New to the group! I discovered this after searching for Anna Karenina commentaries on YouTube. I’m about 150 pages from the end of it and loving the archived Anna lectures here. Also about halfway through DeLillo’s White Noise and just started Rebecca Solnit’s Wanderlust: A History of Walking. I usually manage to finish a graphic novel in a day here and there. I like to juggle many books at once, in different genres so there’s always something to read that suits my mood. I live with my husband and teen son in a house in the middle of the forest two hours south of Portland, Oregon. We bought this acre and a half property and moved from the city 15 months ago since we work remotely. A huge dump of snow arrived three days ago that took power out until this morning, but I was cozy as can be sitting by the woodstove boiling water for coffee and reading my Tolstoy. 😌

Welcome to the club, Emily :) I must say a huge thank you to Tolstoy for bringing you here! I'm thrilled to hear you're reading Don DeLillo. 'White Noise' is my personal favourite work of his. Your lifestyle sounds like bliss to me! Being in the middle of a forest hours removed from the city is my dream! I'm quite rural myself at the moment, and ended up getting snowed in over Christmas. I loved having the fire crackling and a good book in my lap :)

Wish I could keep up with all of the posts here AND the club reading, but wanted to make mention of a Russian biopic of Tolstoy I found on the library-accessible streaming service Kanopy. Sergei Gerasimov’s 1984 “Lev Tolstoy” focuses on his later life, dividing it into a first segment “Insomnia” and second, “Departure”, which covers his leaving his estate and family, tracking him to his death.
