reading.

We'll shortly be appreciating some Victorian poetry, short horror stories, the next instalment of George Eliot's Middlemarch, a few more pages of Proust's Search, and, having just appreciated Much Ado About Nothing, we'll soon be moving into our cycle of winter plays.

4) Secret Dickens & Next Year's Schedule

We will be revealing our Secret Dickens before the month is out, and the book club schedule for next year will be announced in late November. I'm incredibly excited because we're going to be reading many truly remarkable works of great literature.

5) Thank you for your great comments

Thank you for continuing to make this such an amazing community to lovingly discuss great literature. You continue to warm my heart with your passionate, intelligent, and inspiring comments. I'm so grateful for you all, and I'm currently enjoying making my way through our discussion threads.

And that's all for now, folks!

Happy reading, and let us know if you have any questions for our Q&A show!

Hello! I just joined today! Greetings from across the pond! I stumbled upon your group after I had a book club discussion with my cousins who live various places. We discussed "Frankenstein" and I realized that mot everyone is as hungry to learn more about literature as myself! I'm very much looking forward to reading with all of you!

Hello Erika :) Welcome to the club! We're all so thrilled to have you reading with us here. How exciting to hear that you and your cousins have been discussing Frankenstein, one of my personal favourite works of literature!

Hello Ben. Found out about your Book Club from watching some of your YouTube videos. I joined the Book Club earlier in the month and thus far have completed "Persuasion" and "Dracula". I've also recently read "Crime and Punishment" and "Moby Dick" so I was able to deepen my understanding of these great works through your postings. I must say that the best part of my day has become pairing my morning reading with your lectures. I'm gearing up for the Secret Dickens but in the meantime am reading "Of Time and the River" by Thomas Wolfe, one of my all-time favorite authors. "I've been collecting my favorite quotes from the book which reads very much like poetry. My favorite quote so far "it is not the death of the dying that is terrible, it is the death of the living".
