^^^ I literally had this hat in elementary school and thought I was so cool!!

I'm so excited for these polls! We are going to make a theme week out of it and do a Gold/Silver/Bronze and watch the top three!

So the top 3 from this poll will go against the top 3 from the other poll in a final poll-which will actually be on YT ! Does that make sense?

Also-already going to watch MIRACLE

Ps-Already have seen Cool Runnings

Pss-Also going to have a Paris Movie Poll in honor of the Paris Olympics

Need to include THE SWIMMERS from 2022!

Stephen Fairley

Chariots of fire is some movie. I hope it wins the poll.

MikeLL

How funny is it that Walk, Don't Run is in an Olympics poll?? Cary Grant's last screen performance, even I, a huge Cary Grant fan, might not vote for it.

Scott S.

I agree with you William, where is Miracle and Cool Runnings

Ty Kellington

Where is Miracle? (not in poll 2 either)

Silver Machine

C’mon, Downhill Racer! It’s got young Robert Redford! Let’s go!!!

Henry Graham

God, Chariots of Fire is stupendously boring. British cinema at its most insipid and pandering. No idea why it's launching into such a big lead on this poll. I guess it's the most well known? People fondly remember the music? Take away Vangelis and this movie has no pulse whatsoever. Downhill Racer is very good and Michael Ritchie is one of the most undervalued filmmakers of the New Hollywood era. And I never suspected I'd see a Kon Ichikawa film on one of these polls! Although Tokyo Olympiad is not his best.

Stick Figure Studios

Well, on this list it's gotta be the Best Picture-winning true story CHARIOTS OF FIRE, doesn't it? I'd also be fine with Clint Eastwood's RICHARD JEWELL (even though, like MUNICH on the other poll, it's not really an "Olympic movie," it's still worth seeing).

Dave

Cassie is going to put Miracle on the schedule without a poll

Jonathan F

Eddie The Eagle (admittedly a Winter Olympics film) is one to add

Stick Figure Studios

She's already planning to watch that one. That's why it's not on the poll.

Ty Kellington

Just saw the edit now. Good because I would have rioted in the streets.

Martin John

The great thing about the Olympics is that sometimes the live event is as dramatic as any movie. I'd pay good money to watch the Jessie Diggins/Kikkan Randall 2018 cross country race again

Michael Lynch

Nice. I was busy and didn’t read what she posted before I commented. I can’t wait to watch that one.

Chris Retzlaff

She needs to know who Paul Walter Hauser is....either I Tonya or Richard Jewell.

Above Average Dave

CHARIOTS OF FIRE is a true story (Cassie & Carly fave) and takes place 100 years ago at the 1924 Paris Olympics. I agree with others though, RICHARD JEWELL is a pretty stark cautionary tale, and, sadly SOP for a lot of high profile FBI investigations.

Matt Rose

A lot of people give CHARIOTS OF FIRE a lot of flack for winning best picture in 1981 and beating RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and REDS (other nominees included ON GOLDEN POND and ATLANTIC CITY), but it's really a fantastic film. There's some speculation that RAIDERS and REDS 'split the vote' and allowed COF to win as a longshot but I kinda doubt that...it stands on its own. I'd still have given best picture to RAIDERS but COF is a deserving winner.

Alex Gorell

Chariots of fire is the obvious choice.

Cliff Endicott

"Chariots of Fire". Drink lots of coffee before you watch, because it is a veritable cure for insomnia.

Joel Cagle

Ok i know this is a little obscure but Disney's the world's Greatest Athlete with Jan Michael Vincent and Tim Conway and the incomparable John Amos was a FANTASTIC movie! Not technically an Olympic movie but they mention the Olympic 🤣🤣🤣

thansen

I agree. The only scene I liked was the one it was most famous for, the run on the beach with the Vangelis theme. The rest of the movie was really disappointing.

Brian Lowery

We hear the words “cancel culture” so much these days. The idea of someone saying or doing something that gets them ostracized from society and unable to reintegrate. It’s misused about 99% of the time. Most celebrities and public figures that have been “cancelled” are still gainfully employed in some way. Sure, maybe their income was reduced, but they can still make a good living. Richard Jewell was one of those few people that was actually cancelled. He didn’t say anything to deserve it, and he did nothing to deserve it. He should’ve been heralded as a hero along the lines of Sully, but instead was tarred and feathered by a zealous news media, unscrupulous investigators, and an apathetic public.

thansen

Downhill Racer is easily my favorite of those.

Just Plain Bob

Chariots of Fire is one of the most overrated movies ever. My parents decided that the family needed a little “culture” and dragged me and my brothers to the theater to see it. We decided to give it a chance and sat in the front row, figuring that might liven things up a little. When I awoke a couple of hours later, I saw that my brothers had also nodded off (our folks sat mid-theater and weren’t within easy view). When we compared notes on the drive home, it turned out that all five of us slept thru virtually the entire movie. My folks never tried to foist “culture” on us again.

Christopher Smith

For a funny one to toss in, The Bronze with Bernadette from Big Bang and Sebastian Stan the Winter Soldier.

OddThomas

Chariots of Fire: great score by Vangelis. That's about it, lbh

David Freese

I think Chariots of Fire shouldn’t be on the poll because it would have been seen eventually on its own. But Richard Jewel should be here because of the content.

David Freese

But it would have been watched on its own. But hey it’s just a poll so I’ll watch anything with Cassie!

Just Plain Bob

His treatment was unforgivable. It’s an incredible story and hard to believe the level of injustice he faced. Great movie and well directed by Clint Eastwood.

LDC7080

Chariots of fire has that iconic piece of music buts imho that’s about. It’s like asking someone to watch Flash Gordon because Queen did the soundtrack

Just Plain Bob

I and my entire family (5 of us) literally fell asleep for almost the entire movie when we went to see it. Soooooooo boring.

thansen

I sure hope that wins. But doesn't look promising. I won't sit through Chariots of Fire again.

T.L.A

Chariots all day and twice on Sunday, unless your Liddell and then not on Sunday!

Peter Dillard

I was competing in sports with Chariots of Fire came out and it supplied tremendous motivation.

Just Plain Bob

In my former career (investigating public corruption), I had occasion to work with the FBI a half dozen times. My experience was that, once they’ve made up their minds about something, they’re not gonna let something as inconsequential as evidence change it.

Just Plain Bob

Chariots of Fire is the most boring film I’ve ever seen. It literally put my entire family to sleep when we went to watch it.

T.L.A

So you have not seen it? I prefer calling it "history".

Just Plain Bob

Saw enough to put me to sleep. Sooooooooo boring. As for history, other films on these lists, such as “Without Limits”, “Richard Jewell” and “Munich” are also based on history. They’re just not boring like Chariots.

WestBound

Richard jewel is a great movie but is it really an Olympic movie 🤔

Above Average Dave

I heard this from several state level investigators I have met over the years, as well as state police detectives. I was also told they are not above planting evidence to substantiate their claims.

Ria Grix

Well that was an easy poll. First one on the list was an automatic YES!

Just Plain Bob

In an investigation we conducted of the organized crime unit of a major city, we found evidence that they used fictitious informants to justify warrants on known crack dens, with the officers presumably pocketing the money intended for the informants. We turned a trunk full of evidence over to the FBI (a Crown Vic trunk, so not small) at the end of the investigation. For months we heard nothing back. When my boss finally got tired of waiting and contacted the Agent in Charge, he was told that they had lost the evidence and no indictments would be forthcoming. We belatedly realized the FBI ran a joint drug task force with the police department and would’ve seen many of their drug arrests thrown out of court if it came out that the informants were fake. To this day (20+ years later), I absolutely believe they deliberately destroyed that evidence. I used to routinely work with local law enforcement and with our state’s bureau of investigation. I never heard any of them say anything positive about their interactions with the FBI.

Jason Rogers

Cassie you will love the theme music. It still holds up 40 plus years later

mikethemotormouth

I was freaking out when I couldn't vote for Miracle then I read a little more thoroughly 😔

Roger Banks

I wish “Boys in the Boat” and “Chariots of Fire” had been in two separate polls.

Roger Banks

Just don’t confuse “Quest for Fire” with “Chariots of Fire”. Two totally different movies. 😜

Clay F

Looks like they both will make the final poll for YT

Mac61

The second photo is Catriona Le May Doan and Susan Auch who won gold and silver in the 500m speed skating at the 1998 Nagano Olympics

Mike Carey

You're killing me by putting Chariots of Fire in the same poll as Without Limits!! Hopefully you find a way somehow to watch both!

Mac61

The first photo is Team Canada, Barcelona 1992

Alex Ch

Shoutout to my “Tokyo Olympiad” people.

Lamar Savage

It'll never win a poll, but trust this old man - You would LOVE Walk, Don't Run!

Chris Thom

No idea what that is but I bet it's a trip.

Chris Thom

Chariots of Fire if for no other reason that classic, iconic music. You'll be hearing it in your head for the rest of your life...if it's not already lodged in your consciousness.

Chris Thom

Is 'Boat' any good? That's really new isn't it?

Canadianant

I went with Richard Jewell. Excellent performance.

Roger Banks

Yeah, it is pretty good.

Silver Machine

Yeah, I’ll probably just watch the YT edit of that one.

Neil

A couple of things here, first I'd like to predict that if and when Cassie watches Chariots of Fire one of the first reactions will be "Oh, I know this music" . Also, giving no spoilers of course, anyone know the connections to two of Cassie's favourite discoveries from the channel? The Lord of the Rings and Star Trek Next Gen? There are two seperate connections. No spoilers of course. Just wonder who knows them, I didn't until recently.

Brian McGovern

Isn't that George Clooney's most recent directorial effort?

Brian McGovern

Like all good ice hockey fans, hey?😄

Paul Cox

That's an amazing story, since Chariots wasn't even released until 1981.

Carol Rocha

Yesssss, Chariots of Fire!!

Clay F

Still early, but looks like the 6 winners selected for the final poll on YT will be: Munich Chariots of Fire Richard Jewell I, Tonya Eddie the Eagle Boys in the Boat I have no idea which of those six the YT voters would select as the ultimate winner for the reaction. Maybe Munich or Chariots of Fire. If not, I think could be I, Tonya (2017), Richard Jewell (2019), or The Boys in the Boat (2023).

Clay F

I like “Quest for Fire” I have nostalgia with that movie

Paul Cox

A word about 'Richard Jewell:' it was pretty slimy of the filmmakers to make up an unethical and reckless personality for the reporter Kathy Scruggs knowing she was no longer alive to defend herself. Thankfully, a lot of her colleagues came to her defense around the time of the film's release, but so many years later people will just watch the film and not know any different.

Clay F

If Chariot doesn't win the YT poll, she might react to Chariot anyway at some point.

Clay F

Looks like it will be in the final poll for YT

Clay F

Yep, Chariots of Fire is "decidedly slower and less limber than the Olympic runners at the center of its story."

Bill Maurer

Chariots of Fire. Well, because how can you have an Olympic Movie poll WITHOUT Chariots of Fire?

Chris Thom

I think it was All the Presidents Men that won over Star Wars. But not sure. Or was it Rocky? Totally blanking.

Andy Bodkin

How is miracle 2004 not on this list?

Paul Cox

She's planning to watch it anyway. No need to poll it.

Andy Bodkin

Oh cool! ignore my comment hahaha

Clay F

In this poll 1 of 2, I voted Without Limits (1998), Tokyo Olympiad (1965), and Richard Jewell (2019). I think Downhill Racer (1969) and The Boys in the Boat (2023) might be good. Not sure about Walk Don't Run (1966). I would welcome a reaction to the good and slow Chariots of Fire (1981).

YodatheHobbit

Haha, only Olympic movie I think I've seen is Cool Runnings and only other one I think I've heard of but not watched is Chariots of Fire. Guess I know which I'm voting for. Edit: Oh, never mind other poll has some I'm familiar with. Also, with blurry eyesight I thought those ladies were biting into cookies.🥴

Stick Figure Studios

It was an unfortunate decision. A misstep in an otherwise very good movie.

Just Plain Bob

And that may well have been the problem. I fully intend to rewatch it when Cassie does her full reaction (clearly it’s gonna win). I’m hoping that, after forty plus years, I like it more on second viewing. Although it gives me pause that my folks also found it boring.

thansen

Yes. Watch the first ten minutes of Chariots of Fire for the music. It's way downhill from there. I cannot believe that film won Best Picture.

thansen

Sadly, that is true.

Chris Thom

Whoops...actually it was Annie Hall. Love Star Wars, but that one is also a classic.

thansen

Great music, awesome, some of the best. The movie is terrible, though.

Scott Macaulay

Ugh You're right. I confused it with Raiders. I stand by the story. I'm changing my post. The point of the joke is there's a bitter little boy inside me still. Ask any woman that knows me, they'll confirm. lol

Robert Durant

I sure hope so, I've been waiting so long for them to experience that movie.

Dan M

Why am I not surprised that Chariots of Fire is running away with this poll. It is, after all, the gold standard of Olympic themed movies. And it should make for an eventful reaction. All puns intended.

Stick Figure Studios

It certainly takes a bit more patience than the typical Hollywood product, but for those who are open to it, it's very rewarding.

Brian Lowery

The people that voted for Chariots of Fire are very considerate. They must really want Cassie to get some good sleep.

Stick Figure Studios

I love RAIDERS and have ever since I was 6. It is one of my all-time favorite films. Having said that, CHARIOTS OF FIRE is definitely the deeper movie, so I get why it won. It's like when E.T. (another favorite of mine) lost best picture to GANDHI (yet another movie I like). I can love and appreciate both in their own unique ways. I don't have to boycott one out of loyalty to the other.

Stick Figure Studios

Never thought I'd see CHARIOTS OF FIRE likened to FLASH GORDON.

Stick Figure Studios

It's like when GANDHI beat E.T. I love both films, but E.T. would be my personal pick. Still, I get why GANDHI won.

LDC7080

My badly made point I think from my point of view is that they are both famous for the music rather than the riveting Movie

dominantblaze

Manhunt: Deadly Games (season 2 of Manhunt) which aired in 2020 told the same story in more detail (well obviously, they had 10 episodes of TV to do it). While they didn't go easy on Kathy Scruggs in that one either, IIRC it was a bit more balanced portrayal of her and didn't go as overboard as the movie. They also went into a lot more detail on the investigation of the case which the movie just skips over, so if the story interests you I can highly recommend the series.

crazyivan

Downhill Racer (Gene Hackman and Robert Redford) is a good movie and Walk Don't Run is the last movie Cary Grant was in (comedy set at the Tokyo Olympics, but not really an 'olympics' movie). Without Limits is a GREAT MOVIE - and since Tom Cruise was one of the producers, it'll probably be watched.

Matt Rose

COF is fantastic.

Matt Rose

GANDHI is fantastic, though. Of the nominees, it was the clear winner in my opinion.

Ben Schwartz

yeah... without Cool Runnings, this poll is invalid!

Matt Rose

To each their own. I find it perfectly enthralling.

Cliff Endicott

Fair enough - all movies are subjective. But for me, it was watching paint dry to a nice score.

Larry Darrell

Thank You, Cassie, for including some Classic Films for the poll. :-)

Stick Figure Studios

Ah. Well, I highly recommend doing some research on the history of both films sometime then. You might find they're famous for much more than just their music.

Scott Macaulay

I was 10, so depth was not on my mind. Plus, who watches Chariots 100 times? I've probably seen Raiders more than that

Brian

Write in for Cool Runnings

Jaret Morlan

If RICHARD JEWELL and MUNICH are the top two, it will definitely shift what I think was the intent of this particular theme. Both are utterly void of athleticism, traded for violence and politics.

Dean Holt

Even though I don’t think it will get top 3, I really hope Eddie the Eagle does make it as it’s a great story and is kinda like Cool Runnings but just about a Ski Jumping

Dean Holt

Yeah me too Sam Rockwell is just serious underrated as an actor. But Kathy Bates is always amazing and the guy who played Richard (sorry I’ve forgotten is name) was great too.

Stick Figure Studios

The latter she's already seen and the former she's already planning to watch later this month anyway.

Stick Figure Studios

As she states into message, she's already planning to watch that movie this month, so she didn't want to include it in the poll.

Stick Figure Studios

Yeah, I've also seen RAIDERS over 100 times. It's teriffic cinematic comfort food. CHARIOTS is just not that kind of movie. It's more about challenging, inspiring and moving than it is providing just rip roaring entertainment. Both have their place, of course, but the Academy tends to favor one kind of film over another.

Stick Figure Studios

GANDHI is fantastic, but it is more the "kind" of movie that wins Oscars. while E.T. (even though I think it is just as good as GANDHI and arguably better) is just not.

Canadianant

The actor is Paul Walter Hauser. He was fantastic.

Joe M

For this poll, I would love to see Richard Jewell win, but I would be fine with Chariots of Fire taking it. As long as RJ gets a watch as the second place winner.

T.L.A

I have only seen it about 20 times

Bagofsoup

I’m still looking for cool runnings on the list. Unless Cassie or Carly had already seen it growing up or already on the channel. Feel the rhythm, feel the ride…

Dave

Look in the poll description from Cassie

Dave

Read Cassie's description of the poll.

SRSChaos

She says in the description she is already planning on watching it.

John Liebling

Please honor the city and not anything to do with Paris Hilton...Just a small yoke...as many of you would probably say...Yes, a very small joke.

David Patterson

There's nothing like a good joke... And that was nothing like a good joke!

John Liebling

Thank you, David, I appreciate that.
